A professional will never blame his tools, he will just go with what he is given and use it to create a masterpiece. Well done sir. One could see throughout that you were much more at ease with the Eclipse but was able to show us that even with the cheapest of airbrushes it is possible to do some really nice stuff.

Another excellent video, I always learn more with your videos and wait like a kid standing on line at a candy store for your next video to pop up. Honestly, I forgot you were doing a comparison test and got lost in watching your techniques. Here is a rub to consider on the comparison. You have so much skill and experience that you automatically compensate for the differences without even thinking about it. Like all great artisans, the tool you use to create your masterpiece can be a beat up $2 yard sale special and you would make it spray like a dream just on skill alone. I have personally witnessed a musical genius or two guitar players take the cheapest guitars made in Indonesia and make them sound like a middle-high cost studio guitar. Just for grins, an interesting challenge would be to do the same test with a couple of your intermediate students, to see how well they can control the two airbrushes using the same parameters. Great, great video once again Carsten. 👏🏻 🙌🏻👊🏻💀✌🏻👍🏻

That's awesome. I bought an Iwata replica made in China that I'm very happy with. It's the exact copy of the Iwata that you're using. It came with the airbrush, quick connect air hose, air/water filter, 3 different size needles, and 3 different tips all for $40!

I would be interested to see a comparison where you dial in the air pressure and paint mix. We (or at least I) buy things with potential in mind. apart from that, keep up the great work. It’s inspired me to pick up an airbrush again and try to progress past the beginners stage.

I've got one of those cheap red ones, also bought just to see how it was. Worked pretty well, but once I resharpened the needle with a Sharpenair, it was even better. Easy worth a few dollars like you said, for base coats and what not.

Definitely needed to see this, get so lost when using stencils like that lol I make it more difficult than needs to be and get confused where and what to paint but this helps me tremendously! Got a couple of requests for future videos, that is if you need ideas for content lol
    1) a quick lesson on using reference photos. And use for references NOT copying the image lol thats somethin I’m am trying to learn bc I’ve always been a “copier” I find a image and copy it. And that’s super easy to me bc its all I’v ever done with my oil paintings and pencil black/grey. Just some tips and tricks would be great info.
    2) Letters. Most common fonts and shadowing them, be cool to do letters on fire (yes I love fire lol)
    3) A “rendering” of a car, like a sports car (Lambos, Ferrari, Challenger ect.. or American muscle cars. Not saying do each but just naming cool cars off lol)
I’m just saying stuff I think is cool and not necessarily askin for those videos. You probably have a whole bunch of content you are gonna do and I know you also have to run a business and teach your classes lol jus thought I’d throw this stuff out there, thanks for these great tutorials 👌🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Excellent! Here is a bucket of honesty. With a real well made airbrush, I don't find myself compensating with little rough finish of the action, needle and needle tips! These do need to be overcomed with the less expensive airbrushes! Not impossible to do. But keep that in mind. The other thing is the confidence I feel using a top shelf airbrush! 70% of my airbrushing is not art! But 30% is very nice art on glass. I find working on glass refines my skill, even though I mostly razor blade it off in the end. Want to save money? Work on glass. You may not get to keep the original, but you can save great pictures for your portfolio if you want! Best regards to you all! Specially to the artist for sharing many years of his experience with us all!

Yeah...i believe there are differences in performance specially in freehand applications...it can boost the artists skills dramatically...but still the final outcome is still based on the artists ability and steady hand....great demonstration and explanation though....👍👍👍

I personally don’t see why you wouldn’t just dial in both the pens to what is optimal for both. When a person uses a tool, they try to optimize its use. By handicapping the eclipse, you give an unfair and inaccurate comparison. That aside, love watching your videos. Your tutorials and guides have been most useful in learning the craft! Thank you!

What sticks out to me the most is how tight the Iwatas spray pattern is compared to the cheap airbrush. Looking at the comparison at the first stage i noticed the cheap airbrush seemed to have a lot more overspray which gave the artwork a more hazy look. Not that it can't be used for something or is a bad thing that a skilled artist couldn't use, but still.
The biggest takeaway for me in this video is that 90% of the quality of your airbrush artwork comes from your mastery of the skills needed to create the artwork and not the quality of the equipment (That may be more obvious to some more than others). It is not like the equipment has no impact, that is not the point because of course the equipment is a contributing factor but no amount of quality equipment can take away the value of your skill level, as he so eloquently points out in this video.
As a beginner within the world of airbrushing this gives me more motivation to elevate my skill level to a point where i would actually need to buy better equipment in order for me to evolve my skills even further.

Enjoyed the video thank you, but surely as a comparison it depends. I would rather see what out off the box results you can get for your money , ( buy good by once ) as you stated Eclipse is very underrated for the price, most people would top out on this air brush. I normally dial me Eclipse in for fine line's ( if the painting doesn't require to many ) before getting my customs out. It would have been nice to show what detail you could get out of the Eclipse at the end of the video, just might save some buying more than once.🤔

I’ve watched a number of your tutorials and I love your work mate, I’ve never tried airbrushing, but it’s always intrigued me. I’m considering buying some kit and I’m stuck on which airbrush to start with. Iwata seems to be the brand I want. So could you guide me as to which model/ needle size to purchase as a starter?

For someone who might pick up their airbrush once every few months, I can't see paying extra for the Iwata. Yes is Santa wanted to get me an Iwata I would not complain. I get the quality difference. Also the HUBEST model does have replacement parts available. There is also the master airbrush brand as well. Both have parts and you can get them on Amazon Prime, so there is that as well.

May I ask what compressor you use is it a big one like a 3hp as a garage would use or one of the 1/3hp small motors that bounce all over the pace and any advice on water traps were to fit on brush or comp

I bought the cheaper one after watching this video , but I chose the upgraded one with all 3 needles and nozzles (.2 -.3-.5) and 3 different cup sizes also a Mac-valve that’s apparently for only decoration ( doesn’t function at all ).
It does a good job but the build quality is very poor. It came with the.2mm installed and when I took it apart for a deep cleaning. As soon as I touched the nozzle with the wrench ( not even getting the wrench in the 2 cutouts for loosing) the nozzle broke in half. Must have been over tightened from the factory??
Keep up the great work and I look forward to all your videos! Cheers!

To be tottaly honest I found Master airbrush wich is cheaper version of Iwata better performing than expensive Paasche. I really mean it. Most expensive of them with fine detail Master G 33 i think costs way lower than any of those. And it doesn't breaks down, I never took cap of the needle because I don't have spare parts around.
    Hope this helps.

You make this look very easy you used a skull that you used to outline the skull in white and then you used black I dont think that there is a difference between them two airbrush painting yes one is cheap and the other is expensive but the expensive one you can do more with then the cheap airbrush painting but you can make anything look gorgeous you have Experience how would I get stenciled of skulls and the things you use from Canada Toronto Ontario Etobicoke North

  • @kwong7058

You make that look so easy.
The iwata at 0.35mm seems to have a more focus/ sharper spray compared to the 0.2mm no-brand airbrush.
I personally find the up-down travel of the trigger a bit short on eclipse for air, one needs the gentlest of finger pressure. My Olympos is milder, thus better for an amateur like me.

First I want to say that your knowledge of the art of airbrushing is impressive
The only thing that Chafes me Raw is when I hear you and other so called “expert” use the the word CHEAP. Painters it’s “cheap” paint to name brands with “experts” in equipment it’s cheap brand compared to Iwata, badger, and all the other name brand equipment crap.
As a veteran I learned weapons, name brand over “cheap” weapons. Tools name brand over “cheap” brands, etc., etc.,.
What I’ve come to learn is this
IT IS NOT THE EQUIPMENT ITS THE PERSON using whatever equipment you want to mention can do just as good and sometimes better. You yourself have PROVED THIS.
Your work is incredible using name brand or the “cheap” one.
But of course you HAVE to point out insignificant things to compare “cheap” to your sponsors one.
Say what you want and what’s others will but I wonder if you weren’t getting paid by the sponsor if you’d say the same?
Being a wanker you probably would.
It’s all just Learning the gear, maintain it practice and it can do As Good if Not BETTER than any name brand.
I know people in your position who are probably sponsored by whatever product HAVE TO SAY “this is better/best.”
The are a number of videos of people using “cheap” gear do better and yes even better than you.
It’s frustrating to say the least but just Pathetic.
And Every video I’ve seen from you, you just have to say Cheap.
The gear is all made by cheap companies in some third world country like ALL brand name clothes, shoes and others shite.
All OVER PRICED cause of some wankers name.
You teach well, At least stop saying cheap, least expensive or some other word. You seem intelligent enough to have quite an extensive vocabulary, Seem being the key word
    It’s All Crap.
