WOOF WOOF! It's time for another Where To Start, and I wanted to look at the character who I really gravitated towards when I first started reading comics. . There may be a few choices on here that seasoned Bat-Fans would disagree with, but these are the books that built up my knowledge the best! . Hopefully this video helps at least one of you. Please like, subscribe and share with any friends who you may want to help learn more about the Dark Knight. And remember: Stay Mad, Doggs!
He's defo in the future Greg! I need to read a bit more superman in general, and it seems next year he's getting some omnis which will make it easier! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Batman The Killing Joke was the first story I read as a kid followed by Batman vs Predator first 2 issues. Then later in my adult years I read New 52 Detective Comics, Batman White Knight, Batman Black Mirror, Batman Hush etc.
My first Batman comic was TDKR lol. But yeah, would recommend Year One then Long Halloween then Dark Victory too. Hush and Court of Owls are good to start with too.
That's a great path to becoming a Bat Fan, Ino! TDKR is quite a deep one for the first one haha, but if it gets you excited for the hobby then that is the best book for you haha! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Saw your channel today as a recommendation. I’ve always liked DC comics but could never find where to start or how to begin. I’ve seen other comic content creators but none have ever done a good where to begin series. I definitely think I’ll pick up Batman Year One and start there. Thanks for the recommendation!
The comic book I picked up was Batman Year One. Here's my top 10 favorite Batman comic books 1. Batman The Dark Knight Returns 2. Batman Year One 4. Batman The Long Halloween 5. Batman A Death In The Family 6. Batman Under The Red Hood 7. Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 8. Batman The Court Of Owls 9. Batman Knightfall Trilogy 10. Batman Gotham By Gaslight
The first batman story I read was Knightfall. I read years after it came out but, it took me back to the nineties when Val Kilmer was Batman when it first came out. It is a great one of a kind story that is so much fun.
I started collecting comics as a hobby a couple of months ago, so I started with Scott Snyder’s Run and Year One - I’m hoping to get The Killing Joke after finishing Scott Snyder’s Run
Two great starting points! And Killing Joke is a great quick read that gets better each time you come back to it :) hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Starting out with Batfamily comics is a great idea! I read New Teen Titans, "Robin: Year One" and "Batgirl: Year One" after only reading "Batman: Year One". It gave me more perspective on just how much the Batman universe had to offer. Gotham Central could definitely be a good starting point too. After "Year One", I'd say everyone should give 80s-90s Batman a chance with classics like "Venom", "Going Sane" and "The Long Halloween". If they can't get into it or simply prefer more modern comics, Rebirth is also a great run to start with. About Elseworlds stories, I feel like they have a much bigger impact if you're more familiar with the characters. I waited about a year before reading TDKR and I don't regret it at all.
I agree, I think there are definitely good routes to becoming a BatFan, some on my list probably work better as a second or third book :P I also agree for the most part about Elseworlds tales, but I think White Knight could be the exception in case someone knows a lot about Joker and wants to read Batman too :) all good stories though! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
The part where Batman was gonna cut the baby in half to determine who the real mother was is actually a story from the Bible (1 Kings 3:16-28). Two women came to King Solomon claiming that a baby was theirs. Solomon was the wisest king in history, so he ruled that he would cut the baby in half so that both women can receive half, knowing that the real mother would want the baby’s life spared. When one woman said to just give the baby to the other woman in order for the baby to love, Solomon knew that she was the true mother and he awarded the baby to her. The history (which is found in the Bible and other sources) of Solomon and his wisdom is quite fascinating.
A lot of good points, showing that you’re both a seasoned reader and you understand the newbie mentality. The best one to remember is that, as a new reader, you might find your taste be completely different than the mainstream recommendation or the critic consensus. In my case, I picked up The Long Halloween as my first comic, read it and put it away, never wanting to read any comics ever again. I dislike most top picks recommended by “experts”: The Long Halloween, Year One, The Dark Knight returns, Court of Owls and I’m still bummed out by people recommending them. So my recommendation is the following: 1. If you don’t necessarily like comics, watch Batman, The Animated Series. 2. If you like the idea of comics, take Year One and Hush. Read Year One and Hush and see which one (if any) you like. If you like Year One, continue with The Dark Knight Returns, The Long Halloween, The Court of Owls. If you like Hush, continue with JLA by Grant Morrison, Injustice, The Rise and Fall of the Batmen.
This is a great list! And brilliantly presented too. Refreshing to have alternative titles put forward as so many Batman recommendation videos on RUclips just repeat the same titles. I’d maybe suggest Shaman since it ties in with Year One. Alternatively Gates Of Gotham or Gotham By Design as they give you some insight into the city. Really good suggestions tho
Woof woof!as someone that didn't have a lot of knowledge on Batman even though i ve been reading comics for a looong time,i have to say..great list man!most of these i had to discover on my own..where when you then?😋still haven't read Supes/Batman and Batman/TMNT though)) Loved the White Knight from the "newer" stories
Glad you liked it mate, but if I could go back in time I'd upload this video sooner for you haha! Some good books there for you to read, just hope you enjoy them! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Agreed with No mans land. One of the first Batman comics I picked up from my local library was vol 3 of NML. You don't need to know much besides there was an earthquake and Gotham has been split up into factions. I think it's a pretty sick premise. Personally I would reccomend in my opinion the best Batman story of all time Batman: RIP and then black mirror.
Batman got me into comics as a kid the cartoons and movies were their for me but as soon as I played Arkham asylum it made me want to dive into the comics with all the character bios and backgrounds and the overall darker tone The first batman story was Batman cacophony by Kevin smith and it was dog shit WOOF WOOF BTAS as a pick still counts as theirs that new ongoing series continuing that universe. Hush’s art is so legen...wait for it...dairy it made me buy the absolute edition Theirs some picks on here though I need to still check out. Great vid mate
I was pretty much the same, that and the Dark Knight movie got me invested! But I forgot about TAS comics, and that's a great point! But that's the thing about Batman, there's always a great story still needing to be read 😂 thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Woof Woof!🐶 What an awesome video, you can se that you put a lot of work in the where to start videos. I haven’t read the long Halloween, I’d like to have the Omnibus but it’s oop:( Enjoyed this video so much!💪🔥🐶
Thank you mate, I'm glad it shows, these videos are also fun to do! Yeah, the Loeb omni disappeared quite quickly, didn't get chance to show it in Whale Watch yet, but hopefully you will find one :) glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching! WOOF WOOF! 🐶

I’d love to see this kind of video for Superman, he doesn’t get enough love. I used to think Clark Kent was a boring character, now he’s top 5 for me!
He's defo in the future Greg! I need to read a bit more superman in general, and it seems next year he's getting some omnis which will make it easier! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶

Thanks for this. I am just getting into comics again...gap from 1992. Love the Bat,
Gonna get Hush first.
Hope you enjoy it, Kevin! I re-read it recently, so let me know what you think of it :) Thanks for watching mate!
Scott Snyder's Batman is a good jumping on point.

I think that if you are gonna read a more modern run then you should read Snyder's New 52 run over Tom Kings rebirth.
WOOF WOOF! About to start Year one right now, thanks!

Thank you for the kind words, and the Animated Series is a top tier suggestion! Currently re-visiting the whole Timm universe!

This was a great video but I just cant decide between year one, hush and the long halloween! They all sound great in their own way.
Love that list! Great picks. TMNT/Batman is one of my favourites.
Glad one of your favourites is on the list! Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶

I definitely wanna watch The Animated Series...🤘🏼💯✔️ I also wanna check out White Knight...👌🏼
It’s sad to think about nothing exciting has been written about Batman since this video was made 3 years ago.
Is The Batman based on Long Halloween?
For me just GL man. Doggs whoof whoof.
what about batman dark victory? 👀
This man says book with four O`s lol
Hush is utter, utter crap and one of the reasons i stopped reading Batman and i had a collection going back to 1963.
