I like how you mention microaggressions. I still remember being on a bar association meeting by phone, & the lawyer running the meeting, who was an African American man, asked me if I were a paralegal. Other times, attorneys have been blatantly rude to me. It's definitely a topic we need to talk about to improve the profession.

I feel like you just traded one microaggression for another here. What does his race have to do with it? Shame on him, and I agree with you that it's a microaggression but it's really interesting that you mentioned his race when that wasn't pertinent to your point.

Congratulations on 6 years in the biz!! In reference to how we're treated in the legal field or any field; we're damned if you do and damned if you don't! I've posted on your channel before and I want to go into big law. I'm a Business Law student at Arizona State. We must challenge ourselves to be more than what is expected of us. Every job has its headache's, but at least as a lawyer you're well compensated for the racism and misogyny that comes along with the industry. McDonald's ain't paying enough to suffer that life!

I am probably the only African American owned & operated Lawsuit & Litigation Broker in the industry. It is challenging and I absolutely love what I do. It so important to understand the pros and the cons in business this video is very insightful and encouraging at the same time.

Thank you for your awesome video. Its really nice to hear that the reasons I would like to leave my big law firm are the same reasons that others tend to leave. Before I leave I'm going to have to cope...I was wondering if you've shared how you cope with things like having to be on call and working through weekends - knowing that anyone can ask me to sit at my computer and work at any time just makes me feel so depressed.

But, you’re a M+A attorney!!! I’ve decided to pursue law. Private equity will likely be my area of concentration. So happy your channel found me, lol. :)

I have a question, I am currently a highschool student getting ready to graduate this year. I did some research and i was wondering if a paralegal certification through only the CLS program and having a year or more of work experience working as a paralegal can higher a applicants chances at getting into a Ivy League law school? Especially when combined with good GPA and LSAT? Thank you

She however has worked on a divorce, adoption and a case involving property. These are all separate cases. Is this just TV? Or can one practice in multiple areas of law?

Hey I’m not sure if you’ll see this comment but is it possible to transition from big law to public law? Balancing out the genuine desire to pursue public interest but also the debt incurred from law school is a rough one and I always assumed this idea was a pipe dream.

Honestly it ebbs and flows for me so it balances it out. When I’m in it, I can be a bit negative but try to set boundaries and always make time for myself. For example there are two things i don’t compromise on even if I’m busy - going to my workout class and eating dinner with my family every night. Small wins help me get through it.

Wow. This is so eye opening and sad. I’m sad bc as a minority woman. I felt all the things she said about how white people just don’t include us, those were not her words exactly, but, I felt and do feel that way; and she literally just confirmed that what I’ve been feeling is in fact true. My heart is broken even more about the realities of life.

Let me add my two cents here. I've been a legal secretary for 40 long years. The majority of those years were spent in small to medium-sized firms. I'm now five months in with a Big Law firm and can't wait to get out. I didn't even know what Big Law was when I got hired. I can tell you my observations: Big Law firms don't care about you as a person. It's all about money. I miss the slow-paced relationships I had with attorneys I've worked with in the past who actually knew and cared about me. Now I've got 5 attorneys I'm working for and nobody cares about me as a person. They just want to keep adding more and more attorneys to my load without any regard for me. They also manipulate. When I started, I was told I'd have 3 attorneys. Here we are five months into the job, and I've magically got 5. Nobody asked me if I could handle it or even WANTED to handle it. In firms this big, there are lazy, lazy ass people and believe me, you will get stuck dealing with the crap they don't want to deal with because nobody has time or cares enough to hear you complain that your plate is full and that so and so doesn't do their job which creates more work for you. They just want it done. I don't care about the money at this point. My advice: if you want to make lots of money and can go with the flow, do it. It's definitely not for me.
