@@tztz1949 On what basis? Everything he does has been legal! If you know otherwise, you should prove it. Just because you don't understand doesn't make it unsafe or illegal or wrong. Troll somewhere else, or, better yet, don't troll at all, genius.
Force the judge and the FAA to explain why executing a Go-Around is illegal.
I think its the problem of landing on a non airport with less than 500ft to people or houses. I understand both point of view.
No, go arounds aren't illegal. Right now case law is, if you go around or do an inspection pass, you are now forced to make your landing there. If you don't, you can be charged with flying recklessly, flying too low to make a safe landing in the event of a engine out, and flying within 500' of persons, vehicles, property. If you attempt, you can no longer divert.
@@androidphone1901 So in short, if you pass to check your landing, deemed it was not safe to land due to reasons like let's say rocks or sticks on the landing site, you have to land there regardless or else you will be flying recklessly. In other words, regardless of safe landing conditions you are now committed to land, or else you are deemed a danger.
@@PrinceAlhorian Per case law, yes. Even if the pilot deems the landing unsafe. It's crazy.
For those people to make that explanation, they would have to know what the hell they were talking about, and well, Feds and lawyers making informed statements is not something that feds and lawyers do.
AOPA needs to get involved with your suspension. AOPA shouldn't have to get involved. I am a retired federal law enforcement officer. This is an example of terrible law enforcement that management at the FAA should be managing. I see in some of the comments some very harmful prejudice. I see some people using this example of poor law enforcement to paint the picture of all agencies and all federal law enforcement being bad. This is how hateful divisiveness starts and grows. Trent, I think that you are handling this in a very sensible and appropriate manner. I hope that you continue to do so. I hope that this is a wake-up call to the FAA.
John-you’re so right. I’m an attorney and flight buff…and I couldn’t agree more.
Very well said……. Thanks for your service 👍🍺🇨🇦
Our government agencies no longer represent the people, and the government is so bloated that many agencies need to be removed entirely. The government's only job should be to protect its citizens from threats foreign and domestic. The rest should be up to the people.
The reputation of bad federal law enforcement comes from constant bad federal "law enforcement" that is in itself illegal harassment of law abiding citizens with no oversight to speak of.
I can tell you that most of our eastern Kentucky law-enforcement can’t keep their slippery zippers zipped, remain faithful to one woman and leave married women alone in town. That’s all. A serious lack of integrity.
Rooting for you Trent! Keep up the hard work!
Right out of the FAA's "Off Airport Ops Guide.
"When evaluating a new landing site, or practicing before
conducting seasonal operations, fly without passengers
or cargo. Stow your survival gear as far aft as possible
to avoid a forward center of gravity, while respecting the
weight and balance limitations for your aircraft. Always
file a flight plan detailing the specific locations you intend
to explore. Make at least 3 recon passes at different levels
before attempting a landing and don’t land unless you’re
sure you have enough room to take off.
High Level: Circle the area from different directions to de-
termine the best possible landing site in the vicinity. Check
the wind direction and speed using pools of water, drift
of the plane, branches, grass, dust, etc. Observe the land-
ing approach and departure zone for obstructions such as
trees or high terrain.
Intermediate: Level: Make a pass in both directions along
either side of the runway to check for obstructions and
runway length. Check for rock size. Note the location of
the touchdown area and roll-out area. Associate land-
marks with your landing area, to have a good sight picture
to be used on final approach. Early morning or late after-
noon sun casts shadows that yield the best conditions for
determining rock size and, landing conditions. Similar to
ski flying with an overcast sky condition, landing areas are
very difficult to evaluate without shadows.
Low Level: Make a pass to check for cuts in gravel, rocks,
dips, bumps, etc., that can’t be seen from directly above. It
is important to be at an angle to the runway, not above it.
Certain light conditions can make a bad site seem good.
Check and double check any area not used before, or lo-
cations that have had high water since the last landing.
Make another pass and roll one tire for a few feet to get a
feel for the landing surface.
Each pass should result in you becoming more comfort-
able with your chosen landing area. If you are becoming
less comfortable, abandon the site and seek a more suit-
able landing area".
While this was published by the Alaskan Region FAASTeam, the publication does not say these techniques are for use in Alaska only.
Well with a quote like that how about we put together a go fund me page and get a lawyer to bring this forward with the FAA.
They brought this up in his case. The judge didn't care.
The FAA apparently wastes a bunch of time and money publishing training and ops guides, since we now know they're not worth the paper they're printed on in the courts' view.
Do we have a broken system?
@@johnlucas2037 yes. It’s antiquated
Love your flying videos so does my 4 yr old grandson. He even named his toy airplane “Palmer” and likes to fly it around the house making landings in unusual places just like it’s namesake. Keep courage through your trials knowing that you have a bunch of likeminded flyers behind you.
Your legal ordeal with the faa demonstrates how out of touch they are with the ga community especially the stol bushpilot community. Landing proficiency takes practice. Denying pilots the ability to hone their craft creates an unsafe condition for all. I hope that NIMBY neighbor is getting an education on the mess that they have created.
Send that neighbor many letters
If that neighbor is the type of person to report him, they’re the type of person to be very proud of what they’ve done.
Whether it's recreational boating, flying, or shooting, disgruntled Government agents can't wait to dun you for it. 🤠
It’s probably a Karen neighbor who doesn’t know anything better to do than report people.
They’re going after him but do nothing about jerry wagner who is totally going to end up hurting someone/causing a bad accident.
Big support out here in the aviation community, we want it to go well. You’re a great pilot, and a great advocate for getting out there and aviating.
If I go longer cross country, vfr , I like flight following. Yeah you’re talking to ATC, but someone’s always watching over you.
We have your back, Trent. We watch you for a reason. This community loves you and wants to see you get past this anxious time for you.
My Garmin mini was the best purchase I ever made. My family tracks me on all my XC's. $25 bucks a month for the plan is a cheap insurance policy in case something happens.
I appreciate how as an FAA follow up video (and keeping in mind the trial previously mentioned trial) he provides an example and emphasizes the practice of a "recon pass". I always look forward his videos and learn through his experiences, practices, debriefs, and lifestyle, thanks Trent!
Always fun riding along on you desert shenanigans! Have always thought of your flying as safety first . Mucho fun second! Stay strong!
Thank you Trent. Over all the years subscribed I’ve not heard any bragging about confidence, safety, compliance, etc. It was nice though to hear you talk about what we see in all your videos. Love of airplanes, passion to show , share, the freedom of flight and I could go on your calm personality. I can only imagine how many and students and pilots are better and inspired.
Trent, the fact that you're taking a very high road on this frustrating situation is a testament to your character. (You could easily be taking the opposite approach and rightfully so.) Another great video displaying your careful and safe off-airport flying. Well done.
Total Awesomeness! You're videos are great and help a lot of people. Thank you for all you do. You got a ton of people in your dugout.
To be brutally honest, it wouldn't surprise me if someone at the FAA still has their tail in a twist over the water skimming stuff. CASA have equally long memories here in Australia.
In 2007 I took a check ride for an organization that went downhill. The check airman started by asking for paperwork I was not required to show, therefore I did not have with me. He refused to give me the test without it and was very put off when I asked him to show me where it was required for me to show said paperwork, and his response of “it’s what I was told” was startling to hear from a check airman. I ended up having to have him call his superior, who agreed with me. At one point he made fun of me during the flight for refusing to fly through a cloud VFR saying “there are no eagles on board.” All of this in front of a witness who was testing after me. At the end of the flight he basically told me to get out of the plane and he’s send me the paperwork. 2 days later he called me at 6am and informed me that he was failing my test for 2 reasons. First - I forgot to check the backup GPS prior to takeoff, which was not a checklist item at that time. Second - I did not know the inspection period on the nitrogen canisters for the seat belt airbags. I appealed the decision which went to the guy who trained the check airman. In the end someone else with authority who was familiar with the matter ended up revoking the check airman’s privileges for 6 months because of what happened, but the adjudicator denied my appeal and upheld my failure and told me I could retest with him or wait for the original check airman’s privileges to be reinstated. Long way of saying I get what you’re going through despite my case honestly not being as serious. Good luck buddy, I’m rooting for you!
I really enjoying your flying videos! keep up the great work. I also like how you explain everything so its easy for non pilots to understand, thank you.
I own a Baron and fly it recreationally, just really enjoy flying family and friends around and showing friends what aviation can be about as it seems like to so many that it's such an once in a lifetime experience. Flying something bigger and somewhat sophisticated has always been what's appealing to me about flying, but until I watched your video, I never realize that there's so much more about general aviation than what I'm doing.
Your videos not only help inspire non-pilots to learn more about aviation, but also encourage fellow recreation pilots to expand their horizon beyond what they are used to and feel appealed to. Thinking about this made me finally realize videos like this is not only here because you're doing cool stuff, they are important because they help encourage people to expand their knowledge and experience in life, and that desire to expand is so important to humanity. You have many of us behind your your back on this fight!
Good video Trent. You have a positive attitude. I’m rooting for you!
I always enjoy watching your flying videos. Good luck with the FAA hearing and process, I believe you are on the right track. Lastly, I have a minor bone to pick with you. You have caused/motivated/inspired me to start flying again after many years out of the cockpit. I’m a retired Navy pilot and have found a whole new set of challenges and experiences in GA.
Anyone that watches your videos knows damn well you’re a responsible pilot and that you deserve to win this.
By far the favorite person I like to watch when it comes to back country flying. just started watching 1yr or so ago. Most definitely informational and entertaining keep on keeping on boss 👍 👏 🤙
I see you 👀 Fantastic, well executed video. This is a serious fight worth fighting, for your freedom and that of the entire aviation community and beyond. This action by the FAA sets a nasty precedent for government overreach in general, not to mention being a direct attack on my absolute favorite thing about aviation.
We’re all behind you brother.

Hey Trent, keep your head up you got this. You are a very responsible pilot, keep the good stuff coming.
I always enjoy your detailed explanations during flight about what you're doing and how you are deciding to do things. This is nothing new for you Trent and one of the reasons I love to watch your content and respect the way you fly. I've been looking at the Garmin inReach also but for my adventure motorcycle when I am out on my own so my family can keep track of my location in case I run into an issue. May go with the larger one with the built-in GPS navigation for that purpose. Anyway nice job as usual and of course the best of luck.
I love the expansive view from your cockpit. Beautiful!
Keep your chin up Trent you are an inspiration to people all around the world and show people the fun of flight with a level head and safe attitude.
What a great flight and landings with wonderful commentary. Enjoyed it very much. Thank you.
Love your videos! Your vids are what pushed me to start my PPL even at 50
Hang tough Trent! We support you and think you’re a great guy!
@Trent Palmer You got this bro... Enjoy your spring and keep flying safe!

Trent, I have been here since the start with Freedom Fox 1. At one point you water skied the Fox and were reported I think or someone was unhappy about it. You apologized and said that you wouldn't do that again and haven't since, on camera or off camera I have to believe. I completely respect your approach to aviation and your honest and forthcoming attitude regarding the regulations and safety. As I pilot, I appreciate it and enjoy your content. Best of luck with this issue and don't let it change your approach to flying.
Good luck man! We all see through the bs and are on your side!
Hey Trent thanks for the great vids! Glad your bout with the FAA is working out for! I’m also in a pinch with the FAA it’s not fun and it’s very intimidating and scary all at the same time! Keep posting vids love them!✌️
It’s so impressive that you can talk and land/take off at the same time!
Great video and flight planning tips!! Once again and always informative! You are among a small handful of content providers that truly strive to enhance the safety and popularity of general aviation without resorting to dangerous and illegal activities just for the sake of views! Thanks again and best wishes for any upcoming 'Adventures ' !
Fight the good fight Trent. As always enjoyed the video and please continue to put out content. You are my early Saturday morning, sitting on the couch, enjoying some coffee videos i love to watch.
That landing was butter..
The FAA would do the flying community a major disservice if they suspend your PPL
You’re a great and safe pilot Trent. 🤙🏻✈️
Happy to see you flying again. Love all your videos including your fishing, camping, and those electric motorcycle one's as well.
Thank you for sharing your day. I hope everything works out for you with the FAA.
Imagine the FAA suspending your certificate for 60 days because of an inspection pass when Trevor Jacobs purposely crashed an airplane and only got 1 year. The system is broken…
*disclaimer* I don’t know if it was a revocation or suspension but still.
The Jacobs case was a revocation. His license is gone. He is barred from re-applying for a year, but he won't get his license back automatically, he will basically have to do it over. And to my knowledge, there is a background check done before granting the license, and Jacobs will have to argue (and show) that he is a changed man before getting it back.
Trent you have always presented yourself with the utmost upstanding and safty! I really respect that, and that's what drew me as a none pilot to your channel!!
Great flight following the back country road. Fun to watch.
I love how you are addressing the previous video being posted the next day in anticipation of push back and flash forward the entire community is behind you on this.
Trent, keep standing up for yourself and your community. It's amazing that you haven't expressed any irritation with the Karens who are tried to get you in trouble with their video of a video.
There were airplanes long before airports. Some pilots need airports, others create them. Know your abilities and try to stay within them. Good job Trent.
I'm with you, Trent Palmer, and I think the majority of your subscribers would say, "you're the right man.". Keep On, Keeping On.
So glad you are being transparent with your current situation…………you are always safe…….nicely done…..don’t change…..keep being you and inspire. 👍✈️👍✈️🇺🇸✈️🇺🇸

@trent palmer this doesn't seem Real
Thanks for the trip around the patch!
We love you Trent! You have singlehandedly inspired many of us to get into bush plane flying.
I am close to getting my PPL (2 weeks out from checkride) and everytime I do performance TOL I imagine your plane haha
Trent, you are an "Ambassador of Aviation". Your content is inspiring and motivational. Your ability to give people and understanding of backcountry aviation is simply remarkable. Most people would not have the resources and communication ability that you have to be able to survive this type of harassment from the Federal Government. It is shameful, what they are doing. Kyle needs to mind his own business. And the FSDO should probably retire and have nothing to do with aviation ever again. We are pulling for you, for a successful outcome. I.E. The government comes to their senses, and realizes how badly they messed up on this, and takes some action on their end to ensure this type of thing does not happen to anyone else.
Good to see you out flying today. Thanks for sharing your trip. I believe the last person to comment inquired about the possibility of supporting you in the FAA process. I share the interest.
Love that you're fighting the good fight. Hang in there. It might feel like a dark place but don't compromise who you are and I'm sure eventually you will come out on top.
We Respect you and Stand by you Brother
According to the new faa rules you could not have decided to NOT land on that area if you saw a hazard or felt it was unsafe.
Once you do an inspection pass on ANY potential landing area,
YOU MUST GO THROUGH WITH THE LANDING you can NOT abort.
No matter how unsafe or dangerous it may be or you will have your license suspended or revoked. Is this an absurd rule or what?
Whisky Tango Foxtrot.
I'm a controller, and I sarcastically asked my boss if I need to start hitting pilots with the "possible pilot deviation" anytime they do a go around. He had heard of the case though, so we shared a laugh. So blatantly obvious that the judge, or any member of that board is not a pilot, nor got a pilot's opinion on the matter. Can't think of a single pilot that would have called a go-around reckless.
Seriously that's setting such a dangerous precedence!
Wow Trent, what a great demonstration of ADM when evaluating off airport landing sites. It is beyond my understanding the decisions the FAA/NTSB have made. It is my strong hope that only outcome of this action is a realization what a mistake the FAA made in this case.
Love what you do and all that you have to share. Huge inspiration. Keep on keepin' on. Aloha!
Thank You Trent, thoroughly enjoy watching you fly bud 🤙
Here's a funny thing: I trained as an air traffic controller over 10 years ago. I have not trained as a pilot or had any additional training in any aviation relates field.
Even I know that you're supposed to overfly a field before landing there... How does the FAA train those imbeciles? Or do they just hand out badges to random people that stumble through their doors?
That judge was probably a woke hire.

Flight following > vfr flight plan
Flight following is great for traffic avoidance, coordination, tracking, avoiding TFR, MOA, and accessing controlled air space.
Way better than a VFR flight plan.
@@crissd8283 also great for emergencies of any kind because you're radar contact, squaking a code, and talking to ATC. The emergency response will be near immediate. A VFR flight plan won't initiate any sort of search until you're 30 minutes overdue.

I'm not a pilot so maybe you guys can tell me about this but where these guys fly in and around mts. high and low etc. wouldn't there be a possibility that flight following won't work for them? In and out of radar or even ADSB coverage?
Thats a good smile video after yesterday! Good luck with everything sir!
Good explanation, Trent. Glad you're flying!

All the Aviation youtubers are freaking out about this ruling. It seems completely nuts to me that they came to this conclusion The ramifications will be devastating for GA. Especially for off airport landings.
Everyone who does a go-around will have their PPL suspended
All of GA aviation is freaking out about this ruling.
It’s not just RUclipsrs. 🙄
Some of us like the idea that we can fly and land at a non-designated landing site. There are literally millions of acres out here in the western US and Alaska that have no population, Is federal or state land or is privately owned and available for flight ops with permission, and has recreation sites (hot springs, lakes, rivers, caves, etc…) nearby that are only easily accessible by aircraft. Weather conditions change the landing zones each year, or each season, and a low pass is necessary to asses safe landing - and sometimes the answer is that some thing safe last season is no longer safe this season.
Making a ruling that a low pass that doesn’t result in a landing is a violation of 91.119(c) effectively kills the low pass - no one will want to do a low pass to inspect, not land, and then get revoked by the FAA. So, no one (safe) will take the risk.
It’s a dumb ruling - Should this ruling stand, it effectively kills the possibility of off-airport ops.
@@arctain1 it kills the possibility of a go-around in general, low approaches....
Yo Trent! Hoping for the best! BTW I bought the freedom fox in MSFS2020 and have been having a blast flying your plane! Thanks for the collaboration on that and making it available in such stunning detail! I couldn't be happier!

I never believed in defending myself. Always attack. I would sue the FAA in civil court, for cost and lost time damage, for issuing a flyer, describing how to properly assess a landing strip, before attempting to land, and have their judge rule against their own instructive flyer.
I just love how quick that plane lifts off the ground. It just want's to fly! I hope the FAA see the kind of person you are and keeps it cool. Good luck!
This dude is awesome! All the best Trent!
Seems like this video was meant to be seen by authority figures. Good PR my friend! I'm not in aviation so I have no knowledge of the rules. Your videos must influence a lot of people to learn how to fly. Flying looks so fun and serene! Thank you for all the amazing videos.

Be safe fly high and hang in there you will come out on the other side and move on this is just a bump in the road.
Hope you win your case Trent. You’re a great ambassador for aviation and a responsible one at that!
Your conscientious personality comes thru clearly on your videos. I wonder if the FAA looks at these in their assessment. Don’t stop. Freedom and flying has never been presently more enjoyably. Thank you!
Watching you fly around the desert in your small plane is what I love about aviation. The freedom of flying, must feel like being a bird.
riri yes 👍 it does!
That was very smart to do a low pass to evaluate the terrain. I know the FAA has that in their own off field handbook.
Almost like it’s the right thing to do….
Once he did an inspection pass and saw there was a hazard there, or just didn't feel right he would be required to follow through with a landing attempt even if there was a 100% chance everyone on board would die in the crash.
No. You are not allowed to fly below minimums unless you are approaching to land on a KNOWN and strip that is also okay with local building codes and noise abatement rules.

Good Luck with your case Trent, can't see how you could possibly loose... to my mind you exemplify good practice in off airfield flying.

If you need any support with reaching out to the FAA or anything else let the people on the channel know and it will be done.

The one flight plan I filed, my instructor had to remind me to close it after we landed. We only had like 5 more minutes to close it before we would've got a phone call. I don't think I would file a flight plan if I had a Garmin inreach.
Then you miscalculated on your flight plan. They trigger responses only after a while (1h? 30m? not a pilot.. .;-)
Btw, asking for Flight Following in flight creates some kind of "ad hoc" flight plan for you. At least it did, almost 30 years ago, in Germany.
@@realulli if I remember right we gave ourselves about a 20 min buffer but we were checking out the FBO and just forgot about it. I can't remember if the FAA provides an additional buffer or not before they call you, but I don't think so. The plan wasn't really needed but it was supposed to teach me about how to file them. What I learned was not to open flight plans 🤣 but I think I probably would still consider it if I was doing a true xc flight.

Hi, Trent. An opinion here, the music came in way too loud when you began talking about the legal problems. In fact, the music was unnecessary altogether. I'd rather hear you talk without the music clamoring for attention.
