My professor likes to do this in BJJ because guys like to butt out and if it fails you fall into a good guard pulling situation as well. Great details though. Thank you and keep them coming!
Glad you like our videos! You're right. Tomoe Nage is one of those moves that can be used in any combat sport. Thank you for watching and please tell others about our channel.
Yes! Never pull guard, just go for Tomoe Nage, if they base with the arms you can transition into an Jujigatame (armbar). Just drill it and it will be there. It also works in BJJ even if the uke (opponent) is bent forward a lot like BJJ guys tend to do. Osu!
love the throws, but is this the opposite way of standard grips (front hand grips collar, other hand grips sleeve), looks like these grips have front hand gripping sleeve and rear hand gripping collar.
Do you really need to hit your upper back to the floor in a freefall manner? I've seen some people just sliding their back onto the floor gradually, falling like a pendulum starting from lower back then gradually rolling on their upper back.
I've seen it tried, never seen it work. I've seen variations or the concept of throwing and rolling onto an opponent work though. Those usually used the knee or shin though.
In the times that I have seen the attacker rolling over onto his opponent, the score was usually less than Ippon when Tomoe Nage was used. You're right, usually the roll over finish comes out of a Sumi Gaeshi or Hikkomi Gaeshi. Good point and thanks for your comment.
I just came back from BJJ class where this was the only takedown I got. This is the only throw I can get when they grip me hard and stiff-arm me and keep me away and don't let me turn left or right or come close. There is one direction they can't block: down. I do it the way Danaher teaches it--with the hopping step and the support leg sandwiching the hip from behind as it pushes the opponent forward in case he is trying to pull back. You can see a bit of a hop @1:14 here. I've never been able to get the yoko tomoe. This head curl will really help. Thank you!
@@welcomematstevescott I wasn't like being rude or anything, just to be clear. But thanks for this video , last time I tried this I ended up hitting the other guy in the groin
SPECIAL THANKS FOR DETAILED EXPLANATIONS OF YOKO TOMONAGI. JUST GREAT.
Thank you for your comment Lev.

Love it! Great instruction with many repetitions and variations!
Thank you David!
My favorite take down the loom in someone's eyes when they never seen it and you flip them the first time is priceless
Could u do a video no gi like to see where yall grip
Check our playlist title "No Gi Grappling" as we might have something there.
Cool thanks

Good point. Feel free to adjust and adapt the grip to best meet the needs of what you want to do in a throw.
Like the video, great technique, but all of the background noise is distracting.
I apologize for the background noise. We moved from that gym so the future videos we do won't have that.
Very Nice Thanke you very much
Our pleasure-thank you for your comment.
Sir, you should tomoe nage the guy punching the bag
I agree. We try not to make a video when those guys are in the gym but had no choice that day.

You most definitely can. Make the technique work for you. We have some other videos on this on our channel in addition to this one.
@@welcomematstevescott Thanks man I will check your videos out... and I'm definitely subscribing))) Have a good one!
That is great to hear Joe! Thanks for subscribing and best wishes.

Look up Megaton Dias in BJJ. LOVES tomoe nage and uses it very effectively against very high level grapplers.
I used it yesterday in a BJJ tournament and it worked great.

do you push with your dominant foot or step in with the dominant leg?
That's up to you. Try each way to see which works best for you.
This is the tech all cowboys used against Indians in 1960s western movies.
You're right! I remember that as well. Brings back memories.
That guy on the bag needs to work on his form
You're right!

I didn't take your comment as rude at all Joshua. I thought it was funny and you are right, that guy on the bag needs to work on his form.
@@welcomematstevescott oh ok 😂. Question, where is your gym located?
We are in the Kansas City area.
