I'm a little late but watched from Utah. I've always been fascinated by tornadoes. I wonder if in another life time I was a storm chaser. If I had the means to do it I so would. Thanks for the video it was awesome. The lightning towards the end was a bit freaky.
Thanks Trent! Maybe in another life time you'll be a chaser, but you've still got time in this life! 🙂This chase ended up being my best one of the year. Just an awesome day. Agree the lightning at the end of the video was spooky, especially knowing there may be another big tornado in that storm at the time.
4:24: I wish you would have stopped for a clear shot of the funnel behind the row of silvery grey silos. That would have been an awesome composition. Nice footage, nonetheless. A very photogenic system.
Thanks! You're right that would have been a terrific shot! We were so caught up in the moment that I wasn't even thinking of stopping unless we ended up too close.
Nobody else really got that third one. I did but the video sucked horribly with poor contrast and only catching it right at the canonical end of the formal tornado damage but got it anyway. It was a HUGE rapidly rotating wall cloud north of the highway east of Gilmore City that was on the ground with dusty inflow, like that landspout east-northeast of McPherson last week just after that photogenic funnel finally produced on the ground.
Yeah I haven't seen any footage of the third tornado. But we were close to the second one for sure. Heading east on Hwy 3 east of Gilmore City and punching through the south end of the hook. Winds shifted from southerly to strong northerlies and I remember commenting that I would bet another tornado is close and just to the north of us at that point. Really rain-wrapped and tough to see from our position though and we couldn't get north ahead of it in time.

Pochahantis? Named after a U.S. senator?
pocahontasiowa.com/government/history/ Apparently named after the woman Pocahontas.
