- Have you ever wondered how to teach students with Down Syndrome? In this video I am going to share with you some ideas I have as well as some resources. I am a former public and private school teacher; I currently homeschool 4 of my kids as well as my youngest daughter with Down Syndrome, and I do homeschool evaluations for families in the state of Florida.
This video is a collaboration with a group of other Moms who are raising and homeschooling children with disabilities. Each mom has a unique perspective on what their child needs, and, in this playlist, they will share it with you.

Learned helplessness is a great way to describe it. I have witnessed this with a few of my special needs kids when they were little.
The long-term memory is mind-blowing. Both of my boys can remember things I've long forgotten.
HI! Homeschool mom of a beautiful daughter with DS. We used this program when she was younger, she's 10 in two weeks and reading level four, almost at chapter books! This program was our foundation along with Baby Signing Time, and it really helped. Our baby LOVES reading, she will spend hours doing it.
Thanks for sharing!!
I thank the good Lord 🙏 for the training I have being a CERTIFIED HOME HEALTH AIDE. I work with children and adults. I got my training from my NURSES.
I appreciate how practical and relatable you are and I think others parents will too.
This video gives me so much hope! Thank you!
So happy to learn have reading books on science topics(The life cycle of a butterfly, bees, farm animals etc) very easy to introduce for beginning stage.
This is an amazing playlist of resources you have put together for parents.
Looking forward to watching the Happy to Learn video you will be posting. I plan on using it this school year with my son.
I appreciate this so much. Thank you!
I adopted my daughter with Down Syndrome . She is 2 and loves books. I’m wondering what is the best age to start the program?
She attends therapy twice a week. It’s a school type environment and they have just started to socialize her with other children with Down Syndrome. The program she is in includes Speech, Physical, and occupational therapists. The ultimate goal is to prepare them for school. I am a retired nurse and plan on homeschooling her.
Books are always a plus for the little ones. Just keep reading to her.
Very helpful!! Thanks so much ♥️
Very helpful video. Thank you 🙏
Can't wait.....
Very great video!! Tha k you so much for inviting me to join in this collab!
No problem! Hope to do something again in the future!
Sorry
I found the information at the end of video
Thanks thanks thanks
Hi, I have been watching and following your videos since my 4yr old(ds) was a baby, you really are a role model and inspirational to many especially those of us with little one's with ds. I'm from Nigeria, please how can I get the book on how to teach children with down syndrome. Thank you.
Ahh thanks! The book is on Amazon. Can you order from Amazon?
Thanks for this video
I have a child with down syndrome and I am thinking about hommeschooling for him
Question! What sight words did you start with?
Name of family members, I see Dad, I see mom, I see dog, I see cat, I see boy, yes and no
Can you recommend me any curriculum for special education???
What specifically? It really depends on their needs. I do know Learning Language Arts Through Literature is a good one that is very gentle.
My son is 5 with DS , he Is really behind :( He doesn't like to be around other kiddos.. it is so hard 😫
That is very difficult. Do you have an OT for him?
@@LivingWithEve Yes He is in speech/OT at school at and we go to a place as well for therapy. Anytime he's around kiddos he cries, he's been like this since he was 2 or younger. :( praying he'll come along. I'm going to look into Ms. Browns website. Thank you!
Hey there! I tried to contact you via the email listed for FL evals and it kicked it back to me saying it wasn't valid. I'm a fellow FL homeschool and my son was just diagnosed with moderate Autism. Was hoping you could shed some light on some things, maybe point me in the direction of some resources. The only one I have found is that scholarship in FL, which I have applied for. I've been looking at different curriculums and resources and am just so lost because his needs are so extremely different than my girls.
Here’s my email, it’s easier to communicate that way. Lei101978@hotmail.com
How old is he? Is he reading?
@@LivingWithEve I just sent you an email!
