I’m a big fan of the VeeGee STX-3 refractometers personally. They are little pricey, but they are heavy duty and designed to be calibrated with RODI water so you don’t need to worry about buying and running out of calibration solution. I don’t know why they aren’t more popular in the hobby.
Back in 2003 when I started in this hobby everyone used RODI. My refractometer I bought from coralvue and set to zero with rodi. All I heard was to get calibration solution so I got it about 2 yr ago and checked it. Well guess what it read identical to the solution. Hadn’t been calibrated since the first day, only thing I can figure is people use the as hammers also.
Hi Mark. What brand of refractometer do you use and do you sell them?I have to calibrate mine every week which seems too frequent maybe I need a new one.
I got a Hanna sanity checker, it’s been great so far, I do use RO water to squirt it down after every test and then wipe it dry also, I’ve only had it about 2 weeks now but seen some really good reviews as long as it’s taken care of, I have a cheap reefractometer also, that I calibrated using the Hanna checkers result and so far both have been Acurate and not needed recalibration, they both live in their cases tho near the tank away from anywhere with extreme heat or cold that could mess with the settings…. As far as I’m aware any reefractometer shouldn’t need calibrating as much as u say, perhaps the calibrating screw isn’t being done up tight? Or maybe it needs a touch of lock tight to stop it moving… but if it’s really moving enough for error after a week with gentle use daily then I’d be returning it and asking for a new one, sounds like something inside the unit isn’t secured correctly 🤷♂️😬😊
I have been using the smart stir and can’t live without it

This was a great video - I hope you do more
This 'day in the life' type content is really useful for people getting into the hobby.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love these videos

I sell the one from DD. I'll get you a link.

How often do you feed nori?
I’m trying to do better, I’d like it to be daily. It’s more like 3x a week but the tangs could use more.
First🙏🏾🇹🇹🇹🇹
You were ready!
What are you gonna do to get your phosphates low?
Phosphate Rx, like usual.
