[00:00] Hey everyone, Jesse Letter here again! Today, I'm excited to share my experience with the Unitec USB 3.0 to IDE/SATA adapter. I recently received this as a birthday gift, and I couldn't wait to try it out.
[00:13] In my previous video, I showcased the Loch CROs technology atomic alarm clock with indoor and outdoor temperature features. If you haven't checked that out yet, be sure to give it a watch!
[00:27] Now, let's dive into the Unitec adapter. It comes with a power adapter, a USB adapter, and a 4-pin cable for 3.5-inch hard drives. The setup seems pretty straightforward, although I did encounter a few quirks.
[00:50] The adapter itself has an on/off switch, a power adapter input, two USB ports, and the adapter for the 4-pin power connector. There's even a handy OneTouch backup button.
[01:44] Today, I attempted to use it with a Western Digital 1TB hard drive, salvaged from an HP computer that had some graphics issues. Unfortunately, I faced some compatibility issues with older hard drives, possibly due to the adapter's limitations.
[04:32] However, with newer SATA drives, this Unitec adapter worked like a charm. It detected the drive and even had a recovery image showing up. It's great for connecting and potentially backing up your data from SATA drives.
[08:36] I initially tried using a SATA cable with it, but it didn't fit into the IDE slot. So, I stuck with the provided 4-pin cable for the 3.5-inch hard drive, which worked well.
[13:12] I considered reformatting the old IDE drive to use it for external purposes, but given the compatibility issues, I decided to use it mainly with SATA drives.
[18:45] In the end, this Unitec adapter is a handy tool for connecting and accessing SATA drives with ease. If you're working with older IDE drives, it might not be the best choice, but for newer drives, it does the job.
[25:56] Thanks for tuning in, everyone! Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit that notification bell so you won't miss my future tech reviews and setups. Catch you next time! 👋

Excuse me? That is not how you spell my last name first of all. And second of all, I prefer my last name not being used on my videos. Yes, I know I've used it in the past, but I just don't have the time to mute out my last name on my past videos. Nevertheless, I appreciate the timestamps.

Have you ever successfully used a SATA CD/DVD drive with this device? It works wonderfully for all my ancient HDDs. Now I just need to get it to recognize an old internal CD/DVD drive (my laptop doesn't have one)

Yes, I have used CD/DVD drive before. However, newer DVD's may not work on older drives. That's why I have a USB CD/DVD drive.

That plug is the full power supply for that hard drive it has to be plugged in you could just extend the wires. Make you a longer cord or you can buy an extension plug-in. The other small IDI plug in there is for a lab top 2 1/2 inch drive more than likely I just ordered one of these. But I used to work with this stuff all the time. You should also run the software and see what’s on there because it might be something like a one button clicker back up or something you just don’t know. I’m going back to some of the old windows 98 computers are XP because I can’t get any goddamn production done with all this new cheap garbage. The windows 98 computer I had ran for 25 years continuous with no failure me and my brother build it ourselves and we put good parts in it. All the stuff today is cheap garbage it’s touch and go because there’s no quality control on anything.

According to Amazon, it's supposed to come in a fancy box, not a generic one like that. There are also so many models and prices, and they all look the same, they're named the same exception for the extended description ... make sure you get the good one, the one that supports SSD. It recently took me forever to find that little thing in a defective laptop. Thought it was the CD drive and took that out .. didn't go back in well, plus disconnected some things on the motherboard. I'll be paying return postage and they most likely won't issue a refund. The damn screws are terrible on Alienware laptops. Nobody knows what they're doing, just sell me a laptop that doesn't go up in smoke, I T Surplus Liquidators!

This hasn't even given me any problems at all, unfortunately I no longer user it on my desktop computer, instead I use it for external storage on my Xbox One console! The main storage on my Xbox One was running full, if the storage on the Xbox were the 1 TB and not the 500 GB then I wouldn't have to use that as an external storage!

You didn't format that drive properly. It had 2 partitions, one for the OS, the other the recovery. Now you're stuck with a large partition and a separate smaller partition. You were supposed to delete the partitions and recreate one as large as the entire drive, then format it.
Then as far as that cable goes...
*CLEARLY* you have no clue what you're doing.
