00:47 Round the world record breakers
    05:50 Star Sailors League
    12:12 Volvo Ocean Race Leg 3 & 4
    19:15 Rolex Sydney Hobart
How fast can one person sail around the world? Last year we thought we knew, but 12 months later when Francois Gabart smashed the previous record, the sailing world drew breath. Was this the ultimate limit to the ultimate challenge?
To find out, we looked at the history of round the world record breaking and talked exclusively to Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man to sail solo, non-stop, around the world about how times have tumbled and what lies ahead.
In addition, we go to Nassau in the Bahamas to witness an extraordinary victory as the world’s best compete in a champion of champions showdown.
We also re-visit the grueling Volvo Ocean Race as the fleet careers though the Southern Ocean before parking up in the Pacific.
Plus, we take a look at the controversy in the Rolex Sydney Hobart race.

I realize there’s an investigation underway but it would be ‘nice ‘ to get some insight into how a fully manned Volvo boat could apparently knife into a fishing boat at full speed. I’m a former professional seaman (British merchant navy and Canadian Coast Guard) and in my experience these kinds of collisions usually means that the fishing boat had gear out and couldn’t/wouldn’t give way and Vestas didn’t realize this until too late - but they must have intended to run pretty close

From what I know the fishing boat was likely an illegal boat from the mainland in HK waters, they are quite common and often operate with lights out to not attract attention. As there wasn't an in depth story on it even in the local news I believe that is most likely the case.

Thank you! Great update. Sad for Vestas, prayers for the loss of a life. Will Vestas continue or has she retired from the race?

The latest report I read was that 11th hr will not be racing Leg 5 from Hong Kong to Guangzhou & back to Hong Kong. Skipper Charlie Enright was not onboard for the entire Leg 4 due to a family emergency Stateside. He has returned to Hong Kong to assist in repairs.Skipper Charlie has said if all goes well, the boat will be ready for the 6100nm Leg 6 from Hong Kong to Auckland. Leg 6 start is Feb. 6th

Vestas was in second place on the way to HK when the Chinese boat hitted it: ruclips.net/video/acZa-F3RSfY/видео.html

It's disappointing that Volvo race organisers have said nothing about Vestas apart from a brief statement. We have seen nothing of repairs and don't know if and when they will race, pretty poor treatment of the fans that follow the race....

I completely agree! I was actually looking in the comments section for someone to say something. Crazy we have no idea what is happening. Anyways, this is by far the best race in the world!

It is because of China policy of censor and dictatorship, they control everything there, they only allow to say what is convenient for them, no way out, unfortunately.

Knox Johnson first and most famous solo circumnavigator? I think Joshua Slocum might have got there a few years ahead of him.

Well it's just bloody stupid wearing black offshore sailing gear for sponsorship reasons. Safety first out there and these experienced sailors should know better!
