"I rewrote the end of the song with bagpipes... kind of a last minute thing. I was laying in bed at 3 o'clock in the morning and I heard bagpipes. I played it for Cassie's Mom and Dad and Misty [Cassie's Mom] said, "You're not going to believe this but Cassie's favorite instrument was bagpipes." ~ Michael Smith in concert in Springfield, Mo on 10/3/19
I heard him share that at a concert here in Texas. I've never heard of this artist or really liked bagpipes, but this song will forever stay in my heart. If people listen to the story behind this song, It really can change their perspective and purpose in life. Absolutely beautiful!
I heard M.W. Smith on an interview talking about how he first met Cassie's parents, how he wanted to be the strong support for them. Then, when he got there, he said he just bawled like a baby and they had to console him. But then, he told them this beautiful story how he came to have this interlude with bagpipes and wanted to know how they felt. When her mother said it was Cassie's favorite instrument, it was really a powerful moment. Thank you, Michael W. Smith, for blessing us with a song that gives us a chance to strengthen our faith as well as to pray for those who lost loved ones. God bless you.
I am learning the song 'Friends' on piano, because my friends at 'All Peoples Church', which used to be in Diamond Bar, CA, all joined forces to pray me OUT of a coma caused by a brain aneurism. My mom initially called both of my brothers and told them to hurry down to California if they wanted to say "goodbye" to me beFORE I die. "He's currently at Torrance Memorial, in Torrance, CA, where the neurologist said her mentor, Dr. Vespa, the neurologist at UCLA Medical Center could perform a NEW procedure that could save his life, but you have to HURRY!" Another neurosurgeon somehow found OUT about this conversation, calls my wife and says, "I've been practicing medicine for 25 years, so I know what works, and what does NOT work, and that procedure by Dr. Vespa will NEVER work!" My poor wife responded, "I'm CERTAIN you know more about this than I do, but we don't seem to have much of a choice!" Well, obviously, it DID work, because the person entering this information right NOW is that man. But for the rest of my life, I'm going to be quoted for what I said when the medical staff saw me open my eyes after 4 weeks in my coma, take a look at the weeping woman at my bedside, my wife of 17 years, and every medical person yelling out, "Wa-HOO!", and ask me if I recognize the woman. I said, "I'm not sure who she is, but I think I like her a lot." (Of course, I had to be TOLD that I said this, because I don't remember ever SAYING this!!!) To hear my story, search RUclips for "Charles Frank Kurtz", then spread word that miracles still happen to this very DAY! MY being alive to even SAY 'Miracles HAPPEN!!!' is miraculous!!! (BTW, I now remember who my wife IS, just FYI!😆😅🤣😂)
Place in this World made Michael W. Smith famous. But this song is a brilliant but sad masterpiece that solidified his importance in the Christian music industry.
I remember he made this song for the beautiful children that lost their lives years ago. It's Halloween I was 17 years old when that happened and when those 2 boys asked them if they believed in God and they said yes, I do. That's what I knew they were in heaven. At that moment before the bullet even hit him. Jesus is truly amazing, father. If we just give him praise and love every day and show it to others. And if others would just open up their hearts, they didn't see what I just the amazing father Jesus is truly. Hes our king and he will forever reign.
I love that Micheal dedicated this song to cassie as Jeremy Camp did for Rachel. Both songs honor the true spirit of adversity and the testing of one's faith in the midst of hardship. Both songs echo not being ashamed to proclaim the name of Jesus.
When all your treasures are here, it’s very difficult to die, but when you everyday build up in God’s kingdom and most of your treasures are there, it’s not difficult to leave.
That put tears down my face. I lived close to that school when this happened, and very vividly remember almost all of that day. And then learning about what she did for Christ and the other girl doing the same for Him. It just breaks my heart still and I am still so proud of them both. Will not ever forget it! Hope I teach my girls to be strong like that.
For those who have watched this video who have not been saved, I have good news for you. You can start a relationship with God and then know that you have Heaven to look forward to someday. It starts with repentance. You tell God that you are sorry for your sin and mean it. Then you ask God to live in you. You have a time where you are then forgiven and then you begin to know God. Nobody is perfect getting informed that you have sin for Jesus to cleanse is not a reason to feel singled out.
I think of the message of this and it moves me deeply...appreciate your life and make sure you are right with God today...today is the only day we have, we don't know what tomorrow will bring. LIVE TODAY FOR GOD!
1st time I heard this song live was at the Franklin Graham crusade at the United spirit arena 1 year after columnbine, that song makes you think how dedicated am I to God
2024 Remembers the victims of this horrible tragedy. May every Year remember. We love you and will never forget you. Thank you Michael for a great song.
I think the problem with the school shootings that took after is that there's too much focus on the perpetrators and not enough on the victims. Do you agree?
Even though I am an atheist, I have always thought this was a wonderful song. It's written very well, it conveighs a message, an idea that even though I don't subscribe to it, over a billion people do. Even without it's religious nature, there is still real meaning here, it speaks to the human experience. The vocals are simply amazing and the insturmentals are also very well done.
The whole song is about a love for God so strong that a young woman was willing to die for it. If God is subtracted, (the 'religious nature') she simply threw her life away for nothing and is worm food.
I just love this song because I sang it as a solo and as a tribute to my dad's mom who died in 1998. I am getting married next year and I will have my mom's memory ( our favorite song,Friends, which is also a favorite of mine too) put into the wedding ceremony as my special music and as the bride's entrance in the sanctuary of my church in Belleville, Illinois.
It's so hard not to shed a tear to this beautiful song and sad story. God Bless You Cassie and I pray that God is always with your friends and family. You are safe now. You are with our Awesome God in Heaven.
Rest in peace, Cassie. An angel on earth. Now home in heaven. Maybe it's my Celtic side, or it's the beauty of the song, but the bagpipes in here always leave me in tears. Thank you, Michael W. Smith, for this beautiful song.
I have grown up with this song, and God has spoken through it to me many times, yet I was 21 before I realised that the phrase he sings at the end is 'won't you save me', I always heard 'won't you send me'
It's amazing how people who weren't even there say that she was never asked that. Some people will do anything to bash christians even use this to do it. Trolls have nothing better to do which is disturbing they would sink low enough to use this in such a way. I only pray that if I was faced with a similar situation I would have the same strength she did. God bless her and she's more of an inspiration to more people that we can ever know.
It was in Honor of Rich Mullins. He died the same time Michael made this album. In tribute to Rich this song included his old band "The Ragamuffin Band"
The bagpipes where added as a dedication to cassie because they were her faviorte instrument he contacted her mother and asked if he could add them to this song because he felt like something was missing her mom had said " believe it or not thats cassies favorite instumemt and thus cassies bagpipes was included
I was recently at a concert Michael did at my church. He told the story of Cassie and now watching this video; there aren't enough words in existence to describe it. Yes, I believe. I would like to think I could say that in the face of death, we all would. Cassie, I never knew you, but you are an inspiration of someone who walked a life led by God. You are Christlike. Thank you Michael for sharing her story in such a beautiful way. God bless you and this girl's family.
This song hits me hard thinking of all the lives lost in recent years but the good news is God remains the same and he will see all that have accepted him in heaven one day we will see our loved ones again and what more could we ask for such an amazing promise ❤ 💙 💜 🙏 his love is unfailing its not goodbye its see u later
Its been years since this song first came out, but for some reason I was thinking about it the other day and it made me cry. I thought, as a christian, I don't want to live my life so that her's and other peoples lives that were taken because of their faith was not in vain.
I'm currently in my uni study room listening to this and I actually had to stop writing my essay, hoping no one notice I''m in tears. The story behind it makes me so emotional.

Another neurosurgeon somehow found OUT about this conversation, calls my wife and says, "I've been practicing medicine for 25 years, so I know what works, and what does NOT work, and that procedure by Dr. Vespa will NEVER work!"
My poor wife responded, "I'm CERTAIN you know more about this than I do, but we don't seem to have much of a choice!"
Well, obviously, it DID work, because the person entering this information right NOW is that man. I said, "I'm not sure who she is, but I think I like her a lot."
(Of course, I had to be TOLD that I said this, because I don't remember ever SAYING this!!!)
To hear my story, search RUclips for "Charles Frank Kurtz", then spread word that miracles still happen to this very DAY!
Man the tears flow when those bagpipes hit! Still my favorite video to this day! Powerful song.
A😮he is gaer r any and I love 💕 song t
I love that Micheal dedicated this song to cassie as Jeremy Camp did for Rachel. Both songs honor the true spirit of adversity and the testing of one's faith in the midst of hardship. Both songs echo not being ashamed to proclaim the name of Jesus.
Loved how God used this man...
Although we may ask for it. God doesnt use us. God helps us become who we need to be.

When all your treasures are here, it’s very difficult to die, but when you everyday build up in God’s kingdom and most of your treasures are there, it’s not difficult to leave.
Matthews 6:33
Thanx
I love song song 🎵
Amen some build up some 5are it down if it's built by the antichrist..
I will never not cry when I hear this song.
A little piece of Heaven in your music 🌹
always makes me cry!! We need to every moment for Jesus Christ!
Cape Town live performance. Almost cried when he told the background of the song. Was just breathtaking🙏
What an amazing young woman Cassie was ... an inspiration to all! I can't wait to meet her in Heaven!
Jesus -= all these years, this song still brings me to tears, every time... every time.
Deus abençoe Michael W,suas músicas são lindissimas ouço desde 1990 direto do Brasil
I think of the message of this and it moves me deeply...appreciate your life and make sure you are right with God today...today is the only day we have, we don't know what tomorrow will bring. LIVE TODAY FOR GOD!
Beautiful song, wonderful history. Michael, thank's for your music from the world. God bless you. 😊🙏👏🇧🇷
1st time I heard this song live was at the Franklin Graham crusade at the United spirit arena 1 year after columnbine, that song makes you think how dedicated am I to God
HES A FALSE TEACHER SADLY.
The one who encourages michael to sing ,that isn't religion ,religion is usually dead ideas !to control the fact that men say no to jhvh
You are with our Awesome God in Heaven.
i get teary eyed every time when i listen to this song in my own time it really speaks and tugs at your soul
Amen!!!!! Glory to God! Thank you Michael W Smith!
This message is still true. Every single day.
Rest in peace, Cassie. An angel on earth. Now home in heaven. Maybe it's my Celtic side, or it's the beauty of the song, but the bagpipes in here always leave me in tears. Thank you, Michael W. Smith, for this beautiful song.
Algum Brasileiro aí que ama as músicas do Michael W. Smith? 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Eu vim mais pela Cassie
Eu
Melhor compositor e cantor. ❤👏
Sim... ouvia muito no começo da minha caminhada com Cristo e hj lembrei dessa música e vim recordar.
Demais. São muito top
No matter what did or didn't happen, still a pertinent and timeless song and message, dedicated to a beautiful and godfearing girl taken too soon.
Oh it happened.
Well, taken at just the right time. "For this reason Cassie was born"
@@kevinmcdonald951 It didn't.
What an amazing tribute.
Yes I do beleive and I live for Christ Jesus ..Thank you Michael W.S for singing and witnesing for Christ .God bless all his children!!!!
It's hard to believe this video does not have millions and millions of views.
I have grown up with this song, and God has spoken through it to me many times, yet I was 21 before I realised that the phrase he sings at the end is 'won't you save me', I always heard 'won't you send me'
Still listening to this song years later as we confront horrific gun violence in our country. Let's pray and act together to do what we can to end it.
😊he e😊he is gar he is gaer and I love 💕 z song 🎶
This song was played at my sister's funeral in 2000 then my mom's funeral a year later ♥️
We struggle against principalities, powers and the spirit rulers of this present darkness.
Love the bagpipes.....makes my heart beat stronger in this Irish Girl. Beautiful song and video.
Cassie was Irish? I thought she just liked the bagpipes. I didn't know she was Irish.
It was in Honor of Rich Mullins. He died the same time Michael made this album. In tribute to Rich this song included his old band "The Ragamuffin Band"
+cornerstone Tech, that is wrong, Rich Mullins died 2 years before this song was written, where on earth did you get your info from???
God bless you and this girl's family.
i saw him perform live, he was amazing

Michael Withaker Smith is simply the best gospel singer all over the world. He sings with his soul. Brazil loves you, Smith.
I cried when I heard this song, I can't stop listening to it, the poor kids and teacher that were shot!
So beautiful, so anointed. 🙏🏼❤️
😊he is gaer and Q u I love 💕 song d
This song hits me hard thinking of all the lives lost in recent years but the good news is God remains the same and he will see all that have accepted him in heaven one day we will see our loved ones again and what more could we ask for such an amazing promise ❤ 💙 💜 🙏 his love is unfailing its not goodbye its see u later
She is dancing and enjoying the presence of God right now... She will return with Jesus and all His Holy ones...
Heart touching song. Very moving! Thank God for the song!
Thank you very much Michael (W. Smith)!!!
M W S . What a talented and inspirational man he is.
as Christians following Jesus , this is our time and we are privilege to know that even when we leave here, the next life will be our time as well...
so live every moment *here* as preparation for a greater time *there*! Glory to God forever!
God bless and keep you all! i love you MSW!
I remember Columbine. This is a very healing song. Thank you!!!
I hope that all of the families are doing ok they needed healing and one day they will meet their children in heaven in the near future
Glory to God!
Faced with the question, what would YOU say?
I am a child of the most high God. Would I die for Him. Absolutely! He died for me! HE IS MY LOVE.
One of Michael's best...Glory to God
I love Michael W Smith... because he's best singer in the world and this song inspired my life so much. Praise to his name.
REAL MARTYR RIGHT THERE
In these times, Christians (myself included) really need to prepare to be able to answer the question...to give a reason for the Hope Who is in them.
We need to empty ourselves of ourselves. And let God fill us!
This song made my childhood. I use to sing it in every functions
thank you, there is no death - we are beautifully eternal
