I am a personal friend of Maxine, we've sung together, collaborated on projects together. Yes I say she's most truly underated as a singer. She also still sings gospel . My most favorites Cry together, Funny and All in my mind. She's a beautiful soul. C.L.P
Maxine Brown was a great singer. My parents had her songs playing on their record player, while I was growing up. My personal favs were Oh No Not My Baby, We'll Cry Together. Yes, she was underrated. Thanks for sharing her story.
“ Maxine Brown had a BEAUTIFUL Singing Voice.” My favorite songs by M.B. are (Oh No Not My Baby, and Losing My Touch, and yes, Maxine B. was Very Much So Underrated!!!
Ask me is my absolute favorite!!! I got to meet her in the mid 1970s when she lived on Long Island and found her to be very down to earth and humble. Also still very beautiful.
Yes I thank Maxine 🟤 Brown is underrated, she has a sweet Motown sounding voice, my favorite song by Mrs Brown is All in my mind. Beautiful black 🖤 queen.
Maxine Brown is underrated, but well known in the community where I grew up. I heard the adults talk about her music. I saw her perform once in the 90s and she was everything. She’s also a very attractive lady, even as she aged. One of my favorite songs by her is Babycakes, which went unreleased until recent years. I think Otis Redding wrote it. Glad we can celebrate Ms. Brown whiles she here to smell her flowers.
About 30+ years ago I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Maxine. I was a member of J.T. Carters Crests and I played bass and sang. We got a gig in New Jersey and Maxine, the Capris, the Cadillacs, and the Crests were on the bill. Almost everyone arrived early for the sound check and when it was Maxine's turn came to sing, instead of doing one of her hits, she did a gospel number. The audience consisted of almost all the people that would be performing that evening...all very experienced professionals. When she started singing, you could have heard a pin drop. When she finished her song, everyone of us stood up and applauded. Her voice was amazing. I might mention that she was also beautiful, humble, friendly and very down to Earth. Yes...she was absolutely underrated in her day. I'll never understand how fame and fortune escaped her.
Keyboardist Bernie Worrell was her music director shortly before joining Funkadelic. You can see him at the piano on the clip of her doing Oh No Not My Sweet Baby. ruclips.net/video/UtY1Jj9uppU/видео.htmlsi=3NrAjbY8F4qV8tYX
After hearing her say her father would shoot at her mother, I’m more interested in Ms. Brown story. She sounds so good, I know of 3 songs she sang. Very underrated!!!

I’ve followed her for about forty years, being a UK Northern Soul fan. Let Me Give You My Loving is my favourite of hers ❤

My favorite song was "Ask Me". I think she was underrated probably due to not connecting with the best producers and manager.
