Some people say that Ron Burgundy was inspired by Jim Gardner at WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. As of May 2012, WPVI still uses this theme to this day and Gardner is still that station's flagship anchorman after 36 years, doing the 6 PM and 11 PM Action News newscasts. He is considered the dean of Philly TV news. "Move Closer to Your World" has been called "WPVI's national anthem" as they have used it continuously since 1972. WPVI has strongly dominated the ratings books in Philly since the 1970s.
You can see a direct image from up above at 0:35 of what the area at the tennis center (Rod Laver Arena) used to look like before it got built when the site was vacant parklands.
Does anyone else remember when Channel 10 was Channel 0? Another curious thing is that David Johnston, Mal Walden and Brian Naylor, all of whom went on to long careers as news anchors, were all originally Channel 7 presenters. Jana Wendt, a serious, intelligent journalist, way too talented to be a presenter.
Wendt was always just a touch too 'distant', too arrogant, and too full of herself, for my liking. Even her fluffy hairstyle in this clip is way over the top. Wow .. 30 years ago, & doesn't Laurie Oakes look so thin back then. I liked the Ch 10 news theme of those days .. much better than their one today.
Ten eyewitnesses news intros should be like this one. So much upbeat about it
It made me to remember when I was young in Melbourne 1980
Perth boy here. Was my 7th birthday. Frigging hell.

Wendt was only 24 years old in 1980.
There's a heap of Graham Kennedy blankety blanks on RUclips and he always says channel 0
It use to be Eyewitness news, First in Melbourne with David Johnston, Jo Pearson, Rob Gell and the entire Eye witness news team.
Funny hearing that theme being used in another country.
was Laurie Oakes ever young?
ATV 10 - Channel 10 (TEN) (Melbourne, Australia)

I never realised that Laurie Oakes was such a dill even back then. Thanks for the post!
Laurie Oakes will always be a dill. I don't like him at all. I actually call him Laurie Crokes instead of Oakes.
he was a partisan hack from day one. a labor staffer, and had kevin rudd as a cleaner in the early days.
What a load of millennial crap he was one of the most respected interviewers in the country
Even ABC 7 in Buffalo, NY, USA has Al Ham's tune. WKBW, that is.
Anyone else here reckon that Laurie Oakes in this clip reminds them of Penfold from Danger Mouse? (And no, not just because he's wearing glasses...)
OldsVistaCruiser, i watch WPVI every day!
Move closer to your world, my friend!

Piss off she was a newsreader not a burlesque dancer
