  • I was hiking in Kings Canyon National Park when I encountered this black bear. The bear charged at me within seconds and miraculously stopped as I tripped over a rock nearly falling onto my back. The bear then pursued me back along the trail for several minutes before becoming interesting in other things.
This happened near the Bubbs Creek / Woods Creek junction of the Rae Lakes Loop on May 31 2022.
This was the 3rd bear encounter that day and will be one I never forget!

Have you ever had a bear encounter like that? What about other wild animal encounters? What would you have done?

Wow! That is amazing video man!!! I've backpacked a lot and not had an encounter like that. Some uncomfortable moose encounters, oddly enough, but not with bear. When you started following the bear across the bridge I was like, are you crazy! lol
    Awesome video, thanks for sharing!

Hey David, I hope you are doing good! By the time the bear was walking across the bridge I had been watching it long enough that I felt "safe" doing that. 😬

That's scary !! Unfortunately that bear is tagged as a problem bear and has probably been put down by now. You certainly handled the situation right, by not panicking and running.

As I see the bear and whip out my phone and almost trip...
Nothing personal but I don't watch these kinds of clips because I backpack. I came here after your Reddit post on your YNP trip and saw you weren't wearing spikes and ran out of fuel. I got curious. Take it for what it's worth but you might want to focus up a little up bro. Especially solo. Eyes on YT isn't that important. And "honestly I don't if you should run from a bear?" I appreciate the honesty, and you seem like a good dude, but come on now. You've gotta' have that knowledge in Kings. You can learn something on every trip. Hope you did. Have a good one.

I was wearing snowshoes the 1st weekend on Pohono trail and I wore spikes the 2nd weekend.
I captured this video of the bear a year before I started the channel. I didnt seek out a bear encounter.
Thanks for your comment. Have a good one!

Do you carry bear spray? Very Scarey!!!

Bear spray is "illegal" in Kings Canyon, Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. Even if it were legal I would not carry it because its unnecessary. There are only black bears in California. If I was in GRIZZLY territory - > I WOULD HAVE BEAR SPRAY.
