Lifting a Backyard 6 Feet to make a Flat Lawn

- Here I help a client lift their backyard almost 6 feet in the deepest spots to level out their backyard in order to make it useable. This took over 17 Triaxle loads of material, but the end product came out great!
Equipment Used:
Excavator: 2022 Bobcat E50 R2-Series
Tilt Rotator: Steel Wrist X06 S40 with Integrated Grab & S40 Quick Coupler
Skid Steer/CTL: 2021 Bobcat T66
Power Rake: Bobcat 5B Landscape Rake
Stump Grinder: MTL Attachments X-series XG24 Stump Grinder
Camera: GoPro Hero 7
Kinda reminds me of your backyard before you made it all pretty..the grading n stuff wow that was a task in fact I think yours was even worse, you & your dad worked your butts off trying to tame it. This yard looks totally different now it's awesome.
I really like it when you get out of the machine and make it all look great with a rake or shovel because that's reality and your keeping it real, nice job as usual

The rotating assembly on that excavator is wild man
Can't believe you're doing all that by yourself! That's a 5 man job...
But if one is all you have, it’s what you use! At least he has a machine. I have to do my clearing by hand.
6/3/24..1st time viewer (👍&Sunscribed) i think you have an Engcon tilt/rotate/finger grab unit on end of yur 'stick'...what a fabulous implement you have...makes for fast & professional workmanship. I (retired, 78) watch lots of YT property maintenance YT'ers..from Andrew Camarata, Jesse Muller, Diesel Creek & others. None of those guys have what you got..Yes they have larger excavators with thumbs, but so far none have the quick attch tilt/rotate/finger grab unit. I think a guy Dirt Ninja has a large Volvo Excavator with Engcon set up. Have heard its expensive to get rigged, new hand controls etc, but looks super efficient for a serious operator with sufficient demand/jobs to afford the 'efficiency'. A+ to you! Also great camera positioning & voice over describing the grade/slope, type of 'fill' designed for this clients 'soft/swampy' back yard. Anxious to see final results & your next project! Ditto. Great vids! I bought a TB257FR and a Takeuchi/Nox tilt rotator and I will be making videos in a few weeks.
I sure hope the home owners look into beefing up the single 4x4s holding up the porch deck. Nice project and work.

That corner post on the deck looks insufficient for the load. Plus it looks bowed. Would suggest to homeowner to beef that support up.

Gotta love that squishy soil, just makes everything so much more fun.
Squishy soil is mud and mud is not fun, not when you are trying to work with it and make things look nice.

Thanks! The E26 always impresses me for its size, but after using the E50 so frequently, it certainly is an eye opener as to how much more powerful the 50 is.
@@CarlsonSonLandscapingLLC I would love to get an e48 or bigger, but that over loads my trailer and starts putting me in CDL territory. I want to avoid that at all costs.
I am at the same crossroads. The E50 maxes out, if not slightly overloads, my trailer. So anything larger, whether its a truck, trailer or machine, requires a CDL. Since I do this part time, its just not worth the headache at the moment.
Quite a financial commitment for the homeowner, surely..

Nice machine and tilt rotator! I operate in sweden where they are on every machine, nice to see it also in america.
From experience, they wear a lot faster if you break/bend with them so decoupling it when using the ripper will increase its life!

Thanks! Yea, Ive been told that they are "designed" to handle ripping, but on the bigger stump jobs I will definitely take it off.

6/3/24..swivel head...I think it's an Engcon?..maybe made in Sweeden. Watch a guy their, Headblolm( spelling?) Does absolutely unbelievable tilt, rotate & grab with that 2-finger claw! All this on a 'quick attach' mounting curv-a-thing on end of 'stick'.

Thanks! I just use a gopro hero 7 on a tripod with a battery packed hooked up to it.

What a transition my friend, they have a ton more useable space, getting out and hand raking and making sure the finished edgaes are nice makes all the difference in the world, it should drain beautiful with all that rock underneath, looks fantastic.
You’ve got a great looking fleet! Any concern with leaving some of the stumps to decompose under the yard in the future? Possible point of settling?
But with all that rock would you not need to worry about the dirt washing through the voids idk I’m still leaning lol

Thanks. All buried public/commerical utilities are in the front. Well power is private and would have to pay to have it marked.

Would have been nice for you to follow up in the same video and show us what it looks like when it has a nice lawn on it.......Oh well I'm sure it looks nice or will look nice, not sure when you did the job, but I"m assuming that wasn't the end of spring as there isn't any leaves on the trees.

It would be possible if the machine had a thumb and you dropped the rotator and went straight to the hitch with the ripper. I used to do that with my bobcat brand ripper prior to having the rotator.

Perfect site for a swimming pool, 6 feet deep and you only needed to dig out another 2 feet and the pipe work and electric cables for a beautiful swimming pool and deck area.
Fun to watch this transformation, amazing to see how you use that machinery like a pair of hands, amazing.

I see that Stilwrist tiltrotator was installed on the machine. What was the price tag? It’s a great attachment. But pricy I heard.
Yep! It was about $45k installed with the grabber, ripper, digging bucket and grading bucket.

Alrighty city boy with his first lawn here lol can someone school me real quick?!?! Is that hay he’s throwing down on top of the seeds?? If so is that better than putting top soil over the seeds and watering it??
I put down the straw overtop of the seed as it helps retain moisture, improves stability from runoff and protects the seed from birds. The seed is all placed on raked topsoil so it beds itself.

Great job. Can you tell me about your mats or where you got them?
They are 1/2" x 4' x 8' poly ground mats (traction on both sides) I got from a second hand seller on Marketplace. I can't recall the brand, but there are lots of them out there.

@@brandonsmith1752 I just got them that job and havent used them again yet due to the jobs ive been on, but they didnt incur any damage with the trucks or machines driving over them that job.

I can't believe you left that eye sore of a dead tree. It diminishes the job.
All you did with all those rocks was make a weed bed, They are hard to keep clean, the brush will be growing there within 2 years briars honeysuckle saplings poison ivy and so on
Just a note the grading blade, when digging, should be at the back of the digger, which will increase your downforce by 30%
Good work but everything that was done here made this backyard worse.. kids going to have a rock wall to fall down now
I discussed that with the parents prior. They were fine with it as, and they ended up fencing in the backyard anyways.
That's some seriously nasty looking fill dirt. I mean, it's supposed to be fill dirt, not fill Stone. How do you expect that crap to compact down and make a solid base?
Who dictates its supposed to be pure "dirt"? Stone is already at max compaction when it hits the ground.
@CarlsonSonLandscapingLLC because when you do a job you use good material, not the worst you can get your hands on. That stuff was 90% large stones, and wood and I saw fabric in one of them. Large round stones cannot compact they will easily slide over themselves with not much force. Also, all those rocks are a snake haven. Maybe it's ok in your area to use such inferior material to do a paying job, but if I had a contract doing a job like that on my property and they thought using material like that was acceptable they would be fired.

Are you a professional at this and do it for a living? Go dig a huge deep hole in your backyard with a excavator and tell me what find underneath it all and mixed in it... No I'm not either, but even I know that building up the ground isn't just dirt, its rocks, stone, cans,, rags, planks, etc mixed in it and buried beneath the main surface... it helps build and stabilizes the surface beneath it... its not good to tell a person that does this for a living how to do the job they're doing especially when you dont do this professionally and consistently and offer no useful tips. Theyve been doing this for years, they know what they are doing... the rocks help with drainage unerneath the soil.... you should go see what larger companies use on their job sites as fill for development lot for houses to be built on, you'd have a fit based on your comment of this small business man here...lol
@lovie2000 you don't have to be a professional to have a strong opinion on how things should be done. It doesn't matter to me what other construction sites are willing to accept. I would not accept fill of that quality on a project I'm paying for or doing. I would expect higher quality material from something I was involved in. If at some point the homeowner wanted to build an extension onto their house that fill would be acceptable to build a structure on. It would have to be all dug up and redone. It's not just thinking about the then and now on a project, you need to consider what might happen in the future. Large stones with dirt mixed in do not offer an acceptable amount of drainage if that is a necessary element. You would have to put down washed gravel weeping pipes and then more washed gravel. Just like what is required to be done at the base of retaining walls. All these factors are why I personally would never accept that quality of fill.
