- The Green Tea plant, Camellia sinensis makes the black, green, oolong, and white teas. It depends on which leaves you use, and how you prepare the leaves.
New leaves emerge in July (North America). Beautiful white flowers develop in October-November. It's an EVERGREEN - she has leaves all winter long.
NO pest or disease in our urban organic garden. And, NO watering, 1 to 2 years after planting!
Varieties of Green Tea plants have the same botanical name, Camellia sinensis. But you'll find different common names. I believe there are subspecies.
1. Korean Tea Seedling
2. Sochi Tea Tree
We grow both!

Soil: they thrive in rich, well-drained soil. Somewhat acidic soil is optimal.
Size: 8 to 10 feet if leaves are not harvested. However, Green Tea plants are no more than 4 feet.
Zone: zone 7 (cold tolerance; I've read that zone 6 is possible)
Oolong tea
Oblong is a shape
@@augustsmith9553 ;). it's still a silly word but i'm tracking. thank you ;)
I love oblong tea😂

Thx for stopping by 🐞
Ooo long
dumb name ;). thank you: OOOO-long. ridiculously simple name; a little embarrassing; thanks!
Need one of those
Ive been trying to get mine to grow for 6 months and its still only 8” tall.
I left it in a pot until 2 months ago then i put it in raised bed. No growth.
I planted it next to comfrey.
Any suggestions?
@xkitchick sorry to hear the trouble. your zone, partial shade and soil are factors. by ?dumb luck I found a 'sweet spot' on the property.
BUT, i can attest that the young ones do grow slowly. my three young ones (16" high) grow slow and now i have seedlings and they're growing ridiculously slow. that's my $0.02, and i hoped it helped. plz subscribe!

@@xkitchick I think they lean towards acidic soil, and like part shade (zone 7). I used Woodchips from conifers (eg, pine tree) and pine tree rotted logs and stuff.
Mines surrounded by a foot of wood chips I used logs keep the chips directly off of the base by about a foot around, gave it one through watering, the promptly forgot it existed for nearly a year. Seriously, camellia’s thrive on neglect if you fuss over them they will died. Good soil with plenty of organic material and then just trust the process. The first year I went back and she had grown much on top but was healthy, she was developing her roots the 2nd year she took off.
@@Cangeltibon you ... absolutely ... nailed it! everything in your comment is spot-on. yup, they're slow out-the-gate; by yr 2, they begin growing well. great soil; woodchips; & little care / no fuss. i know for sure you're growing camellia 🥳🐞
