  • In this episode of nostalgia, I cover the Nokia XL, one of many Android power Nokia smartphones released back in 2014! Yes, this is an android powered smartphone from Nokia during their Lumia era. It was technically running on the Android Open Source Platform, Android 4.1.2 Jellybean, with Nokia X software platform user interface which is a combination of Windows Phone, MeeGo and Asha OS into one. The video talks about the software and hardware of the Nokia XL as well as its key features.
    00:00 - Introduction
    00:38 - Hardware
    02:11 - Software
04:20 - Why did this exist?

This brought back memories as Nokia XL was my first Android device (or smartphone for that matter). It had it quirks and challenges including no Google services and a weird issue where the contacts disappeared if the phone was restarted/powered off. Still it had a surprisingly good camera (although a bit slow) and in general was a solid device despite the issues.

I'm proud that I was using this device for long. An amazing smartphone. The best combination!
I added the Google services and tried some unofficial roms, but it needed more memory to use it more longer
It's pity that it was stoped and the X2 was not available everywhere.
I think it was a revolt 😁 from Nokians that known the future is for Android devices, and with the success, Microsoft stopped the experience to don't compete wp

Microsoft is unbelievably slow in developing the WP platform itself , it's actually interesting and has potential, but lack a clear vision on how to get people to use the platform

@@silentreader77 yes and the biggest problem is that before the 10 version, WP was incomplete or bad designed (keyboard, multitasking, copy paste...). Yes the tiles was good but not the most important ... And of course less apps... But with the Os of the project X was perfect : well designed, unlimited apps, smooth... but they killed it 😖

Although I loved the Nokia's design & was also nokia fan back then, we ended up buying the Samsung as it had google play services. I love that era of nokia

Back in the day, the story of Nokia was rather complicated and uncertain, since 2010 Nokia still refused to use Android and still wanted to fight with it. In 2014 was pretty much late in the game and all other phones had already lost competition against Apple and Google. They basically tried every possible way to catch up without jumping with Android from Google, while Samsung doesn't go too far with any of companies and tried out all markets (including Windows), cut off their own Bada and later go with full Android (wise choice). Nokia adopted a lot of similarities from Windows in all of OSes they have on hands and try to be a 'unique' phone but still failed. My mother was loyal with Nokia at the time and she bought this phone. It's not as good as I thought but it doesn't last so long in software longevity and I eventually upgraded it to Android 4.4 with Android 5 skin. It was so durable, by the way, lasted until 2017, 4 years of lifespan.
For now Nokia is just another Android phone (although I hope it's just that since it could help Nokia) plus not a Finland phone anymore. Maybe the uniqueness can be cool but for sure it doesn't help the brand and die out because few people really want it.

Then nokia released this which were able to run some Android apps and games. That time I love nokia because of their design and build quality. But because of their os nokia lost their customers and today's nokia is 🤮 their series 40 os and build quality both are garbage.
Your last line 5:11 that time using different os and devices were really fun and using Smartphone feels like which I don't know how to describe it in words. But today's smartphone is so boring. Miss those beautiful days when smartphone was really fun🥺🥺🥺

Used it for 3 years before it got stolen. Yet I only bought it for 3000php, convert it yourself. Phones were really fun that time. No case.

I wish they'd bring back those version phones with windows. I absolutely loved my Lumia 1520 I still have it. I had it working for 6 years. And I love the vibrant colours. My best friend got the cannery yellow and I got radiant white. I don't know why I got white I should have gotten the yellow.

Me too. Also, did you see the red 1520? It was beautiful

@@AbdullaZaki yes I did, that one was only released in certain countries. Australia only got the white, black and cannery yellow.. my fav colour is red so if they'd released it I would have gotten that one.

This was a huge nail in Nokia's coffin.

Unfortunately Microsoft saw it as their investment running away from them.
