  • As a young boy in England in 1967 I was lucky to have a friend who had two older brothers who introduced me to a number of "counterculture" bands but in particular this one, Love, and their album 'Forever Changes' which left an indelible mark on me. To this day (2017) I can still sit down and listen to the whole album, and there's not many albums I can say that about. THIS IS THE TIME THAT I AM LIVING!

This song has to be one of the most beautiful and powerful ever written and recorded! The poetic lyrics, melodies, time changes, chilling violins and orchestral accents.....
...far surpasses anything ever out of California..... above the Byrds, Beach Boys, The Doors and the Eagles!
As of 2021, 'You Set The Scene' still remains, like fine art....timeless and classic! It contains a depth and beauty within it's body. I refer to it as Audio Art, a reflection into Laural Canyon from the Muse on Mt Olympus! May Arthur Lee & Love always be remembered for this epic piece!!

Love's best Album, he fell out with Bryan McLean who then left, then a bit later he sacked the rest, I don't think they could have bettered this Album so maybe it was for the best. Absolute classic to this day and the Forever Changes Live he toured is every bit as good.

I say rediscovered cus my dad played a lot of different 60/70s psychedelia for me when i was a kid, but ofc i never remembered what it was. And now its like i found a forgotten little part of me through this incredible music. Absolutely love this album :)))

Like many, I happened upon Love's music because I am heading to a local concert/dinner venue (small cap) to see a band I never heard of prior, but I knew "Alone Again or..." by the Damned which was on the play sheet. Once I did my typical deep dive, I came to the surface wanting to devour ALL their music! I am obsessed with Love! 7 and 7 is, is, in my mind, one of the first punk songs. Those drums and that vocal! Absolutely amazing!

Wonderful job, on the montage! Apparently this song is actually two or three songs, strung together in this arrangement, much like the Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” started out as two separate songs. There is a live performance of this, towards the end of Arthur Lee’s life that is breathtaking.

For a time my brother played bass in the production of, "Hair", which if memory serves, was at the same location. Saw later incarnation of Love in Hawaii. Also great. I frequently list Love and Beefheart as the two most musically important bands and they both came out of the L.A. area.

Hello for another week of RetroCountdown. Good to see the Beatles back at number 1 in the singles charts hey. Unfortunately the Australian band picked by you.....can't all be together until next week.....so they will be here next week for sure. This week's Ep. is a double Ep. and it is pretty special. One of my favourite albums of the 60s is Love's "Forever changes".It consistently makes the best albums of all time lists. To me, it evokes a sensation of what 1967 as a 6 year old felt like....along with "Bookends" "Sgt Peppers" and "Astral weeks". I love this album. Their record company has allowed us access to their catalogue.... Available tomorrow for $2.00 Will be a double Ep. of 6 songs "You set the scene" "And more again" "Red telephone" "The good HUMOUR man" "7 and 7 is" and "always see your face". We Will be releasing singles from classic albums of the past from time to time in the future. You lucky things.

Where are you walking, I've seen you walking
    Have you been there before?
Walk down your doorsteps, you'll take some more steps
What did you take them for?
There's a private in my boat and he wears
Pins instead of medals on his coat
There's a chicken in my nest and she won't
Lay until I've given her my best
At her request she asks for nothing
    You get nothing in return
If you want she brings you water
If you don't then you will burn
You go through changes, it may seem strange
Is this what you're put here for?
You think you're happy and you are happy
    That's what you're happy for
There's a man who can't decide if he should
Fight for what his father thinks is right
There are people wearing frowns who'll screw you up
But they would rather screw you down
At my request I ask for nothing
    You get nothing in return
If you're nice she'll bring me water
If you're not then I will burn
This is the time and life that I am living
And I'll face each day with a smile
For the time that I've been given's such a little while
And the things that I must do consist of more than style
There are places that I am going
This is the only thing that I am sure of
And that's all that lives is gonna die
And there'll always be some people here to wonder why
And for every happy hello, there will be goodbye
There'll be time for you to put yourself on
    Everything I've seen needs rearranging
And for anyone who thinks it's strange
Then you should be the first to want to make this change
And for everyone who thinks that life is just a game
Do you like the part you're playing
    I see your picture
It's in the same old frame
    We meet again
    You look so lovely
You with the same old smile
    Stay for a while
I need you so, oh, oh, oh, oh
And if you take it easy
    I'm still teethin'
I want to love you, but
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
This is the time and life that I am living
And I'll face each day with a smile
For the time that I've been given's such a little while
And the things that I must do consist of more than style

@@wil...71 You kinda had to be there, And it's just one song. Most Love fans grew up with them and have heard all their music, of which this was their last album. It was was a journey to see them do so much, with so many different styles and several band member changes. They were different and we thought the were cool. Those of us in LA would hear about them playing in Hollywood clubs like The Whiskey along with the Doors, The Birds and the Buffalo Springfield. They did rock, soft rock and even some jazzy stuff (Da Capo).
This particular album was the brain child of Lee, who concocted the horns and violin arrangement on his own at the very young age of 20/21. It was just good music and appealed to many of us who would stop and actually listen. But just hearing the one song is not enough to appreciate what Love's fans love. For most of us, we just kinda grew up knowing them. Have a listen to the album, Forever Changes, you might like it, or maybe its just not you cup of tea. That's OK too. Peace.
