Ekua: The Artist that "can't give you anything but love"

Ekua is an Artist and Activist in Manchester. In this interview, Ekua talks about her upbringing, her art, and struggles whilst painting a box. Ekua believes she was "born an artist", and definitely has the voice of one, as she narrates her life and explores ideas with us spanning exploitative love, racism in art education in the 80s, and her relationship with Moss Side.
Ekua is the founder of Global Arts Manchester, where we both volunteer. We interviewed her in her studio in May, where she was preparing for an exhibition in Alexandra Park to mark the end of her time as the Artist in Residence. Prae initially met Ekua in 2017 when she stayed as a guest in her Airbnb.
