I play the bassoon in a quartet with a flute, clarinet and f horn. Your tips on blending are excellent, as we always work on our blending within the group.
The thing I struggle the most with when I play in an orchestra or band is definetely playing in soft dynamics. Playing second bassoon, where you need to play really soft in the low register it is extremely hard for me to play in tune. I'd love to hear what you have to say about the keys of getting pianissimo dynamics. Anyway, very informative video, thank you!
It depends! If it’s a very exposed/delicate cut off, then yes. If it’s pretty straightforward and there’s no slow down, as long as we’re playing together, I don’t generally worry about cueing off. Great question!
This is so helpful, thank you a lot!
I switched from clarinet few weeks ago to play at Korea University orchestra. Your videos are very helpful!! ❤ from South Korea.
Wonderful!
So good!!!!! Congratulations again, Nathalie…very good information, clear ideas, nice video and background …really great. 5 stars!!
Thanks so much Alexandre!!

Another great video. I love chamber music, it's so fun.
Great video, thanks! Especially in small ensembles, do you typically move for each cut off note, as well?

I started bassoon a few months ago after switching from tenor sax. These videos have been super helpful! Thank you so much!!!
Great to hear!
A whole video on tuning would be great, personally learning to tune has been a trial and error process and a resource like your videos would be great
Got it!
