Super cool love JP and his content.
Trent Palmer- I just learned, curious if you knew, the tb2 drone, that Ukraine is using, runs off of a Rotax 915.
Found it fascinating and realized it’s gotta be ultra reliable and a very common engine parts for it to be used by a military.
The FreedomFox has become a familiar and dependable friend for adventures. You, your friends, and some helpful sponsors have shown that you can have the “new” and still be affordable. Not “cheap”, but certainly great value and performance for the money. The big thing to remember is that even though the sponsors are have a mutual relationship with Trent, they pretty much treat ALL of their customers like that. The guys at KitFox are a great example of that, and it was nice to see them having some fun at High Sierra, just enjoying some flying “firsts”, just having fun away from the office. I have an airline pilot friend who says 54 isn’t too old to start… I really should take him up on it.
Sure, if you have the cash to get your own plane and build up your time. These days, the 'early years' of your career are misery at really low pay. By the time you get closer to where it starts to really pay you back, it's 65, and you're retiring...
@@troyjollimore4100 Bit pessimistic. People often spend a lot of time and money on a variety of non-essential pursuits. I guess it’s a case of what you consider important enough to concentrate available resources on.🤷🏻♂️
@@colinwallace5286 That's just how it plays out, unfortunately. Too late I realized just how MUCH aviation was my passion. Now I don't quite have the money or the time, plus I'm in Canada, where licensing requirements are a bit stricter. Plus, I have a two hour drive to any GA airport.
I thought HARD about putting the $10k into getting my Private pilot's license... Sad to say, it's just not worth it for the few times I could 'use' it. Neither is a Commercial, sadly. I was just about to jump into ATC as a career! Then... COVID. Just dodged THAT bullet...
Relaxing and at the same time exciting to go hill hopping
What is that on the front of your shirt, Trent? Is that Trevor Jacob? It sure looks like it. Looks like you have abandoned the old intro. Great video!
Bro your shirt 🤣
That shirt is hysterical, it's awesome being able to fly your plane in vr on msfs. Great content and beautiful scenery!
oh man I didn't even notice the shirt! Epic! What news on that numbskull?
I want that shirt
Polarized for fishing great, flying not so much. You want to see the flash of glare from the windshield of the plane flying directly at you at over 200mph. Might be the only warning you get
Okay but this is a great video for those of us who want to bring as much realism to our FreedomFox's on MSFS 😀
Just got it yesterday after a year off of MSFS. Literally why I came looking for a video like this from him lol
This channel has pushed me to get my license. As always...amazing content.
Sweet video and flight, Trent!
Rotax? Bruh. Solid engines. I trust my Rotax V990, a 60 degree V-twin made for my Aprilia. Yes, it's a motorcycle. Motorcycles are different, they have wet clutches and a gearbox sharing the same oil. Just like an aircraft engine, if something goes wrong...it's critical.
Thus, I inspect and disassemble every 20 thousand miles.
So far, flawless in over 100k.
The 915 is a thing of beauty.
If it makes you feel any better, the Bleriot first flew using an anzani radial engine from a motorcycle, sadly I don’t know the specific engine
For reference, the bleriot was the first aircraft to cross the English Channel in 1909
Bit of a difference, aircraft and motorcycles are *slightly* different, but there’s a bit of a bridge for you
0:07 click on one, little catch on two, click out of three and we got this open
Love your channel, been following you almost from the beginning.
I cant actually fly due to medical issues, but I have been flying MSFS since its original release in 82' I think. I recently picked up the Freedom Fox for MSFS, I love the plane and I love using the Trent Palmer Avatar as my pilot however, .......................................you really need to talk to Parallel //42 about making a Hailstorm Co-pilot Avatar that squeals every time I hit turbulence, I would buy that Avatar in a heart beat.
Am I the only one wondering why JP has a well used lock picking set 🤔
Locksmith
I bought your plane for Microsoft flight sim, it friggin rocks!! So much fun to try and land it in the smallest of areas.
Maybe this isn't a factor with full sized aircraft, but as an RC pilot I discovered some years ago that polarized sunglasses make it harder to spot aircraft in the sky at distance because they remove reflections on horizontal surfaces (which is why they're great for fishing or driving).
Mentor Pilot has a video about why not to wear polarized shades in the cockpit. Worth a look
@@citizenblue Ya, he makes some good points about how they mess with LCD screens and plastic windscreens.
What I'm referring to is what happens when you look for aircraft a distance. Often you're looking for that glint of sunlight off the aircraft's wing or fuse, and polarized sunglasses will remove or attentuate that a lot.
@@daemn42 i hadn't considered that! Good point! I miss flying my RC collection- have been too busy to fly since 2020 and my helis are mothballed...
Hey Trent, I’ve been trying to buy one of the “fly low don’t die” hats for a long time now and as soon as I heard they were back in stock I raced to go buy one. Only thing is it seem like there is a problem with your website! I hope I can get one soon!
You'd look far cooler in an Air War T-shirt
Proud men don't try to hide their balding spot
@@choppergirl wtf kind of response is that 😐
@@Tyler-es The kind that knocks that stvpidlooking hat off your head and says get with the program, general aviationpvssy! Planes are passé, VTOL is hawtttt
@@choppergirl wtf ever 😂
@@Tyler-es Look at this Trentjoker he's got a Skyfox which is a sturdy parasol, and yet I've never seen him do anything even remotely interesting... a hammerhead stall, barrel roll, or even a loop, which are ALL manuevers you learn in second grade. The most advanced manuever I've seen him do is do is.. er.. a coordinated turn.. haha.
One more lame joker who clogs up the sky driving a plane like the Toonerville Trolley. And you want to aspire to be like that? eFthat.
Knocks the hat off rich boys head. You don't fly a quad for a living. In fact, you don't even fly a quad at all. You drive a city bus through the sky.
Stop embarassing yoirself by wanting to buy his merch...
Too good. I did not know your guys are friends. I first found JP in the around the world flight he did with Russel Brand…( just kidding). Anyway,
Also never saw him without backwards ball cap. This was fun.
Great video, is your friend gone share his sling build on RUclips?
Trent and JP- the dynamic duo!
I admire the hell out of what you do… I’m sure I’ll get blasted for this but landing is always the most stressful time of flight for me… and you basically just take off and land… and you land in some really remarkable places that I’d just nope the hell out of…:) keep it up Trent, from some random anonymous internet idiot.
Nice video! Good to see JP. He has a big adventure Slinging around the planet coming up!
Two of my most famous GA pilots flying together - awesome
Sling designed in my country. Proud to be a South African for this one. Regards.
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope all is well with you today?God bless you!!!💕
Hahaha I LOVE the what I assume to be TJ T-shirt!
I would just lover ride with you when you are out "playing". That looks like so much fun.
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope all is well with you today?God bless you!!!💕
Trent you make flying look so much fun, watching your videos have made me want to follow in my grand fathers footsteps and fly planes. You've ignited something special in me, thank you.
He tries to steal your plane, you take him for ride, and then you buy him lunch? At least you act better than Trevor!😁
Trent, Where are you getting your Swift fuel? I just bought a model 4 with a Rotax 582 but older tanks so no ethanol (which is all we have out here on the CA coast).
Loving the educational content, thanks for running such a great channel!
Awesome, I want a ride, and Ill flyfish with ya
Another great video. I am glad you like the Rotax engine so well. I do take exception to other engines not going to TBO. I have two Huskies and a Stardust Too all with Lycoming O-360 (180 HP) and three combined had less maintenance than the Rotax 912Si I had in a Flight Design.
They're all good. That's the point. There's so much conservative old guy hate for the modern Rotaxs (912iS, 915iS and even the older 912 ULS and 914 ULS Turbo) that is just not warranted or deserved. I think that's the point Trent was making. The O-360 is also a great engine. No question.
he has to do this, since he put his plane in the flight sim, lol all sorts of wierd things happening... all the diff peeps in the multiverse flying THAT ONE AIRPLANE...... ;) HEHEHEHEHEHe
Dude, more content like this!!!! That flying and those landings were outstanding! I’m in the process of getting my license and a kit-fox right now. Have watched all your videos 🫡👏
Didn't you have the Stock Flight Systems EMU with the built-in start-power relay? Look like you have a Garmin display in it's place now.
What a cool video! I still have not gotten my chance to fly a kitfox. It's gonna happen...
I dont have anything against Rotax but Viking will always be my engine of choice.
Hey Trent, how would you feel about doing a flyover of Tesla's Gigafactory one of these days? It's about 30 miles east of Stead. Make it a YT short and hook a bunch of Tesla fans, I think there'd be a big %age of them that would enjoy your channel. 👍
Us Fat heads appreciate big frames. As of now we are kind of limited to Oakley and Maui Jims. Those are on opposite sides of the spectrum. You get made fun of for trying to be cool with the oakleys and laughed at for being old with the Jims. My current spec is the Oakley ridgeline and I catch shit from my friends each time that I see them.
Once you decide to use mogas be aware that you cannot go back to burning 100LL in your engine. You need to stick with one or the other. The paraffin base makes avgas 100LL much more stable (so it can be stored a long time) and it has a much lower Reid Vapor Pressure (a much higher boiling point, to avoid boiling, or vapor lock, at altitude.) So be aware that mogas will vapor lock far more easily when its hot and at altitude and that can stop the engine (clear it using the aux fuel pump) and restart the engine. Do not let mogas sit in your hangar under storage or in your planes tanks for longer than a month. Use it or lose it. On some longer trips you may not have access to mogas so you should bring Decalin RunUp, a lead scavenger in a glass jar in your plane to remove the lead from any 100LL you need to use. Do not take it in the plastic bottle it comes in as changes in air pressure at altutude will deform the bottle.
Stealing is wrong
Can you talk about the two headsets? Bose a20 vs lightspeeds
Also hysterical shirt 👌🏼
How's polarised work with what i presume is a fair bit of plastic in the cockpit? I've always found them ok in cars but terrible behind a motorcycle visor.
Give your passenger s. Black pepper like a good two spoon fools. They be toons more entertaining 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
Q: How to start the engine?
A: In accordance with the Pilot Operating Handbook/Checklist
Don't know if you know but you are not allowed to use polarized sunglasses and pilot your plane. Plus, the glass LED panel will not be readable using poloraized sunglasses.
my dash doesn’t work in microsoft flight sim in your plane, and my legs stick out of the bottom of the floor hahahaha. fun anyway. but I have to turn off your livirie to get the dash to actually work.
Hey Trent, what’s the name of your buddies sunglass company he would probably like you to share that and a coupon code would be nice thanks
AWESOME vid, Trent!! I can't imagine how much fun this is in person - it's a blast to watch!! 👍😎👍
Where do I get that shirt!?
Trent, any coking issues with the turbo bearings? is it passive oil drip through at shutdown or are they spinning down dry on the 915?
I spotted the thief right away! He was prancing about on his tip-toes! Dead giveaway!!!
Trent! I have been waiting for a new hat, awesome! But your website has expired?
Peanut butter three pointer! Never seen snow? Come to Colorado! We got mountains too; 14ers.
You might want to rethink that liberal no lead gas crap, without lead, as of now you would destroy aviation.
I have this on MSFS from Parallel 42. I'll be taking notes.
HOW FUCKIN SICK IS THAT JUST TO WALK OUT OF YOUR HOUSE AND JUMB IN A BAD ASS PLANE AND GO EXPLORING WITH YOUR BUDDY
So awesome to see JP on the channel again. Sadly, those Instagram photos may have been all for naught with him apparently loosing his Instagram account a few days ago. :(
If only there was a Swift Fuel distributor near San Antonio.....
Typical hangar door lock is pickable in seconds by even a novice thief. Add a second lock if possible.
You need to completely change those sunglasses. They don't look good on you. They make your nose look huge and the overall look of an aging Vegas gangster.
Love the collaboration with two amazing content creators!
"Does snow make noise?" Where'd you find this guy, Trent? 🤣
I love their lil screams!
Namibia.
Well . . . . maybe that explains it. My bad!
This was AWESOME!!!
You should have bought your picks from LPL.
Trent, thanks for all the awesome content you put out. I've mostly been flying complex/high performance Cessnas but recently got checked out in a PS-28 SportCruiser with a Rotax 912. I am falling in love LSA airplanes and with the Rotax, although burping is a little weird and takes some getting use to at first... 😆
Hope to get my tail wheel endorsement someday and maybe see you and the other flying cowboys around in the Backcountry 👍
I just put a note up that I noticed he doesn’t burp his engine. Maybe just didn’t include it in his video
@@jhmcglynn He does burp, he showed it in his Bush Pilot POV video
Sling TSI High Wing! Awesome!
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope all is well with you today?God bless you!!!💕
Haha omg your shirt! I want one
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope all is well with you today?God bless you!!!💕
I can just imagine how much power you're getting from the Rotax 915! Just recently I switched to a Eurofox with a Rotax 912, I was so impressed with it in comparison to the Teledyne O-200-D that I was used to, I mean the RPMs were like double at idle!
Fly fishing is relaxing for me. Takes a bunch of practice but fun. Thank you for the video. Hope everyone is doing well. Take care - Be safe.
So nice to see JP again on this channel! Looking forward to the new Sling TSI :)
I just noticed your shirt at the end of the video!!!!! I literally laughed out loud
Just bought your plane on MSFS, hard not to after watching all these amazing landings. Does JP have a channel? I'm going to build the Sling High Wing too, would love to watch his progress.
How to steal a plane step one:
Follow the checklist
Where are you flying, CA, NV? What is that song at 13:47?
LOLOLOLOLOL
I just caught the damn shirt!!!!!!!!
Glasses , lighter shades on the bottom of glasses for looking at panel, yah?
Snow definitely has a sound. Best I would describe is a hiss.
Can I be dead weight sometime?
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope all is well with you today?God bless you!!!💕
@trent palmer Was the kit fox your first plane???
Do polarized lenses ever mess with you ability to see your glass instruments I have heard that some people say they can’t see the screens as well. Just wanted to see if you had an opinion.
Some few old school digital displays do
But modern glass and recent displays are perfect
I have a 2018 BMW X3 SUV with a heads up display that disappears when I put on my polarized sunglasses on. I have a Dynon D100 and D120 in my Rans aircraft and loose that display also when I put on my polarize sunglasses.
Trent what is your hourly fuel burn????
Hey you talked about ur buddies glasses can we get a link?
Man! That was great! JP!!!! This had to be a fun day!
What is the name of the home airport, (the one you took off from in the start of the video).
Been a while since I've watched. That new intro is epic.
That was a lot of fun.
Thanks for the ride!
Link to the sunglasses? Would like to have a look.
So cool. Trent and J.P. just chewing the fat (Aussie expression - talking and chatting) while tooling around the sky and landing in unreal locations. Such a laid back video, Baby. I'm an age gounded fly-boy and I get my kicks from living my life vicariously through you and your mates. Thank you so very much for living the dream..
I shoot film. So glad to see film camera 📷
Random question - do the garmin screens work with polarized glasses?
They sure do!
I think I missed the paint scheme change??
Man Trent those are some awesome spots!! Nice one!
9 in the evening??? What time does it get dark there?
JP!!!!!! I never know where in the world he is!
That looks so fun👍😛⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Awesome Trent! Loved it!
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope all is well with you today?God bless you!!!💕
Which camera did you use in this video?
Love the Jacob tribute T shirt. :)
