I know people probably won't agree with me, but I think this song captured the true potential and true talent of No Doubt as a band, and of Kelis' eclectic style of music. I've always loved No Doubt, but this made me look at the band as true music lovers instead of just a "rock band". And it made me see that kelis could easily do rock if she wanted to. beautiful collaboration!
You can definitely hear Gwen singing the chorus along with Kelis. It's subtle but it's definitely there. I wish Kelis, No Doubt and NERD would collaborate again, because this is one of the best and most underrated collaborations of the 2000's. It should have been a single, with an amazing video to boot!
Great song. Neptune's produced this track back in the Day. Probably didn't make the Hell Good album, so stayed as a Kelis song. If NoDoubt released it, the song would have Charted om Billboard.
The Neptunes are the essence of modern black music. Futuristic yet sparce. We keep shit simple and yet it hits your soul in such a way its complicated to explain how it personally effects you. Always in a place of sorts. Peace 🖖🏾✌🏾
This is my fave track by kelis.. pure awesomeness. Whats happening with neptunes/n*e*r*d lately? They're are my favourite group and they're still great but they sound nothing like this anymore :(
#OfficialThrowbackClassic...I've heard this at a pool party. The Neptunes' catalogue is worth some serious $$$ now as they expand their works for all artists... Reminiscent of New Jack Swing...
@CocaineHabbit sorry bruh, but "i'm a slave 4 u" is just the neptunes version of the PRINCE produced track "nasty girl" performed by vanity 6. look it and you'll be surprised that we are still in a way living in the early 80's
that would be dope if the whole track was like the neptune portion. i guess this is the first time we got to see how the neptune sound would sound with live instrumentation. kinda reminds me of some gundam wing shit.
@99cashlady I agree 1000%!! This is a perfect song for the perfect day with the perfect artists and producers. Perfect!...In case I didn't make that clear
when you hit that much fame and success, you're bound to get soft. you're not hungry as you used to be, and you find a winning formula that's easy to do. they still have a few good jams every once in a while though, like 'you know what' on the new n.e.r.d album.
Was "Perfect Day" re-made for Kelis and was a "leftover track" from the Neptunes/No Doubt "Rock Steady" album sessions? Both Wanderland and Rock Steady were recorded around the same time, so I'm just curious if "Perfect Day" didn't make the cut of the Rock Steady album and Neptunes gave it to Kelis?
I personally believe it was. A bunch of Neptune tracks were recorded by one artist, sacked and have rerecorded vocal tracks by another artist and then released. "Come Get It Bae" was originally sung by Rhea, then later released as a Pharrell track, or "You Know What" was originally recorded with the singer Res, but then was an NERD tune. Its happened a lot over time
[Verse 1] Perfect day, just you and me Let's make the whole wide world just leave Turn on the answer machine We're gonna lay around, go nowhere fast [Pre-Chorus] Give a little love, right to me Give a little love, right through me Give a little love, my baby Give a little love, come see me [Verse 2] Having you right next to me See, you're the only thing that I can see We fit together perfectly We're gonna lay around, go nowhere fast [Pre-Chorus] Give a little love, right to me Give a little love, right through me Give a little love, my baby Give a little love, come see me Give a little love Give a little love [Chorus] Only you and me Only you and me, so happy Only you and me Only you and me, so nasty Only you and me Only you and me, so happy Only you and me Only you and me [Verse 3] Perfect day, just you and me Let's make the whole wide world just leave Turn on the answer machine We're gonna lay around, go nowhere fast [Pre-Chorus] Give a little love, right to me Give a little love, right through me Give a little love, my baby Give a little love, come see me [Chorus] Only you and me Only you and me, so happy Only you and me Only you and me, so nasty Only you and me Only you and me, so happy Only you and me Only you and me Only you and me, so happy Only you and me, so nasty Only you and me, so happy Only you and me [Outro] Give a little love Give a little love Give a little love Give a little love Give a little love
Sample??? The Neptunes RARELY sample. Interpolate? Yes, but not to often. Best example of the Neptunes interpolating is for Snoop Dogg's "Let's Get Blown". They interpolated the track "Watching You" from the late 70's/80's group Slave.
Even though I don't show it on RUclips, I'm a BIG MJ fan. I can't hear any relation between these two completely different songs. I even banged out the chords on my synths between the two songs and and there is no relation. The bass lines different, the bridge, the chorus... just totally different.
uhhmmm....ISO by N*E*R*D. It was recorded twice (you know that)....Great example is the difference between the electronic version of "Am I High" to the 'live' version. Maybe you should put a Gundam Wing vid to "Perfect Day"
This is not no doubt. This is labeled wrong. One of the guys from Korn supposedly recorded the guitar for this and not members from no doubt. The staff should be listed on Amazon or something. But I just know for sure that Gwen nor any other no doubt member appear on this song.
Yes it is. Look up the credits to the Kelis album it's on (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanderland) Writers: Gwen Stefani, Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal -- that is No Doubt! Not to mention it sounds exactly like No Doubt. I'm not saying someone from Korn wasn't also involved, but you can very easily look up the writing credits to this song.
yeah totally, they've gone soft and not as hungry, they're beats now sound like demos and not enough substance in the beats. i think 2002-2004 was their best year where they prod. bits of justins ablum, kelis, britney, jay-z etc, they were 'real neptune sounds' but they've lost it now. i think they should look back and grab some inspiration from those times

If you listen to it with headphones you can hear Gwen so clear in the left headphone on the “give a Little Love “ part.
wow
a great collab
I thought it wa just gwen on the chorus
IF THE NEPTUNES ARENT THE BEST PRODUCERS OF THIS AGE
I love the rock vibe. This is a great blend of R&B and rock
Honestly wish more people knew abt Kelis and this album, perfect day is one of my favorites off Wanderland

woulda helped if it was marketed world wide and not just a UK release. Virgin dropped the ball on that one.
Inspiration for The Internet's "Partners in Crime 2"
Also one of the best tracks ever!! 💜 😘
How in the HELL did I forget about this amazing song???! I used to play it everyday!
*adds to ipod immediately*
It really is a great song!
I’ve been listening to this album for a loooong time and I’m just now noticing Gwen Stefani on the track
I didn’t know either and I’ve literally been listening to this album since it came out in 2001.
man @ 2:56... just takes me away...goes straight to my soul

I wish they made a video for this track - kelis and gwen singing together - the video would have been soo sexy
Kelis is so underrated 😩 I've been listening to a cover of this song by The Internet - Partners in crime part 2.. 💜 Big choon
I’m glad someone else noticed😭
@@ohchulas5204 Ooh yes , the absolute GOAT🩷🩷🩷 She was all that before Rihanna and Nicki n the rest of them
Defo best track on the album, it's a shame they didnt make a video for this instead but also good it's not so mainstream or the song gets boring
One of my favorite songs from Kelis.
🤟
damn this song knocks!!! i love it. never knew it existed. thank you so much for uploading it!
This is my fave track by kelis.. pure awesomeness. Whats happening with neptunes/n*e*r*d lately? They're are my favourite group and they're still great but they sound nothing like this anymore :(

top 5 kelis song right here

the album this song appears on came out before the live version of "in search of...", when they experimented more with live instruments.
This goes so fuckin hard!
@littlelouisvuitton- the track is for Kelis FEATURING 'No Doubt'. Gwen is singing the chorus, that's it.
i feel the same way about that but everyone has to change sometime, for better or for worse...
i like how gwen was singing in the hook aswell
that would be dope if the whole track was like the neptune portion. i guess this is the first time we got to see how the neptune sound would sound with live instrumentation.
kinda reminds me of some gundam wing shit.

Am i the only one that noticed how The Neptunes snuck in on a N.E.R.D. track?
💜🌻 Isnt N.E.R.D the Neptunes with Shay?
@@MadouFrusciante yes, idk if he knows lmao

Underrated comment by op, I thought I was the only one who noticed. It's the best part of the song. You just don't hear those phased synths anymore.

Gwen fans are so obsess and close minded, sorry I'm a No Doubt fan and I love this track.

this song is better than the entire push and shove album.
The original name of this song was "Wicked Day".
That's new to me! Thanks for sharing! 🖖🏾👌🏾
And it's originally produced by dr dre, then it was eventually cut off the album and re-recorded for Kelis.
why can't you hear gwen in the track?
If you listen with headphones, you can hear Gwen's backup vocals during "Only you and me"
Even though I don't show it on RUclips, I'm a BIG MJ fan. I can't hear any relation between these two completely different songs. I even banged out the chords on my synths between the two songs and and there is no relation. The bass lines different, the bridge, the chorus... just totally different.

Gwen definitely did background vocals on the "give a little love" part.

A member of Korn appears on the track "Easy Come, Easy Go"
Writers credit ...and performing in the song are two different things.

Is true??
Prolly in court w/ Nas! XD
Modernizedz
lol
The song feels unfinished like a lot of Neptunes produced album filler tracks. It’s missing some depth.
What is the instrument that starts at 3.06?
These are all Korg Triton and Roland stock synthesizer sounds
cali22boi Thanks so much. I feel like it’s a pretty signature sound from The Neptunes production.
@@adzboy88 the Korg Triton was their go to until roughly 2008, as they seemed to get away from it in favor of other gear and technology
I love them but The Internet kill this all with Partners in crime!
