Well, this just tickles me to death! As a 69 yr old white, long time camper, born in Louisiana, but lived in 7 different states during my lifetime, both north and south, and now retired in Georgia, I often wondered, and lamented, thanks to my parents bringing us up with a diverse world view, why there weren't more black, and people of color campers. However, since Covid, I noticed more and more black families getting out and enjoying nature, and it pleases me to no end. This world is for everybody, and I love the way things are changing in the camping world to that end. I'm so thankful that this site appeared on my RUclips video feed to let me know that Black Folks Camp Too exists to promote the inclusivity aspect of the thing that I love most as a retiree. Thank you very much!

I am a 68 yr old black woman and bought an RV when I retired so that I could safely travel solo to visit the National Parks. It was tough at first because I knew absolutely nothing, and had not done much camping before. But 3 years later I’ve had some wonderful adventures and found that there was always someone around to help if I couldn’t figure something out. Thank you for this channel and your work to get more of us out there.

Alright so I recently found BFCT after watching an anime about camping that turned me on to it. My grandma used to send me camping as a kid to keep me out of trouble during summer, and I remember liking it. I'm happy there's an org to get more people that look like me outdoors. Taking my brother next time.

This was an amazing video. Nature is healing and here for everyone. As an African American woman I have been blessed to experience nature for more than 40 years. All of us need to experience the outdoors. You don't need to spend tons of money to enjoy the outdoors. Just go out , enjoy and breathe the outdoors.

You can start with the basics at Walmart small tent, sleeping bag and cushion to sleep on found out year's later to have a sleeping matt under the body. A cooler, frying pan. Make a check off list of thing's you think you will need. The thing is to get out there and camp and you can figure out what you need and don't need. A lot of camping gear can be bought at garage sale for cheap.

Start with RUclips videos. Try to find videos that will fit your interest and style of camping. After you get your feet wet with your starter package, I guarantee you will start to seek a minimal approach to the outdoors. I learned not to carry to much stuff " packing my fears" and a heavy load would take away from exploring a area properly because of being bogged down with weight. What I did is learn what a EDC pack is and load it with the 10c of survival. Oh and hike with a walking stick. Very helpful for many many reasons
      Good luck on your journey

My family has been camping for 40+ years.
I had that father who took the risks.
He actually converted a VW Bus into a camper.
    And today I still camp.

Grew up outdoors and been all over during my military career. This vast and amazing country is for black folks too. I encourage everyone to visit the national parks and take advantage of all the trails and outdoor activities. Not only is it therapeutic, but you learn some life skills to share with future generations. Don't let anyone stop you, this country is yours too, take advantage of it. Go outside.

Love the video. I started camping a couple of years ago, and it is my favorite thing to do. I was so excited the first time I lit a fire by myself. I take my dogs with me and they love it. I've had some really nice neighbors in the campgrounds. I was really nervous when I first started going because I didn't see anyone who looked like me, but I didn't let that stop me from going.

Maaaaaan I am soooo glad I came across this video brother! As an avid camper, you hit the nail on the head with this one. My father never took me camping but I’ve taken my kids camping to break the stigma. You also don’t see a huge presence of minorities in the overlanding space. I have a travel trailer but I prefer loading out my truck and hitting the off-road trails to find a secluded spot with friends! Thank you again brother! This video was needed!

I would love to be able to get to be out in the outdoors, but I’m in search of an RV but I have saved up so far $10.000 and I know that doesn’t get you much of anything these days. I found a few people that is selling their RV for 10 to 12,000, but they are in bad shape and it looked as they are trying to get rid off their junk. So I’m still searching and hoping I can run into someone that may have something that I can drive because I don’t have a pick to pull a trailer which, I found of quite a few I could afford in that, but since I don’t have a truck, I have to look for something I can drive . If you have any knowledge or know anyone that may have something, please let me know I dream and taste being out there in the real world and seeing some of this Beautiful world before I leave this place. my name is Sherri and I’m from California.
