Watching "Labor", followed by "the fruits", and ending here really makes for an uplifting and powerful trilogy, whether intended that way or not. An abused housewife, forced to live as a workhorse and "baby machine", escapes and falls into a garden where she can finally enjoy the fruits of her labor, drinking mulled wine with her sisterhood around a night fire. Peace can be its own kind of revenge. I find that aspirational and very well done.

despite the outwardly peaceful aesthetic and gentle, smooth motions of the choreography, the musical key and haunting make it feel like something's just not quite right and i love that.
oh man, i already liked this, but i fell absolutely IN LOVE when she sang the full version of "blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" because the misinterpretation of the shortened version is something that irks me to no end. kudos!
The original version is the short one, then someone made up the longer version later

The shorter one is actually the original. The "misinterpretation" newer and once someone mistakenly posted it on reddit it spread like wildfire as a "fact"

This song always makes my heart hurt. If my father was alive maybe id still believe. When your praying on your knees at a young age for your father and god doesn't answer you give up. I can't believe in something that has never been their for me. Your song makes my pain feel real and shared thank you.

I agree one hundred percent. I am a huge fan of Florence and I have been since Lungs and what Florence did for us when she came out when we were all around the same age Paris is now feels quite similar to what Paris is doing. I would be curious to know if she's a fan of Florence's because I can't imagine her not being a Florence fan. I think that's part of what drew me in to begin with but it's easy to see that Paris has her own vibe and she is kicking down doors and giving young women in their early 20's some incredible feminist anthems already. I can't wait to see what she does now that she's really exploded on Tik Tok with Labour (which is where I first heard her thanks to a RUclips short....I feel too old for Tik Tok 😂).

If someone could just explain the meaning of the lyrics, I would be so so appreciative. I’ve stared at the lyrics for literal hours and I’m just not able to put the pieces together in my head about what is truly being said. All of her other songs, I understand very clearly. But this one I can’t seem to wrap my head around and I can’t find any conversation board or anything about the meaning of the lyrics. When she says “you,” as in “you handed me a mug of mulled wine,” who is she referring to? Is the first verse about the initial sense of comfort that being in a church with “brothers of mine” and “fathers to alleve my head”? Why is there a contradiction between the bridge saying “and the blood… is thicker than the water” and then “no blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb”? Is she showing what it felt like to be told over and over to trust god and the church over women? I love this song so much, it is truly incredibly, I just desperately want to understand what it means because I can’t seem to fully wrap my head around it
I interpret it as her finding love and compassion in her sisters, the other young women in her area, maybe seen as witches by the other villagers. In the past every woman who hanged out with each other having fun would be suspected of witchcraft. The fact that she seeks approval and connection with her female friends is partially due to the hate thrown to women at that time and the lack of love she received from her father hence the lines "would I still believe in god if I had a father" and "no blood of the covenant (the church) is thicker then the water of the womb" meaning that the bond she has with her friends is far greater than the people around her maybe her family. "You handed me a mug of mulled wine" is referring to her "sisters".
