Another base was griefed last night, after I had completed this video. I originally stated that it was simply people being foolish by posting pictures and getting insided, but something else may be at work here.
There is no new exploit. This is simply Jared2013 saving coordinates for a long time so he could perform "29bases29griefs", as he calls it. Basically, he wants to grief one base every day for a month with some friends, usually slappnbadkids or Jumpinqq. How did he recieve these coordinates? 1. Every single base he has griefed so far is a group base. What do members of bases do? They leak coordinates. Especially since groups seem to be inviting newfags like they are nothing. (I actually griefed Haven's base earlier today, after being lended an account that was in the base). 2. The map exploit, don't know much about this, but apparently coordinates can be received through maps of bases. 3. The normal coordinate exploit, don't show terrain, yadda yadda yadda. I asked Jared if he had a specific way of getting coordinates a few days ago in chat, and he said "I have my ways." Now, I understand he was trying to be mysterious and all (which, quite frankly, gives me cancer), but I doubt he has any new exploit he's using to find bases. He is just simply griefing all the bases he has coordinates to. Combined with all the other irrelevant griefs, it's no wonder people think there is a new exploit. But, there is not. Case closed.

lol, no there were many of us that stayed here. Fit did a shit job of covering this base; we had a player "town", legato let anyone stay here tbh. We just had "rules"; like certain areas we werent allowed. The base wasnt very far from spawn, and only 6k off the x highway dude; it wasnt "hidden" at all lol, jared knew about it for ages and never touched it.
How to protect a base: 1. Hide bedrock. bedrock generates the same in all worlds, so it isn't that hard to find 2. Hide natural terrain. This kind of depends on the version the terrain is generated, but using new terrain is always safer (distance from spawn), but more easily recognized by programs. 3. Put all flowers in pots. ChromeCrusher demonstrated that the offsets within a block that flowers can be placed reveals coordinates 4. Disable block rotation in your resource pack. Natural block rotation on blocks like netherrack, stone, and lilypads can give away your position. 5. Don't build near an axis, or invite anyone you don't trust 100%.
I can kinda see the appeal in it. On the one hand, you're tearing apart something beautiful, but at the same time, you'll be going down in history, you'll be remembered so long as the thing you destroyed is also remembered. It's utterly selfish, but still...
Marlowe Oliver somehow, the impermanence makes it all the more beautiful. And all the more tragic when it happens. Something about the knowledge that it all can get destroyed makes it so much neater. Like it’s alive and actually vulnerable and active, like a real house or monument. Not just a sterile art gallery, that you find a novelty for a few minutes and just forget about. I’ve seen absolutely gargantuan and well made builds in creative mode, but they often lack the lived in feel of a based that was actually saw use in survival. Between all the signs, quality of life aspects, and attention to detail put in a real survival base, something like this is infinitely special and has a certain aura about it. The fact that we can feel so much emotions about it being greifed proved the fact that it was worth caring about in the first place ;)

I would take this quote spoken by Brad Pitts character Achilles in the film Troy and apply it to what I find appealing about 2B2T bases in this regard. "Achilles: I'll tell you a secret. Something they don't teach you in your temple. The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again."
