@@reddonut1518 You're probably right but a lot has changed since then. I'll just wait for the time being, someone is bound to test a variety of drives and put the results online. I bought a WD Black D10 external for my PS4 but after a while I ended up using it as a backup for my old PC. Glad I did because I would have lost everything when it's main drive failed. When using it on my PS4 the transfer speeds were terribly slow, it's USB 3.0 7200rpm rated at up to 250MB/s but it was doing less than half of that speed, on top of that it vibrated the fuck out of my desk. Backing up from my PC which didn't have USB 3.0 took ages, transfer speeds were like 5MB/s for 4TB of storage, it took days to complete. i hope they bring 1440p resolution support on post-launch update. if Xbox can do it, there no excuse for that. the main reason I want 1440p support is because 4K 144hz monitor still expensive.
Anyways, there would be no point in buying a 4k144hz monitor as they don't support HDMI 2.1 yet. It is better to wait for the end of 2020/begining of 2021 for the upcoming monitors. There are lots of other reasons why 1440p should be a native output resolution: 1. 4k even at 60hz is still too much for consoles (and most PCs if set to Ultra) so it will be limited graphics settings wise. 2. Framerate>resolution as long as the resolution is not just 1080p 3. 4k is only really noticeable on +30" screens 4. There are people who already have 1440@144hz which are even better suited for gaming than TVs (input lag i.e) Some people consider they did not add it because Sony sells 4k TVs
@@davidvillamarin7164 it obviously supports 4k but monitors are better prepared for gaming and there are people on PC who are thinking of buying a ps5 for some of the games. A lot of these people already have 1440p monitors and thus the importance of 1440p support, just like all Xbox consoles do.
Im very baffled how they still havent made gyroscope a accesible feature. It is essentially a third thumbstick that is actually more accurate. If you have lost a thumb you basically can’t play without needing a special controller. Gyro aiming/camera movement would bring opportunities to many people to play games. Sony is ignoring their biggest advantage on the controller against xbox controllers. And if sony implements it in software then every game that doesnt even have an option for it can be played with gyro.
I use gyro aiming in The Last of Us 2 and it's fantastic. That game has an incredible amount of accessibility features, it would be great if many of those were universal options in the Playstation 5 settings menu.
Seems they have found a design that they like at least for now they have been tweaking it for a couple of month now , more for big tv than monitor for sure.
The Xbox UI seems more practical and convenient, while the PS UI seems more elegant and interactive. I do wish Microsoft would add some music to the Xbox UI because it’s a little too quiet.
I’m actually loving the ps5 UI more than xbox. Also the dual-sense haptic feedback is making me want to play more on ps5 now since the controller is something you will be holding for hours, months and years on end.
@@amnril I just feel like they could be doing a lot more as far as access is concerned. I like the simplicity styled look but it's still clunky with navigation having to cycle through everything etc
Is there a native 1440p option in the resolution settings? Also, if I select a lower resolution in the system settings, do the games recognize the selection and cap the internal resolution for a benefit of framerate?
Most likely nope, otherwise they would show it already. If you look at all reviews available right now, no one of them are showing video output options.
Apparently no, they just did not care and also did not add it to this generation. There are some who consider it is a marketing strategy as they also sell 4k TVs. I'll keep playing at 1440@144hz on PC until I see a real reason to change to a 4k@144hz monitor and I guess only then buy a ps5 for some of the games
The console just downsamples to a lower resolution, like SSAA, so if a game is running at 4k and it doesnt have a performamce mode it will just run internaly at 4k, and then downscale to 1440p, giving you free anti aliasing, but no performance boosts

12:38 Now there's a surprise. The first console to have game options on the profile level was the Xbox 360. The second console to have those options (and more) is now the PS5.
@@HueyTheDoctor The reaction there was pretty strong. The Xbox 360 had the feature. Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 did not. Neither did Wii, Wii U, or Switch. So what else am I missing? PS1 and PS2 certainly didn't have that feature, and neither did Sega's old consoles. Specifically, what I'm talking about is telling the console you like inverted aim, or hard mode by default, and having that selected in games before you even change the option.
@@dun0790 I heard Mark Cerny talk about this however, Call of Duty seems to be far more extreme then other games, it's not open world, it doesn't have particularly large levels, and while graphics have improved It isn't on the cutting edge of visual fidelity. I liked this deep dive look at the PS5 interface, the best and most soothing one I've seen so far.. Thank you John = ) And yeah why not do the same for Xbox Series, would be fairplay I think.
There isn't a menu which tells which HDMI 2.1 features are currently available on the console, and which ones are supported by the connected display... something similar to what the Xbox Series X has, which is something useful to let people know what display features they can expect from their current setup.
Honestly, the real question I wanna know is how will THEMES work. The PS5s power should allow even more innovative/unique dynamic themes, but will Sony implement that?
At the moment there is no support for themes. Since the new UI always has art/music from a game you have selected, they might not ever implement themes.
@@strangevision99 Yea, that kinda sucks. Themes were a really cool idea imo, and offered some uniqueness to the console instead of just the background picture of each game. Maybe they'll consider it in the future, especially since some themes served as good pre order bonuses for games as welll

If an external SSD isn't going to give me much advantage over a mechanical drive I'd rather buy something with 8TB so I don't have to redownload 100+ GB games whenever I get the random urge to play.
@@arbiter- look up the video they made on the difference between different external drives on a ps4. There shouldn’t be a difference, considering it’s running back compat and the limiting factor is the speed of the drive anyway
So now I'm wary of any drive marketed for gaming, the noise and vibration were the worst part. Even when the drive wasn't being accessed it would randomly start, so now it just sits on my desk unplugged until I actually need to transfer files.

As someone who does have all my devices in French but always prefer having the original audio for voiceovers (which most of the time is English), the system-level audio language feature is much appreciated. It's like they made it specially for me.
DF is happy. They can test new consoles. Again and again. Nice job.
The commitment to the Knack gag is exceptional 😂
The sequel is actually a really good game if you're a fan of action platformers, in my opinion.

A new video for LICHDOM BATTLEMAGE? Hell yeah, I am hyped!!
Are we still able to activate primary accounts like on the PS4? So if I have a game on my account and I activate my account as the primary account on my son's ps5 then switch to his account can I play the games that I own on his ps5 like we can already do on ps4?
Yea i need to know this too :( .. we have so many games shared over 2 accounts
Yes it’s just called offline play or something
I need to know this because I’m giving my PS4 to my girlfriend and want to still be able to have my games on both systems
You can still gameshare
Yes, it works
As an Xbox guy, I really love the artistic flair Sony has in their UI. And having a mic and speaker built into the controller is a really nice touch.
You'll think that until you play a multiplayer game and you have to mute every single kid that is being screamed at for not doing their homework
Everyone having a mic in the controller will be a fucking nightmare.

i love the little touch of the highlight box bending in the direction you're scrolling in the settings menu. NICE!
I’m hoping to get the digital edition within the next couple months :) the hype is real
I need to know, how does system activation work? Do I need to deactivate my PS4 in order to activate a PS5? I really hope to put my PS5 in the living room and have it activated so my whole family can play on it. But I also hope the family can play in the other room on the PS4 when I want to play the PS5. All games are purchased on my account, so I really hope I can keep the PS4 activated for the family for when I'm playing on the PS5.
I need to know this too. Let me know if u find any info
Let me know if you find anything saying you can do this cause I wanna do the same thing
I seen somewhere that you can use both systems with the same account at the same time. Don't remember where though.
From what I took from this you can have a primary ps5 and a primary ps4 and they will both work

Gotta love Sony and their finesse with this kind of stuff 😍
Thanks for a great video as always Digital foundry 💕💕💕
i hope they bring 1440p resolution support on post-launch update. if Xbox can do it, there no excuse for that.
the main reason I want 1440p support is because 4K 144hz monitor still expensive.
I think 2.1 TVs are cheaper than 2.1 monitors
Anyways, there would be no point in buying a 4k144hz monitor as they don't support HDMI 2.1 yet. It is better to wait for the end of 2020/begining of 2021 for the upcoming monitors. There are lots of other reasons why 1440p should be a native output resolution:
1. 4k even at 60hz is still too much for consoles (and most PCs if set to Ultra) so it will be limited graphics settings wise.
2. Framerate>resolution as long as the resolution is not just 1080p
3. 4k is only really noticeable on +30" screens
4. There are people who already have 1440@144hz which are even better suited for gaming than TVs (input lag i.e)
Some people consider they did not add it because Sony sells 4k TVs
i dont like how the game icons are so small in the menu
They are hard to see for me too!
Same, I cant imagine there wouldnt be a customize title size option tho
I like it cause of my big ass tv

@@davidvillamarin7164 it obviously supports 4k, lol.
It doesn’t currently support 1440p

It’s something Nintendo embraces and Nintendo showed me how great gyro aiming is and how much more accurate it is
I use gyro aiming in The Last of Us 2 and it's fantastic. That game has an incredible amount of accessibility features, it would be great if many of those were universal options in the Playstation 5 settings menu.
After playing Uncharted/Killzone on Vita, then Days Gone, I agree. It makes aiming without it clunky in comparison.
Gyro aiming is garbage LMAO

The Xbox UI seems more practical and convenient, while the PS UI seems more elegant and interactive. I do wish Microsoft would add some music to the Xbox UI because it’s a little too quiet.
Kinda annoyed with no 1440p support
@Tech Hybrid does not make a difference to you but people who play with 1440p monitors are stuck with 1080p which doesn’t scale very well on them.

Is there a native 1440p option in the resolution settings?
Also, if I select a lower resolution in the system settings, do the games recognize the selection and cap the internal resolution for a benefit of framerate?
Most likely nope, otherwise they would show it already. If you look at all reviews available right now, no one of them are showing video output options.
no 1440. the game's have an internal resolution to perform the best they can already.
I’m pretty sure ign reported that ps5 doesn’t support 1440p
Apparently no, they just did not care and also did not add it to this generation. There are some who consider it is a marketing strategy as they also sell 4k TVs.
I'll keep playing at 1440@144hz on PC until I see a real reason to change to a 4k@144hz monitor and I guess only then buy a ps5 for some of the games
The console just downsamples to a lower resolution, like SSAA, so if a game is running at 4k and it doesnt have a performamce mode it will just run internaly at 4k, and then downscale to 1440p, giving you free anti aliasing, but no performance boosts

That isn't even close to being accurate.
Nice video, so happy I got a pre order of the disc drive ps5. Really can't wait to get it now!
Yes, please do the series X as well! Very excited for both consoles.
I would be interested in a close look at why Call of Duty games are getting so large. Maybe a developer interview?
Short answer slow hardisks force a lot of asset duplication all over the disk so it can be fetched fast enough
@@dun0790 I heard Mark Cerny talk about this however, Call of Duty seems to be far more extreme then other games, it's not open world, it doesn't have particularly large levels, and while graphics have improved It isn't on the cutting edge of visual fidelity.
Something just seems odd about it. Especially since some devs have stated asset duplication actually doesn't account for a particularly large amount of storage space.

Thanks John. Chill video.
@@what7530 I think themes will come later. PS4 didn’t release with themes either
