    Hi G.S. I was wondering why didn't you add a capacitor parallel to secondary to resonate with secondary inductance at the same resonance frequency of primary? That would send your secondary voltage through the roof at much smaller primary voltages. So ideally you would need less input power to get the arc. You could then increase the primary number of turns and reduce the primary capacitance for the same frequency. That would likely help with primary/secondary coupling as well, hopefully increasing the efficiency. Maybe I'm missing something. Great work as usual!

    To create bigger arc with less current, you should use a wire made of many thinner wires. This should lower the skin effect, and higher the density of magnetic fields, so the transformer would be more efficient. I did it, and my lighter creates over 5mm arcs with only 1A at the input.

    I presume the reason for the second transformer not having a feedback coil was because the inverter was run by PWM produced by a microcontroller regulated by feedback of the output. The Royer oscillator isn't routinely used nowadays.

    Hello, I have successfully built an electric light thanks to the tutorials from GreatScott! and some videos from the channel on youtube. Because I use secondhand components from other electronic devices, so in my project I use transistor TIP41C, but the problem is heat transistor and require heatsink, of course heatsink require space and affect the shape of lighter. I tried to use K1457 mosfet former power supplay CPU, but it did not work. So how is the solution? Should I use IRFZ44?

  • @GpanosXP

    Great Video !! just 1 quick question:
    Why does the mosfet turn off; i.e. why does its gate's voltage fall ?
    All I can think of is that the primary windings act as an auto-transformer.
    Anyone knows?

    • @whatever2144
      @whatever2144 7 лет назад

      The caps in the primary and the coil form an LC tank circuit that produces the sine wave on the scope.From there the diodes conduct to turn the mosfet off.
      Look up ZVS driver or Mazilli driver

Recommend to build it on a PCB because zenzer diodes burns easily. If circuit does not oscillate or mosfet heats up badly, change gate resistor values depending on input valtage. Must use schottky diodes for Better gate discharge
