    Thanks for this video, it really helped me. Although I liked the Kross 2's sound, I ended up buying a Juno DS 61 instead because of the latter's dedicated split and dual buttons. Meanwhile on the Kross 2 I'd have to go into the menu interfaces and navigate more than one page deep for the same functions. Keep up your good work!

    Which one has the best keybed? The sounds are a crapshoot they both sound wonderful. Don’t care about the sequencers. I have MPC and Maschine for that.

    The real test of pianos come when you play three note chords at the lower half of the keyboard. High notes on piano sound good in almost all the models. Considering the lower notes, which piano feels good? Korg or Roland?

      I agree totally. Mid range, middle C with full chords is a good test

    Zdecydowanie Roland. Mam ten instrument od pół roku. . Chociaż po odpakowaniu i pierwszym kontakcie z klawiaturą wydaje się dla pianisty typową kayboardowa, po 5 min grania uznałem, że jest po prostu świetna . Naprawdę kompromis pomiędzy ciężką hammer action a typową kayboardowka, w sam raz. Fajne smyki, lead, pady. Za te pieniądze, bez konkurencji !!!

    THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO COMPARE SO I CAN PURCHASE WISELY. GENERALLY I PREFER THE ROLAND EXCEPT THAT (AS A VIOLINIST). I BELIEVE THE KORG HAS LESS ELECTRONIC SOUNDING STRING PATCHES. BECAUSE THEY HAVE LESS GAIN AND LESS ATTACK AND SOUND MORE NATURAL, IN MY OPINION.

    I recently purchased the Korg Kross 2 88 key. Played a few Rolands (I like Roland keyboards had one since 1991), but considering that Korg instruments are much cheaper but do as much as the Roland does, have full sized keys (most Roland keys are shorter than a normal piano), I'm pretty sure that this workstation is adequate for my needs but what is lacking in all modern piano action keyboards is keybeds that have a really fast repetition rate on one note. I tried everything and they all are slow (some pianos don't repeat well either).

    Korg is close to Yamaha kind of piano sound. Which i prefer. (warmer sound)
    Used a roland arranger with piano sounds unsatisfactory.
    Roland has more of brighter tones.
    Korg has more depth to the tone especially in lower end.

    OK, a question for gigging musicians: which one of these, or perhaps a closely matched and priced competitor, would prove to be most useful on stage? I think I would be happy with the sound of either one; what about play-ability, changing bank/registers, on the fly adjustments, splits and layers and switching thereof, etc. Thanks for any useful info anyone can provide!
    Oh, and can I run my bass guitar through any of them? On several songs I swap back and forth, using the Right split and output for keys bass. Tone and volume I can match really well with my Casio, each going to the amp separately, but it would be nice to take both through the same effects chain.

    Classic Piano is not the main advantage of the Korg Kross: it has wonderfull Electric Piano and Organ (which are not awesome on the Roland)... But after all, it's just Preset sounds. These machines are synthesizer, up to you to create your own sounds... May be easily to do on the Roland... But very powerfull on the Korg !

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 6 лет назад

      The Juno's synth engine is even more complex and capable for programmers.

    • @FrancisMaxino
      @FrancisMaxino 6 лет назад

      Licinius Varrus I've looked at the manuals for both machines and the Kross has everything the Juno has. The Korg 'synth engine' consists of twin double oscillators (four in total) and is just as sophisticated and capable as the Roland, in fact the Kross 2 is closer to an FA in specifications.

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 6 лет назад

      @@FrancisMaxino Francis Maxino you can only layer samples in Kross' two oscillators or have them sound within specific velocity ranges, while the Juno has four independently tweakable oscillators with FM mod in addition to tweakable velocity ranges just to begin pointing out the many differences - the Juno-DS Parameter Guide makes it obvious that the Kross does not have the same capabilities
      beyond that, the Kross' other capabilities, like multiple arps and a dedicated drum track independent of everything else whose configurations can be saved per patch, does give it more in common with pricier workstations than the Juno

    I'm with the other commenter on this: this is essentially personal flavor. However something seems to be sealing the deal for me, with is the fact that the Roland Juno DS also exists in 76 format, not just 61 or 88 like the Korg Kross. That's literally it. I don't really care much for piano sounds and the synth/string stuff in the Korg sounds so much better in my ear, not to mention more tools for sound designing, but not only I cannot afford such a high price right now for the Kross 2 88 version... I just wouldn't use the extra keys most of the time and it'd be a hindrance in live situations.
    Guess I'll play around with the Roland and then get a Korg Nautilus if I have the chance some day.

    I think the Kross has many more features but it seems to lack the expression of the DS, especially evident in piano sounds. When playing sharply (sorry I don't know the correct musical expression) they sound identical. But when played softly the Kross barely changes, whereas the DS plays a much softer note, allowing for much more expression while playing.
    So I prefer the sounds on the DS but would prefer to own the Kross for the sequencer. If you don't need a sequencer then go for the DS, which is exactly what it's meant to be - a performance keyboard. If you want sequencing and editing I think the Kross is the best option. If you want to play live then the DS is best. They're two different types of synth, meant for very different uses and they both excel at what they're meant for. The user must decide what their needs are before judging these two amazing machines.

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 6 лет назад

      Expressiveness depends on keyboard curves and programming of the patches. Juno-DS and Kross2 are both equally capable of being expressive.

    • @bluerabbit7245
      @bluerabbit7245 6 лет назад

      @@Jason75913 I had the chance to play the Juno DS last week and I already own the Kross. The difference in piano sounds is night and day. I can play with a fair bit of expression on the Juno but barely any in the Kross. Have you played piano on the Kross? If you have you'll know what I mean. I'm not knocking the Kross. I love mine, it's great for pads & arpeggios and sequencing but if you only want to play piano I'd avoid it. Each keyboard has its own strengths and would be great for some situations but not good for others. Personally I always use my Fantom X8 for piano, it has the most beautiful grand piano I've ever heard. I play a baby grand sometimes at work and have to say although it sounds beautiful I think the keys on the X8 feel nicer!

    Interesting, on the highest notes (1:10 onwards) I can hear some noisy 'gated reverb'-like effect on the Korg. I wonder if it's Korg's reverb or is it baked in the sample itself. I'm not sure how noticeable this would be in the real world scenario but it's possible that it's one of those cases when once you've heard something, you'll never unhear it again. Also, Korg seems to have more panning range between lower and upper octaves, sort of like if you were listening from inside the piano which to me sounds a bit unnatural. Having said that all, I preferred the tone of the Korg more than that of the Roland because of elevated, more metallic, upper-mids on the latter which I guess can quickly get annoying. But again, I usually like uprights and soft pianos most of all :)
    Also, great choice of music to demo the keyboards! I'm so tired of the usual rock'n'roll and boogie-woogie demos with performers bashing on the keys!

    • @CouyosenciaX

      The gated reverb effect maybe is because the Kross piano sound has damper resonance samples, while the Juno DS doesn't have it.

      Fernando Morales i would definitely go for the used juno ds. the Kross 2 and the juno ds are going neck to neck and I prefer the kross 2 but if you're getting the ds used, get the ds. Overall, my pick would be the Kross 2 because the real time control and music production capability of kross 2 is very good

    Hey there,asking if you can do some review also for roland xps30..

    • @jnrhtb
      @jnrhtb 11 месяцев назад

      Roland xps 30 is more or less just like juno DS. They seem alike. If you want to produce traditional music, I recomnend xps30. But if you want to produce global/modern music, I recommend Juno DS.

    I am a proud owner of a Juno DS61. But Unfortunately I cannot get that beautiful sound of yours. Well I think I should practise more.

      @@muzykujkropkacom it seems that the Roland DS Stereo is much better distributed, in Kross the sound always seems Mono, this separation only became clearer in Kross in timbre electric pianos with tremolo, is Kross connected in L / R?

    Roland is a Monster since the beginning lol... I still have the Juno 6 and it works like a dream and I bought mine in the late 80s it was like 1299 then or 899 something like that I love the effects on it so I kept it even since and I still use it with my other keyboards

    The ds has the richer sounds but the keybeds are smaller than the kross.

    For me 2 piano patches from my Roland EM-30(arranger from the 90s) sounds better that the whole bunch of pianos of my 2018 Kross 2.... just the pianos

    Gosto demais dessas comparações! Me tira uma dúvida, entre o Kong Kross1 e o xps30 da roland, qual é melhor em timbres e funcionalidades?
    Ou alguém que já testou os dois, poderia me dizer também. Desde já agradeço.

      Cara eu troquei meu ds pelo Kross 2 porque a sensibilidade das teclas dele é muito ruim, e também porque os timbres do Kross 2 são muito superiores, principalmente piano e Hammond. Não sei quanto ao Kross 1

    Thank you for making this
    I listened over and over and these are my conclusions: First impression was wrong. Then it started to clear up. MX resonates sweetly - this is especially aparent in the last segment of this shootout. Kross is different - big and close up but also empty, no sweet harmonies like in MX. I don't think Kross piano can sing quite like MX, the Kross is just too sterile. Nevertheless MX does let down in sound department somewhat, compared to its predecessors.

    You need to play more than just mp/mf dynamics. And please let the notes ring out longer before you overlap them with the other board.

      menos algunos sonidos electrónicos, algunos pianos eléctricos, y el secuenciador regular (cual el Juno ni tiene), más el Juno no graba audio sin una computadora mientras el Kross tiene una grabadora interno muy bueno, y sus ecualizadores paramétricos son más precisos, y el Juno no tiene secuenciador adicional del tipo Step cómo el Kross cual es extremadamente útil, y luego el Kross puede correr dos arpegiadores mientras el Juno solo tiene uno, y el Kross también puede procesar audio externo con sus efectos mientras el Juno no
