Play liebestraum no 3 by liszt
Play some Dirty Loops basslines!!!
Play welcome to paradise in paradise
That rain culminating into a thunderstorm was mesmerising. It highlighted your skills and musicality perfectly. I could listen to that all day.
I second that. Charles is able to put his soul even on his most complicated solos and that's what differs him from other virtuosos.
This was the one. I can imagine your taking this and turning it into an entire suite, Charles 🙂
Agreed. I was going to comment about that rain-thunder transition on the same lines as you've done.
Charles should make a complete song of it. It'd certainly be a masterpiece!
@@monoludico6166 he has already played the thunderstorm part in one of the songs in his latest album, which is also a video here on his channel, can't remeber the name though
Yeah I want to hear this fleshed out into a whole song
3:47 okay I'm a marine science major and have heard a few whale songs in my day and i would honestly think "yup whale noise" that's so impressive!!!
Dude... I knew you could play lights out... BUT now you can actually talk to whales too??? OMG!!! That was incredible.
I think it would be legit awesome if he made a bass song using his bass whale sounds as a backing.
Mariah Carey can talk to dolphins, and Charles can talk to whales.
I learned how to growl and can now talk to bears.
It's just superpowers us musicians have.
That was really cool; possibly the coolest thing I will hear all day.
Oh wow you picked mine! You certainly made me smile, and made my day. So thank you 😊 Keep up the excellent work!
It was the best of the bunch for me so thank you so much for asking him! ❤️ Much needed
Lucky you
cheer up Kelly 😊
@@Kasek21 Sending love and hugs your way. Keep smiling =)
@@_Goblin_Queen_ Love and hugs back to you Kelly!
That thunderstorm bass solo made me feel like sitting at the kitchen table, watching the rain fall on a Saturday morning, as thunder slowly approached over the mountain top, culminating in the tree outside being struck by lightning. You are an absolute genius @charlesberthoud. Well done.
sounds like an anime battle
I am now convinced that one can use anything to play a Bass musically and experimentally. Always fantastic Charles!
I can't believe you did my request. I'm so happy right now! I think you are my best inspiration 'cause I started playing bass thanks to your awesome videos.
Shouldn’t it have made you sad 🙃
@@OnJahseh Oh, yeah! I forgot about that😂
What is the name of the song again? I cant remember the name of it
You are without a doubt one of the most creative bassists and musicians in general that I know. Every video of yours is enjoyable. Makes me happy to be part of the bass community with people like you in it.
Well said!!!
That rain solo was incredible.. I wish you could make it into a full piece 😊
I believe that part of it was taken from a solo Charles had already done, it's from this video
ruclips.net/video/HglS6Q5jcF4/видео.html
He has a full album released and if you listen to it you'll recognize similarities and some progressions from it in this video.
@@steem_3468 that’s my fav Charles song, just amazing
@@tcjoyce11 ooh thx.. must get
could you play the full version of the emotional bassline that makes people cry? I love it so much
Not to take away from the other challenges but the mosquito one had me laugh out loud! 😂 I’ve known that your playing invokes emotions, but now I know spontaneous laughter is in the menu too! Needed that today. Thanks Charles!
haha he nailed every single one. He is hands down the greatest ambassador for bass on youtube. Also shows how talented he is as a musician in general
amBASSador
@@Mega-ProfDrDrWitto yes
I want a 20 mins song of that emotional piece. That would be so good. That was beautiful.
That one would be so awesome
It's from a song called "One Tin Soldier".
And this, my friends, is why you practice and study music: it's not to show off, but to be able to convey a larger range of emotions and ideas through your instrument. Bravo, Charles! 👏👏👏
The "Insane and panicking" one just sounded like Primus.
So... job done?
As it should
thank you!
About 100 views a minute ain’t bad at all bubs!
Super happy for ya. Your one of those guys who deserves every bit of success that comes his way.
Thank you!
The first one sounded like bees with knives were coming to kill me in a horror film
Yeah that one sounded satisfyingly horrible 🤣
Mission accomplished then. ;)
That's how I feel when I see my gas and water bill.
Charles, you REALLY have to make a song around that "rain that evolves into thunderstorm" song. It's awesome!
Your hopeful melody to Kelly, it made me so happy, it’s so well done with the slightest flavor of melancholy. It brought me great joy, thank you Charles
Damn, that rainy day into thunderstorm was something else, it really blew me away, davie is known for slapping, but you're the God of tapping
I did get some chills from the "emotional bassline that would make everyone cry".
That song sounded so familiar, do u know the song?
@@josh_who_what That was driving me nuts. I stopped and went down to mix up some bread dough..."One Tin Soldier".
Thumbs up for Charles to write the rain piece into something longer 🥰
I was expecting the thunderstorm section to transform into ACDC's Thunderstruck at the end, would be hilarious :D Beautifull, as always.
OMG SAME
DONT GIVE HIM IDEAS
That Rain to thunderstorm was absolutely incredible. It needs to be evolved upon and made into a full song... Please
How does he come up with such creative pieces so quickly? Charles you are a world class player but it is your creativity that is phenomenal and unique!
Goodness. I don't even play bass, but somehow your videos are so darn fun to watch. Thank you for your time, talent and creativity that you give to all of us through these videos. This one was just great, like always.
I was just thinking, on a real, human level,I hope you realize that your nearly infinite seeming stream of creativity is an unexpected gift for us. And like all unexpected gifts, there's no schedule or requirement for them. Don't ever let the pressure of expectation get to you, Charles. Just keep doing what you love, and we will be happy for whatever talent you choose to share!
C’mon, world! Gotta get Charles up to one million subs. Nobody on the Internet deserves it more.
What a fun video idea! Keep these coming! You’re the man, Mr. Berthoud. 🙌🤟🔥🔥🔥
Rain to Thunder; was just perfect. Really captures the image in notes. You sir, aren't a musician, you are an artist. Bravo.
That fantasy adventure game song was absolutely incredible. You never fail to amaze me dude 👌
7:42 that is the most hysterical thing I've ever heard being played on any instrument. That certainly earned my like.
Rainy day into a thunderstorm ⛈ 🤯 wow! That was amazing. Charles, you are truly inspiring.
Amazing as always! Easily one of the greatest bassists of all time. You sir deserve every bit of recognition you get and then some. WE NEED TO GET CHARLES TO 1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS!!! TELL YOUR FRIENDS!!!
You are my favorite youtuber these days. Every video is enjoyable, and you genuinely love what you do, which makes it much more fun to watch.
Hi there Charles!! As a bassist and probably your biggest fan 🤘🏻 I got the references to your own amazing solos. A rainy day that evolves into a thunderstorm: The last ride. Blindfolded bass solo: Epico. An extreme wide shot of a picturesque moment in a fantasy adventure game: Highland Dream. Thanks a lot for sharing your awesome talent, comedy skills and beautiful music of yours with the world. Greetings from Bogotá, Colombia 🇨🇴
Don't forget, when he did the falling from heaven, it was from his original titled Fountain Of Light! I don't believe a video for it was released, just on apple music and spotify
@@electricleaf1150 yeah! From the Fable album 💿. It’s also available on Tidal! 😬
If you made the rain storm riff into its own song, I would download that in a heartbeat. Very Midwestern Emo/Math Rock, I loved it~!
Edit: Adding the timestamp at 6:35 for my own future reference XD
charles you are the reason i got my bass; thank you for your massive and continuous contributions to bass and music
What an effortless badass. So good. I thought I was a natural at music but you've got that extra something. Love it.
Not only did you do it justice, you are Bass Justice! Insane talent! Rock on!
The piece you played for “falling from heaven“ - if you made an entire album just like that, I would buy it! That was beautiful!
This was easily my favorite video of yours so far! It was so cool to see your musical interpretations, and I especially liked hearing your thought process in theory terms. More theory for Solo Bass!
Amazing video! I loved the part of the war hero coming back home. You nailed the emotion and solemnity
The musical sentivity and comprehensive of the 'client" demands is even more impressive than the actual musical skills !
Emotional baseline was friggin on point, hit it on the head 👏
Thanks for all the great bass content, you are amazing at bass and super creative as well!
Mate, you are an absolute genius, your level of musical intelligence and understanding is unlike any I’ve seen.
You did fantastic with all those challenges. I particularly love that "war hero" piece~
The moment I saw the notification I immediately tapped it, I’m not disappointed. Keep up the amazing work Charles!!!
I think this is my favorite video you have ever done! Spot on interpretations of all the requests....Bravo sir!
There is a song about a sunny day, turning to rain, then to a storm, and then back to rays of golden light. Called Jacobs Ladder by Rush it's good
Lots of cool allusions and call outs to your Fable EP. Great album that more folks should get!
The blindfolded one sounds a lot like the "classical part" of one of your previous video (10 style in 1 bass solo) - Still love it ! Great video as always(The fact that I know most of your videos by heart indicate that I probably spend too much time on YT watching bass instead of playing it - that's on you !)
I usually watch RUclips in 1.5 or 1.75 and I watch your's on normal and have to double check if I'm playing the right speed because you tape/slap so dang fast! Good stuff, mate, fantastic work!
You are so creative and talented! I liked every minute of the video. The progression from soothing rain to raging storm was wonderful! I loved your mischievous smile in the mosquito bit 😆
The returning war hero was absolutely beautiful, you need to compose a bigger piece around this. They were all good, I also think you nailed the rainy part of the rain turning into thunderstorm on the piccolo. Also, you are a whale whisperer.
Charles: @4:22 "Let's hear what it sounds like when you slap it."
Charles: *Plays something that sounds NOTHING like what a bass sounds like when I slap it.*
It was more:’’ Let s hear what it sounds like when l slap it’’
He tried to fool us
0:45 I loved that new radiohead song!
Moved to tears more than once while watching, dude. Good work.
"The most emotional base line that can make everyone cry" is loosely based on My Neighbor Totoro?
I need a full length song of the thunderstorm. Absolutely amazing.
It's called the last ride. His original.
@@JennerationX100 oh thank you.
@@keithstone8637 let me know what you think.😊
@@JennerationX100 truly incredible.
Super nice to hear you playing hope for someone who needed.
Another great video! I absolutely love your playing! 💯👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think Charles would jam FAMOUSLY with John 5.
And that rain-to-thunderstorm thing was ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!!!!
he has a few songs that soud a bit like that one.
The song he used for the thunderstorm is an original of his called The Last Ride, it's on apple music/spotify, and it's the youtube video called Ethereal BASS Solo, the part he played here is about halfway through the song
@@electricleaf1150 cool :)
The first one would surely be a hit in today’s “classical” genre. Academics will love that.
Wow, the rainy into thunderstorm was amazing to listen to !! I want more of that
Each of these turned out so much better than what I was imagining while reading the requests. You’re good! ^^
Мужик, ты нереально крут!!! Вот бы стать таким же мастером как ты!! Буду изучать твой канал!!)
Leave Ukraine alone
@@zakgraunke181 you should not blame the people for government decisions.
@@zakgraunke181 As Valentin said: don't blame the ordinary Russians. Their government lies to them and brainwashes them. Most don't even know what's going on. Blame Putin and his cronies.
@@valentinrozenblit4998 Спасибо! Я не сомневаюсь в том, что всюду есть нормальные люди. Уверен, что их большинство.
@@Emielio1 Благодарю за понимание. С любовью из Санкт-Петербурга.
the rain and thunderstorm makes me want to see what you could do in collaboration with Rob Scallon. Would surely be one of the greatest pieces of music of our generation
Absolutely amazing as always Charles you MUST do many more of these theyvare so gratifying
This is great! Not only funky bass lines but also creative and atmospheric soundscapes!
The rain - thunder one
Me at first: oh wow, this is shaping up to go hard af
Me once he started playing the last ride: WAIT A DAMN MINUTE-
Love it tho. It’s one of my favorites of yours.
Good work Charles, love your work!! Also what model piccolo bass is that?
It's a LeFay DeTuner, the same as my black LeFay but with piccolo strings on.
Thank you am I was looking for something like that
Slapping - great
Finger style - awesome
But when it comes to tapping - I have to stop whatever I am doing at the moment and just listen and be fascinated. Damn... This is just beautiful, touching a spot in my heart..
About every other of these challenges were part of songs he's got on albums!! Love hearing them being used as well as seeing Charles improvise on the spot 😊
There's a credibility problem with saying that you can get a good sound out of that Donner bass: I firmly believe _you_ could get a good sound out of a piece of bailing wire tied to a broomstick.
New challenge
Not to mention the reality that the bass still sounds like garbage, even in Charles's hands. I miss hearing him play his other, professional-level instruments.
The super emotional bit was quite lovely, did you adlib that or is it a song I can hear more of?
combine the falling from heaven and rain to thunderstorm pieces and you got yourself a beautiful song.. personaly i think its even better than some of the other songs you uploaded. consider making more of these theme songs it suits your composition style i think you write beautiful in these
Charles, you are the man. Beautiful playing and you don't take yourself too seriously. I salute you!
Let me guess
6:56 The Last Ride
8:15 bass solo in 10 styles (classical part)
9:14 Highland Dream
9:14👆 sound's amazing 🤯
Wow the whale sounds part was really interesting. Gonna have to invest in that bass and ebow in the future.
Also spot on mosquito noise
This might be my FAVORITE video of yours - certainly top 3! Amazing, fun, inspiring and cool.
This is probably one of the most musical videos I've seen. Really, it's like a complex album on emotions. Great video
I'm actually kind of surprised about the eyes closed/blind folded thing. I've been playing guitar for the last 10 years and getting into bass as of last year. I've spent most of that 10 completely blind. Even when I could see I was visually impared and always thought that when you get good enough you don't need to look while you're playing. The only time you would need to is if you're learning a new technique or trying to adjust bad habit's. Thanks for sharing, and this video was great. .
Muscle memory. The more you play/practice... the more you develop it.
I kinda chuckled at it ESPECIALLY when he said that it might be hard to do because i knew that he was being sarcastic.
No offense to donner, but I could send Charles a bass made of an old canoe with strings of human back hair and it would still sound better than my bass
2:38 reminds me of Lover's End Pt 1, by Moon Safari.
One of your best videos that I've watched of yours in my opinion
We need full versions of each of these pieces please! Anybody agree?
I agree 💯
wow, that electricity bill sound is so well done, i was screaming for you to stop playing!
I was thinking about it, and you’ve just sold me that bass! Can’t wait to learn
Amazing video, thank you for this. I would like to get tuned in a bit better with my guitar, but thanks for the sponsors for showing that pretty sweet bass.
Legit would love it if you had sheet music or tabs for some of your orginal stuff. Like legit I want to learn that bass line you did for the emotional baseline but suck at watching and playing.
I felt genuinely sad when that fantasy piece ended. That was gorgeous dude.
The whole piece is here: ruclips.net/video/-QraB4e7cEw/видео.html
@@docfaraday2338 Big ups, my dude. Thanks a lot for the link~!
Very cool exercise! Well done! Thanks for the great content
Blindfolded bass solo - I am blown away. So beautiful! ❤️🥰
Guitar: *exists*
Me: well, that just sounds like BASS with extra steps.
So are you, not him, able to play Baden Powells prelude in C minor?
i would love to just see like a 20 min groove session
The rainy day bit was superb! Worth making a full song of it. I would listen to it all day long....
The song he used for the thunderstorm is an original of his called The Last Ride, it's on apple music/spotify, and it's the youtube video called Ethereal BASS Solo, the part he played here is about halfway through the song
I love long videos! So much Charles. So much bass ❤️
The war-hero one. I initially thought it wasn’t epic enough, but it’s the war-hero returning home. Honestly, a good aural representation of the emotion. From my limited experience. It’s not “triumphant”, just kind of “I’m glad to be home. That really sucked.”
