i have a 3€ "Powerking" keyboard
a 5€mouse which claims it is from logitec but it isnt.
a pair of speakers that cost new 50 German Mark in 1987
a screen that i stole from a scrap yard (it is only a small one so they will forgive me)
and a computer that i bought from a website that i thought was a scam untill it arrived.
it cost me 100€ and it has a blue LED in it somewhere. it can run age of empires 2 on almost 25 FPS

My setup is a custom rig built from scratch by my huge game fan dad, and he started using it way back when I was like 3 years old(He nudged me to try at that time, which leads me to racing games). The whole thing is like a bunch of steel pipes and plates and wooden panels screwed together. The shifter is actually at the exact same place as a real car. Also I actually used this setup to simulate my license tests before I passed them.
You Dad sounds pretty kick ass
The reason for the shifter being so far away (I think) is so you can feel like your driving a truck thru Texas while hauling a load of guns
It's also much closer to real cars.

5:55 - This is G25. The badge on the rim is different, there are 2 instead of 6 buttons on the rim, along with sequential mode on the shifter unit.
That's what I like about the G25 shifter vs the G27 shifter. Being able to switch between H pattern and sequential mode when I want to go back and play some classic arcade racers that didn't support H pattern.

the owner of the setup at 9:55 here, the knobs from left to right is a h pattern, a handbrake and a sequential shifter.(also the paddles dont hurt my foot but it will rust under sweat)

at 6:04 Muye mentions the wheel in this setup is a G27, if you take a closer look at the shiter you can see the defining factor between it being a G27 and a G25, the little white piece. It is a G25

mounting your wheel/shifter on the mouse pad actually dampens the vibration from your desk top a bit, making the loud logitec wheels a tiny bit quieter.

My rig setup
An Rx7 seat on top of a pallet with custom mounts for ebrake and shifter.
The steering wheel mounted onto a chair held down with some weights so it doesn't move.
Hey it gets the job done and I get plenty seat time.
I play in my bed, on laptop, i use keyboard for every car game 💀😂

I have thrustmaster shifter, and actually, its not really comfortable when its too close to the wheel, especially on the 2 gear, so i think that should be a good reason why people put their shifter far away from wheel.

My setup is just a racing seat that slides in front of my TV and a Logitech G920 + H pattern shifter. It does the job unless I forget to move something behind the seat because when I brake the seat moves back
