Thank you for introducing us to the Simple Citations book. I have received my copy and enjoyed it very much. I now use it to cite all the data that I put in my tree correctly.
Wonderful help I needed. Thank you. I have tried to get documents and photos from my tree at Ancestry with no luck. I no longer have a paying account there and the paywall stops me every time. I downloaded my tree to Rootsmagic and found a picture I wanted and clicked on the file to it, now in a folder on my computer. I did have to search down the folder to the number Ancestry gives to photos and documents instead of the person each should be linked to. But I now have a way to all those records! Thank you again. Best, Jan
You appear to have a wealth of experience with genealogy software packages. I’ve invested hundreds into my heritage. Do you know if it’s possible to get a printout or book if my family tree in any type of format? Or do I need to merge MH with another genealogy database? (Even though I reluctantly spent $$$, I’ve no idea how this all works but would like to somehow chart what I have, and correct some entries) thanks for your help and direction.
Whilst I presented this video and a previous one on My Heritage restrictions I only use the online world like a library. My primary focus was always in desktop computer programs firstly as I want complete control and the extra powers they afford me. I search online services and always download the source images to support my research. Most computer software products provide many more options, utilities, book and reporting options which I have complete control over. If your tree is solely on My Heritage and you are considering using desktop software then I would research which one suits you best. Importantly I would download all the images which support your research to your computer and also your tree. I demonstrated in a previous video how Family Tree Builder by My Heritage was the best tool for this but it does not download source documentation unless it is attached to a persons profile, check out the video.
Newbie here, so please forgive me if this is a dumb question. I don't understand how you will have any changes to show between RootsMagic and Ancestry if you have just downloaded RootsMagic, and don't have an existing RootsMagic file with any data in it.
Hi, I hope you get this . I have followed this video and attempted to do it . I got it all onto roots magic but only some of the tree is going onto family historian and making some one else the root person, I am not on the tree at all. What have I done wrong
Hi, the default root person is the person with record number 1 . Don't fuss about that asi am not Rec 1 in my large file. In any program you can change the root person usually under the Edit menu. It's important to do as relationships are calculated on the root person but you can change it anytime. The person with record number 1 will remain the same, that person would generally be the first person you ever entered. Hope this helps.
By default the root person is the one with Record ID of 1. This can be changed in program, for example I am not Record 1 in my file. Sometimes this can change with importing and exporting so not sure how it happened. I never allow my Record Numbers to be changed as I o0ften use them for notes and pointers to possible family links.
