Hi Brendan, key factors were mentioned in this video. 1. Relaying on AI and not checking the data outputs i truly agree with. It puts me back when designing was done on a drafting table then CAD and now you can just input the design you need and in seconds you have option....this can somewhat limited you design intervention thus becoming complacent. I do accept the construction industry is changing and with changes some engineers will become the technician and AI the Engineer. However, engineers are vital in the industry where judgment decisions and life experiences are valid. This topic will be an interesting decision for one of your upcoming videos. Stay safe Malik from Barbados
If that AI is a registered engineer that can be prosecuted and be liable to public safety, then yes its a threat to us human structural engineers. But at the moment and possibly the next generation it will just be a tool for us humans
Brendan in the last months of this year and starting of 2025 what would be key skill sets for engineers to land a job with zero experience ?? What will set apart exceptional people from rest..
this can be a hard one, I would look for smaller companies to get some experance up the first job is the hardest. if you get the interview prepare prepare prepare
Imagine a million geniuses getting a structural engineering PhD from Cambridge in a few days. Then imagine each of that million geniuses doing a million human lifetimes worth of structural engineering related research in a few months and each of these geniuses instantly know the results of each of the other geniuses research..... I suspect most people are underestimating the impact AI is going to have.
Yes but it's not just knowing the physics and math. It requires human judgment, creativity, ethical responsibility, and interpersonal skills that AI cannot replicate. Therefore, the human touch is essential in addressing the complex, nuanced challenges of the profession. Plus social skills of building relationships with clients and contractors to understand and meet unique project needs.
@@timmcguire9831 The AI will have no problem with social and emotional aspects of building client relationships. The harsh reality is that it will most likely come down to who or what can do the best job for the least amount of money.
@@domm6589 Eventually it will yes. But at the moment it's way off the kind of critical and creative thinking that comes from actual human experience. AI can't have actual human experience.....yet.
I think if a client knew you were using AI to build a relationship with them you'd probably get dropped very quickly. It would be very disingenuous to do that.

I'm currently utilsing AI for my capstone project and while it definetly has it's drawbacks currently there are definetly a lot of potential for it.
Hi Robert it is getting better, but agree you need to know its drawbacks

Hi Grumpy I agree the next generation will be tools similar to etabs. But will make engineering easier to deliver
I have been thinking about this topic since the launching of Chat GPT. Thanks for making this video Brendan , really appreciate it.
thanks for the support Faisalusman. it is something everyone should look into more
x2
very insightful.
Hurricane Milton pull down Steel and wooden Structural have a lot of design work to rebuilt state of Florida.
Nice video AI. We are Structural Engineers CEng do we need AI for SE ?
Hello sir, what is the best AI tool for the structural engineers from your point of view?
Structural engineering is such a sunset profession and industry.
What does that mean? A sunset profession?

Sir do you earn 120k dollars a year as a structural engineer now in Australia? Plz reply. Thanks a lot.
Senior structural engineering get paided this much in Australia.

@@timmcguire9831 I agree. Though I suspect that stage isn't going to be as far into the future as many people would assume.
