Honestly, I don't want a reboot. The original series is so amazing in many ways. But I would LOVE a movie or a continuation of the series with Xena and Gabrielle after many years, to heal the pain left by how the series ended. They could say the gods decided to reward Xena for her positive influence on humanity and bring her back to life. I wouldn't settle for anyone beside Lucy and Renee to play the parts of Xena and Gabrielle, of course!
As an original fan, the writing was so incredible and, it is a true point Lucy makes. They would need to consider the level of writing in a reboot. It was smart and campy.
5:18 diversity in the media was a thing that was happening naturally in the 80s and 90s. As in, it was cool and interesting to have diversity in the media, and the majority of Americans accepted the idea. I’m a man. I grew up watching Xena. It never crossed my mind that Xena was a woman. I just saw her as a cool character in a great story. That’s how my friends my age felt when we watched shows growing up. The gen z people I personally know and met that scream and yell about the lack of diversity in tv shows and movies have never watched any tv shows or movies pre year 2000. So in their heads, the world felt very white male dominated because they were told by toxic feminists and activists that white men are keeping everyone down. Do the research yourself. Pull up all the animated and live action tv shows and movies from 1980 to 2000 and list all the non-white male characters. You’ll be surprised how diverse they were. Also, when you meet a person who screams lack of diversity in the media, ask them if they’ve seen any tv shows or movies pre 2000, and see how far back can they go before they can’t recall anything ever existed. I bet most can go back to only about 1998. And they can only remember one or two shows.
Before I had any real common knowledge of Wonder Woman growing up as a kid, Lucy Lawless's Xena was (IS) my first Wonder Woman. I'm sure for many as well too. If that doesn't speak volumes Idk what does. ❤️‼️
I agree re streaming platforms. You can watch 4 seasons only. Watched for first time in 2024 on streaming, realised it had 6 seasons and bought DVDs. Remember we had the clones and soul transference for bringing back Xena and Gabrielle 😊
I go for the idea of making a movie as a continuation to the last episode. The ending was so painful, even though Xena is the best series of all, still I can't see it again, not even one episode because I always remember the painful ending. Xena doesn't deserve to die beheaded, and Gaby also doesn't deserve to live alone after leaving her family to stay with her best friend. We want a continuation to restore Xena's life, we want to heal the great wound in our hearts that was caused by the painful ending. The legend of Xena shouldn't be ended like that.
Years back I was too poor to go to a convention, now I am making good money every year and the conventions are no longer happening. I hope that the reboot happens and opens up an opportunity for a reboot convention.
I'm so glad Lucy took The Spine of Night. I wish I could see it in some cinema, but oh well. Though I might say, I'm glad that SW-role went to Ms Carano or whatever. Sure, it's good money, but not really something I see Ms Lawless in.
I got to read the pilot script for the new Xena reboot from just a few years ago and it wasn't that great, in fact it was pretty terrible, as it was a brutal knockoff of GoT. We're all clamoring for more Xena, even the actors, even the producers and writers from the show, not just the fans.
