Ryab should stop thinking about gadgets strictly as "losing equipment", considering many of the gadgets are strictly better or at least just as good as their equipment counterpart since they work for free. You can turn meh equipment into very strong gadgets, which you can set up for very strong combos on specific fights. Agree with NL, the inventor is unfun. You don't get to build your run, you have to mitigate losing your equipment every battle. The results aren't even random so you don't get any wild, unpredictable outcomes. This leads to an unsatisfying viewing experience as well.
A better method is similar to the episode where each equipment has a number of uses before it's destroyed. i feel that the inventor should allow you to choose whether or not you want to swap your equipment for a gadget. that in itself results in sufficient opportunities for strategic play
@@cptKamina i agree that it probably would, but there has to be another solution to it than forcing the player to give up any strategy surrounding the immediately playable equipment.
@@PrettierNPastel I never said there wasn't, though I feel that said strategy detracts the fun from building momentum in a game designed to progress you through levels
The inventor is by far my fave character. Everyone else ends up with more or less the same equipment for 40 minutes, and the inventor forces you to use more than the starting equipment and the stuff you get via level-up (which is kinda all you use with other characters).
Not to mention that whatever you do turn into a gadget is always pretty overpowered, not needing a die. My favorite character would always be the jester though
the inventor seems more fun as i'm learning new stuff in the comments, need to play her more. i agree with the changing setups, finding a great loadout on floor 2 is ez win but also boring when every fight plays the same
That would undermine the whole reason Inventor exists (as a separate class from Warrior). The whole idea is to have a constantly changing set-up where you not only try to build a run, but also *protect* a run. When NL looks at this challenge and thinks "inventor forces me to lose equipment that I love & it feels bad", he's missing the entire point and as a result he's misplaying the unique equipment management part of the Inventor. (Related: When NL thinks that "scrap metal is bad, because other equipment are strictly better anyway", he's (again) demonstrating that he does not really understand the class & its unique challenge.)
@@BCGpp he's also missing the point of how strong the gagdets are. if you take a random gadget, it'll probably be better than most equipment especially considering they're free every turn.
Hm, I don't understand NL's view on the Inventor, since he often uses and appreciates randomizing elements in Isaac to screw with his run. But maybe I shouldn't be comparing those two games
In Isaac tho the items aren't the game, there is a limit to how you can play sure, but you can still play bar very rare combos. In this game the equitment is the game
I agree w the comment about how items are way more game-defining in Dicey compared to Isaac, but I think another big thing is that in Isaac, there's still some control to its zane. You're very rarely forced to change, the game presents you with an item or reroll room and you can choose to take it or not. Curse of the blind and some other factors (like the current status of the run) can affect that ofc, but it still feels more like a conscious decision imo. With the inventor, the run is _constantly_ in flux, whether he wants it to be or not. I wouldn't be surprised if he got frustrated after a couple of games if he played an Isaac character that was forced to reroll every few rooms.
Have you ever thought about making the occasional produced video?
