Literally so sweet. Collectors and appreciators alike have something special in common that Howard himself shared as well!
I was lucky enough to meet him in the early 1990s at his home. I own two small Finster paintings.
I met the reverend Finster when he visited Lehigh University many years ago. He gave a talk on art and faith. We were offered plywood cutouts and paint to create our own "Finster" artwork after his talk. He happily autographed our creations offering comment on them as well. Still have my painted angel with his autograph. Good man.
Outsider art is very valuable now, and Howard was one of the originals. I love this piece.

This is Dead Art and will never be remembered in history.
Being from Summerville GA. I've been to Paradise Gardens. Lots of times. It's really a very unique place to go and see. Also my family on both sides ( moms and dads ) were born and raised in Summerville. Most of my family still lives over there. My dad used to work for Mr. Howard before I was born. My dad said that he was a really nice guy.

I am an antique .
Lot of condescending amateur art critics in these comments who have no clue what outsider art is about. Yeah it may look childish or simple, but these are created by people who are neurodivergent and who have an entirely different worldview to the majority of people. It's interesting seeing how people who might struggle communicating their thoughts with others normally are able to express themselves through other means in ways many people wouldn't even think of.

It's ugly and creepy Dead Art. To the last, I grapple with thee... from hell's heart, I stab at thee! For hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee! I despise this painting with every part of me.
5 Year old painted?
I know art is subjective blah blah blah. But it never ceases to amaze me how something that looks indistinguishable from something done by an 11yr old can be considered important or valuable or whatever else because of who did it.
This is Dead Art and is destined to go down in value, because herd animals invariably move from pasture to pasture. Do you think this will hang in an art museum in the year 2525? No. Why? Because it's indistinguishable from something done by a $#&*^(*# eleven year old.
Did not make art until much later in his life, after he had a vision of paint on his finger.
It is not a painting - it is a wooden box sculptural construction- wood and plexiglass

For comparison, $1100 invested in 1984 in a S&P 500 index fund with dividends reinvested would be worth about $67K today.

In some ways, but that doesn't mean this painting isn't terrible. It is terrible. It's more correct to say that some people can appreciate good art, and others buy crap like this. Katy Perry might be popular, but it's not good music.

It's horrible. I know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but, come on. I dare anyone who reads this to tell me it doesn't look like it was painted by an eight year old. I honestly think I could do something similar or better in my garage in a weekend. All I can say is that he's better than Jackson Pollak.
This is a terrible painting... absolutely! But I think you're under-appreciating Jackson Pollock (this painting is far worse to look at -- at least Pollocks aren't creepy).
