"There are so many people who think adult life works like a high school popularity contest."
That's the problem - people think that 'democracy' (aka popularity contest) is the answer to everything. In reality, if everyone thinks the moon is made of cheese, that doesn't make it so. There are people who thinks that historians shouldn`t read and use German primer sources (documents of divisions, for example). Your answer will be correct in this case. In case of book with way more subject view it`s not correct. At least if you not investigate some right views on WW2 or something.
If i will use some Soviet books from 1970s-80s or modern Ukrainian books about WW2 i will just a fool. Such of these sources need a very skeptical analysis.

WW1 was going to happen, there were too many people on both sides that wanted a war for it not to happen. It probably would have happened differently but it would have happened. WW2 might not have happened if WW1 had gone differently. For instance if Germany had reversed it strategy and gone on the defensive in the west (no invasion of Belgium) while attacking Russia (Germany wanted a war with Russia by 1917 because they believed it would be too strong after then). That change alone would probably have kept the British out of the war (there was mass public opinion against getting involved in the war) , which would have kept the US out as well (no blockade). It would have left the French beating themselves against the German defences in Alsace and Lorraine while the majority of the German army went at the Russians.

Denial of monstrous atrocities, whatever their scale, does not in itself suffice to prove that those who deny them are racists vis-a-vis the victims. I am sure you agree with this point, which everyone constantly accepts. Thus, in the journal of the American Jewish Congress, a representative of ASI writes that stories about Hitler’s anti-gypsy genocide are an “exploded fiction.” In fact, as one can learn from the scholarly literature (also Wiesenthal, Vidal-Naquet, etc.), Hitler’s treatment of the gypsies was on a par with his slaughter of Jews. But we do not conclude from these facts alone that the AJC and ASI are anti-gypsy racists. Similarly, numerous scholars deny that the Armenian genocide took place, and some people, like Elie Wiesel, make extraordinary efforts to prevent any commemoration or even discussion of it. Until the last few years, despite overwhelming evidence before their eyes, scholars denied the slaughter of some 10 million native Americans in North America and perhaps 100 million on the [South American] continent. Recent studies of US opinion show that the median estimate of Vietnamese casualties [resulting from the Vietnam War] is 100,000, about 1/20 of the official figure and probably 1\30 or 1\40 of the actual figure. The reason is that that is the fare they have been fed by the propaganda apparatus (media, journals of opinion, intellectuals, etc., “scholarship,” etc.) for 20 years. We (at least I) do not conclude from that fact alone that virtually the whole country consists of anti-Vietnamese racists. I leave it to you to draw the obvious analogies.
In these and numerous other cases, one needs more evidence before concluding that the individuals are racists. Thus in the case of Wiesel, it is quite likely that he is merely following the instructions of the Israeli government, which doesn’t want Turkey embarrassed. In short, denial of even the most horrendous slaughter does not in itself establish the charge of racism, as everyone agrees. Since that is obvious and undeniable, one naturally questions the motives of those who deny the truism selectively, and produce charges such as those you relay."

Why do you think everything is so boring and monotonous, especially when it comes to history? It's memorizing names, dates, and places for a test and then can promptly forget that information once the test is over with. This absolutely absurd stressed importance on testing is what's produced this lack of comprehension and critical thinking. Which is also why they choose to blank out with trashy tv and mind-numbing substances. They absolutely hate their lives, their souls have been ground into nothingness probably by the time they even reached high school, and they literally cannot drag themselves out of that hole because they've never had that opportunity to develop critical thinking skills. And then if they have had those chances to break out of 'name dates places' numbness, they're stuck in dead-end jobs that are completely pointless just to try and scrounge enough money to even survive on and most of the time failing to do that because cost of living has massively outpaced wage increases and what little extra they do find themselves with they blow out on new phones or expensive things just to give themselves a brief moment of happiness and joy in the massive gray fog of their lives. (horrifically huge run on sentence, but oh well it's the train of thought)
It makes you sound elitist in the point of judging them for not wanting to deal with the reality of the giant mess of a flaming dumpster fire (ie, trashy tv and voting practices) and them going 'oh well like it's any different from everything else' because they've been taught and groomed all their lives to see that living in the flaming dumpster fire is the *only option* available. They can't see the bucket of water, and even if they did, they don't even begin to know how to at least fix it - and thanks to this perfectionist streak that's been baked into society, it's all or nothing. If you can't get it absolutely perfect, don't bother.
I'd want to ignore it all too. Do I facepalm frequently and want to rail against some of The Masses and ask what's going on in their heads? Absolutely. But I can also grasp things from their point of view - just the way TIK was saying that if you want to know what a nazi was thinking, you have to read a nazi. If you want to know why The Masses are doing this, you need to look at The Masses and all factors contributing to them.

@@TheImperatorKnight The charge of antisemitism is based in smaller part on his belief that Hitler was driven first by geopolitical motivations rather than animus towards the Jews, and much moreso his disdain for Zionism: actual Zionism, US intervention in the middle east to assert the independence of Israel, not the conspiratorial kind.
In recent years, American Democrats have adopted the view that the Israeli lobby is oppressing the Middle East and preventing the US from supporting Palestine themselves, but they're very rarely accused for being bigots for it.
Edit: Pat Buchanan is actually pretty important to US politics in this regard; after he was "made an example of" it went several decades before anyone of either political party was willing to speak out against perceived or real Israeli interests in US politics again. In very recent years, AIPAC has been vocally criticized for perpetuating and funding campaigns against anyone who besmirched US-Israel relations as an "antisemite" as an attempt to stifle future criticism, an accusation which some affiliated with the AIPAC have referred to as an antisemitic canard (hilariously enough). Foreign Policy In Focus writer Stephen Zunes tackled this back in 2006. It's a good read and focuses on how it's more a soft-power and cultural problem than AIPAC being all-powerful, and how military industrialists have benefited from the arrangement.
