I lived one block west of the Metropolitan Ave station. It reopened in the late 50's for a short time. In 1959 we sled down off it that winter and the 3rd rail was still hot. The So Montauk branch ran down behind HJ Heinz where my Mother worked. I hopped my first and only ( well maybe 3-4 times) freight all the way to Richmond Hill Station. Always wanted to know where those trains went.
I have a story about that wreck by Howard Beach which ended the line.

The station on the Atlantic Branch was Woodhaven. The station on the Rockaway Beach Branch was Woodhaven Junction.

Great video. I'm looking on Google Street view, and on the south side of Atlantic Avenue just west of the abandoned tracks there is a boarded up brick structure that looks like it may have been a power substation for the branch (40°41'21.2"N 73°50'40.3"W). Any ideas if that's what it was?

They should rebuild it and put a shuttle or something there

That's a great video of the Rockaway Beach LIRR. It's same that this line is'nt use to this day. It would be much better then Q-53/Q-52 S.B.S. that we have now.

3:10 - Is this a case of the bridge beams being left in place to hold up the abutment/retaining walls?

I was unaware there was a switch at Atlantic Avenue, I understood that there was a transfer where passengers could get off at Woodhaven Junction, walk down several flights of stairs and then catch an Atlantic line train. Do you have any photos or other references that RBB trains could switch over to the Atlantic Branch?
Also, it is a complete crime that neither the MTA nor the City DoT want to take any steps to reactivate the Branch, especially when they plan to meddle with Express and local bus services.

There was a connection between the two branches that was used by trains going between Atlantic Terminal and Rockaway Park. In 1955 the interlocking was abandoned and the tunnel portal sealed up. The former connecting ramp is used by Logan Bus Company to park school buses.

You may need to export your video to 30 fps.
It looks like you did your shots at 30 fps but exported at 24 fps, resulting in stuttering when you pan.

Some people are hoping the abandoned line becomes a Queens equivalent of Manhattan's High Line park.

Not at all. We want the line to be brought back into service! It will make a great connection into midtown Manhattan.

It'll be interesting to see this narrator's cadence and enunciation develop over the next couple of years, from choppy and childlike (where "ech SYL-ble gts th SAM shrt time slic") to something more steadily paced and intelligible (where "each WORD and PHRASE gets its due").
