Richter understood how to use silence. Players who interpret the piece in this way lose the supreme beauty of silence. And Sir Andras manages it incredibly well. While extended, the movement, and the sonata as a whole are under complete control. Form is everything, and Schiff is a master at limning Schubert's structures.

His voicing in the fourth movement is just so incredible. All the beautiful inner voices come to life.

my goodness that first movement dawdles on and on
chrish12345 indeed this is very long so is the entire sonata. Almost impossible control and focus is needed to keep this going.
