Aw, it's so cute. i love your car painting style. I hate painting flowers! I have tried to in the past, but i always approach it like a different subject, so i never use the same techniques. You have encouraged me to try again, but with the same approach i use to paint landscapes and food!
Ooh that's so interesting! Now that I think about it, I think I avoid flowers too 😅 Try using your typical approach with landscapes/food and you might have a different experience! Thanks for the sweet comment! 💕
i am kinda a beginner in gouache and not that comfortable with it yet. I watch your vids and they make me wanna paint right then and there. you make painting look so delcious
I love the early reveal of what's obvious to me from the finished product in the thumbnail! I adore this little red buggy van. I'm a casual car person, in that I do have preferences and know what some models/brands tend to gravitate toward stylistically. I dont' care about cars in a mechanical sense though. This little car isn't 'perfect', but it's stylistic and it does look a little cartoony and illustrative. Not to the point of being overly-twee or anything, I'd say this gives a bit of James Gurney--....literally as I was typing this you said you were inspired by his car paintings for this painting! LOL mission accomplished! Anyways, I'm still a very new artist with a severe case of "when I'm ready"-itis, so I don't even know what I don't like drawing yet. But you've got a great point here--pushing ourselves with the subjects that intimidate or frustrate us allows us to push our limits and forces a new appreciation of the topic at hand. For me this will probably be buildings. Side note, your guesstimation of a "Mustang Habanero" made me laugh. That's so accurate to the feeling of muscle car names in general.
Thank you! I'm so glad you caught the James Gurney inspiration! I've been stuck in the "when I'm ready" mindset before too. The thing is, we'll never be "ready" unless we actually practice 😅 When I realized that making bad drawings/ paintings is just part of the process, I stopped fearing failure. You gotta embrace the failures, and use them to learn. I'd say, grab a sketchbook and fill it with bad sketches or paintings! Thanks again for the lovely comment! Wishing you the best in your art journey 🫶
This car is so cute! I found out this summer that I actually really enjoy painting old barns! It's really true that if you step out of your comfort zone, you can find a new subject you enjoy!
I love your car painting! It´s so cute. That part about expanding the mental library is so true! My dreaded subjects are portraits, I´ve recently started practingin them more and have gotten a lot better, not just at portraits but with my preferred subjects too. I´m only a beginner so I´m excited about every bit of progress I notice though :)
Hi Emily!! I really like your videos and to be honest you inspire me to art the things that I hate. I didn't really care for realism nor color theory, but since I started watching your videos, I was trying to get out of my confort zone and it's been a real challenge, most of the times I get punched in the face by the lack of practice. Recently, made a sketchbook just to use colored pencils to "force" me more to use more colors. Anyways, thank you for the content!! God bless you!!! 💕💕💕✨✨✨✨
Fiquei surpresa ao ouvir a voz em português assim que entrei no vídeo. Agora posso entender o que você está dizendo e me concentrar melhor no processo do desenho 😄, já que antes precisava ler as legendas automáticas do RUclips. (I was surprised to hear the voice in Portuguese as soon as I started the video. Now I can understand what you're saying and focus better on the drawing process, as I used to rely on RUclips's automatic subtitles.)

I avoid portraits of real pictures, or detailed human faces. Especially unhappy, or distressed emotions. I usually lean on my imagination and discover my paintings for the first time as I go, I also tend to create (grounded) “ happy beauty “ rather than (liberating) “ upsetting beauty “ , I had it in my mind for a long time. I actually want to learn to engage with those hard emotions of distress through art , I have not done it since I was struggling teen, and I do find it quite hard to engage with hard emotions . This is interesting, I’ll give a thought to that ! Anyway wonderful video, chatty talk, and painting 🩷 subscribing right away!
I totally get where you're coming from! It's super challenging to confront those stronger emotions in art, in both the literal and non-literal way 😅 A great resource for practicing distressing emotions in portraits might be to do some studies from movies; there are lots of emotions to work from there! Thanks for your lovely comment and for subscribing 💕
When I’m driving with my niece she always points out different “faces” she sees on cars. I see them now too 💫. I can totally see a cute little face on the one you painted. Maybe it is a portrait of some sort 😉??
I got into drawing and painting through my local Urban Sketching group, but I don’t like drawing people, even though they make those scenes look better.
Ah cool! That's totally understandable, people move so much and we can get caught up in the details of them. If you want to include more people in your urban sketches, I would recommend squinting at them (the same way you might at the environment) and quickly block them in as the collection of colors, values and shapes you see when you squint. It's okay if they aren't fully rendered, it will just look like they are moving and the scene will feel more alive. Easier said than done, I know! You can also take pictures and practice drawing them in a simplified way at home 😄
Hi there! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Working on figuring out why the captions aren't working, as I do have them turned on 🥲 I will let you know when I fix it!
Oh us Swedes and our silly spelling... You nailed most of the name. Alas, the "tj" in 'Tjorven' is pronounced like the "ch" in 'chimney'. Because our 'ch' sounds can be written as 'ch', 'sk', 'k', 'skj', 'tj', 'stj', 'sj', 'sh' and 'sch' - and leaning the difference is the worst part of Swedish elementary school 👍
Ah, that's so interesting! While "TJ" making a "ch" sound makes sense to me, the "sk," "k," "skj," and "stg" sounds leave me completely dumbfounded! I don't know how well I'd do in Swedish elementary school 😅 Thank you for the friendly correction and mini lesson! 🙌
Yes, cars do carry the personality of the designer of the car. And in this case, the personality of the country too. What you've done looks good to me.
What a cute car! I hate painting and drawing cars too, but you made it look like fun! I’d love to see your take on painting buildings 😊
Aw thanks so much! Building painting is definitely on the list! 💖
you've managed to paint the CUTEST little car 🥰
Thank you!! 🚗 My new mission in life is to see one of these cuties in real life 🥹

I would love to see you paint a cute little cottage!
Ooh I'd love to give that a go! Thanks for the suggestion!

You've inspired me to want to try to use a big flat brush I like the marks and I don't usually use one
That’s great! I love the look of flat brush marks! 😄
so talented❤

Beautiful as usual😍👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 I avoid painting animals 😅😅😅
Ah thank you!! ❤️ I'm the opposite, animals are my definitely my art safe space😂
Please try urban sketching or painting. I'm sure either would be very interesting to see your process. 😃☺️
I should try that out! Thanks for the suggestion! 😄
Could you enable captions please? The option is greyed out and I don't want to miss this!
