The production team did a good job casting. The characters look similar younger and older versions of themselves and passable enough as siblings.

The end of seasln 2 made me cry when it showed his friends while they were all kids, it hit me deep, as much as i love big bang theory i was afraid if young sheldon will reach my expectations, boy i was wrong to doubt, young sheldon has been amazing, the whole cast is just perfect

In TBBT from season 1 onwards family members of sheldon and sheldon himself have mentioned a family cat and a dog. However in young sheldon Missy constantly complains of why they cant have a pet in the house due to sheldon's phobia.

It was accurate until they mentioned bill nye as being revered. A genius in his own mind. The omnipotent legend of intellect that has only a degree in engineering. Funny how he is an expert on climatology without even knowing anything about it.
Only a degree in Engineering.......like Engineering is divorced from Science....one of the things that did piss me off about TBBT was the continual putting down of Engineering. I know what my better half had to study to achieve 4 year Mech Eng degree and what I've had to study in Biomechanics. You remember the episode when Sheldon had to teach and Howard was taking his class? That question about Poiseuille's Law? That's an undergrad level question, same as the Young's Modulus question - Howard wouldn't have got his Undergrad, let alone a Master's if he couldn't understand undergrad material.

out-of-universe spoken, it is a retcon. She was the first other ''smart-kid'' Sheldon every met and actually knew things he did not yet. Logically spoken, Sheldon from TBBT would have referenced Paige at least a few times. I would imagine him having done so in the company of Penny or Amy. ''There was this girl in east-texas.....''
In-universe spoken: Last time Paige appeared in the show, she had the pink strain in her hair and acted all bad-kid like. breaking rules. In that episode she said she didn't want to be super smart anymore and be a normal kid. So it can be assumed that Paige stopped focussing on a scientific career path al together and went on doing different things.

Dr. Sturgis is much more of a retcon than Paige. He dated his Meemaw and was the first to understand how Sheldon's mind functions. Dr. Sturgis has been established to be pretty much an integral part of his childhood.
They can fix this retconby having Dr. Sturgis do something crazy enough for Sheldon to banish him from his life basically.... hence we never heard adult Sheldon even mentioning him.

I think Paige's mom is the woman that George Sr. Cheated with. That is why she is not ever mentioned.

Still, this version of George Sr. doesn't seem the cheating type to me. Perhaps if he's drunk and/or Paige his mom seduces him or something.

I also like how Penny and Missy are so similar in personalities. It totally explains why Sheldon is so fond of Penny.
1. George Cooper Jr. taught Sheldon to tell believable lies - details. This has been referenced on TBBT several times, e.g., s1e10.
2. Sheldon told his dad that he would address him in his Nobel Prize acceptance speech. And he did, in the finale.
3. He hated geology because the girl broke his heart by telling his mom that she was babysitting him.
He has a love-hate relationship to geology. He decides that physics is so far above geology that it would be embarrassing to be known to work with a geologist although he was enticed by the prospect. Then he got rejected by geologist Burt Kibbler in favor of Leonard when he went crawling back. And another time he is mortified to find a geology text book next to him in bed. Yup, love-hate.

I’d love to see the childhood versions of the whole group from the Big Bang theory sporadically scattered throughout the season following the plot line:” before the bang”.
I'd love to see that too. But season 3 it's almost over and no signs of the other child versions of them has been shown.

The voice over of older Sheldon has repeatedly suggested that Amy and Sheldon have kids in the future I think it was in S3 and maybe S1
Season 1 when he drafts his first contract for memaw and Dr. Sturgis. He mentioned doing it for his kids too.
The voice over of Sheldon didn't mention Amy. It just said his wife. Sheldon and Amy could have divorced and he married another woman who bore his child. Perhaps Page.

Well, I didn't notice any of them, but maybe that's because I never saw Young Sheldon. I don't think it was ever available here in my country.
Would love to see a spin-off showing the rest of the group as kids. Problem there being is four new shows is unfeasable and one show with four storylines would get a bit confusing.
In TBBT, we find out Sheldon's dad dies when he's 14 and he goes off to Germany to learn. Assuming YS makes it 3 more seasons, I wonder how they'll handle that

It's called casting from a pool of actors/actresses the particular show is familiar and comfortable with. For example, the actor who played Frasier Crane's father (the late John Mahoney), retired cop, Martin Crane in Frasier actually portrayed a different character in Cheers as a jingle songwriter hired to write the Cheers bar radio commercials. Ditto for various actresses in Two and a half men who played Charlie's dates (Judy Greer as Herb's sister, Charlie's college age gf) ended up playing different characters as Walden's ex wife, department store/fashion designer girlfriend....etc after Ashton Kutcher took over for the fired Charlie Sheen. It seems series creator, Chuck Lorre likes to recycle actors/actresses for his various shows (not Cheers and Frasier of course).
After watching Young Sheldon it's hard for me to watch TBBT episode when Meemaw visits Sheldon, I cant imagine she's the same character. Another episode I almost cried was when Sheldon goes to Caltech with his dad and imagine how it's be to have lunch there.
yeah. the characters of mom, and big brother and sister are spot on. meemaw is like totally different person.
Watching TBBT u'd think Sheldon's father was an inatentive, uncaring father, violent father who smoked in the house and regularly consumed his driving whiskey and made his underage kid(Georgie) drive him around if he was too drunk to do it himself.... but on Young Sheldon he's is the most loving, caring, sweet man. They need to address this in future episodes. He got a bad rap
That’s not true. I think you might be mixing up Leonard‘s childhood bully and Sheldon‘s dad who is technically played by both actors.
George Sr only drank beer on Young Sheldon. And it was Meemaw who had George Jr buy beer for her while she was getting over her breakup with Dr. Sturgis.

I've wondered about this myself. According to TBBT history, George Sr becomes a hardened, womanizing drunkard before dying when Sheldon was 14. On YS they've made him a fairly likable character. Depending on how long YS runs, they're either going to rewrite TBBT history (ret-con like on soaps) or George's personality is going to be making some hard turns pretty soon. It will interesting to see what they choose.
@@debsmith7445 They could give him (George) one hilariously hard day full of misunderstandings (small snippets of various behaviours totally misinterpreted by Sheldon). This could be done in maybe 2 episodes. This could get them out of the corner they've put themselves in.

He was named after Leonard Nemoy. Not his friend.

Since Young Sheldon aired, I’ve been looking for how Sheldon became the man we know. The first thing I remember is how he first gave a hot beverage to a friend needing a friend to talk to. The last clues were him going to collage and him first interest in comics, sa-fi and superheroes.
I always wanted them to show Leonard's and Bernadette's siblings.

When Sheldon surprisingly reveals a great knowledge about (am) football as he's bonding with Bernadette's dad during her & Howard's Thanksgiving dinner, we learn he got it from having to watch sports with his dad before being allowed doing his homework. I reckon it would be awesome if we get to see how that took place :)

Not quite the same thing, but there is a reference to Blossom in Young Sheldon, who was played by the actor who plays Amy in the Big Bang Theory could.
There was also a reference to MacGyver , Mayim Bialik's first TV role where she plays a little companion to the titular hero , Scientist- Improviser kinda guy .
I feel sorry for the professor, even in death he cant get away from Sheldon.
Another reference is his love for comic books an episode reveled how Sheldon got addicted to comics and in some other episodes we saw his favorite place, Radioshack!!!

No he’s ten in season three.in the episode when he and his father are offered places at a college he states that he didn’t go to college until a year later at “the ripe old age of eleven”
He actually says he saw his dad cheat on his mom at 13 so it might be a bit.
I don't think I've ever seen or heard anyone make mention of the interesting fact that young Sheldon's mother Mary is played by Zoe Perry who is the daughter of Laurie Metcalf who plays adult Sheldon's mother. I noticed the remarkable resemblance and looked it up myself.
Their voices are so similar, too.

@@brittknee3758 Of course he is/they are! How else would the writers be able to 'explain away' the fact that the two actors use different hands? It is a easy but clever solution to a hiring glitch. Ambidexterity seems just like something Sheldon would pursue & accomplish "just so he could say he had". It goes along with his "quirkiness" perfectly.

I think Professor Proton’s character is modeled on Mr. Wizard (Don Herbert) a show that was on NBC from 1951-1972. I used to watch it on Saturdays.
Sheldon & George Sr. go to California to visit the university where Sheldon will work in the future. At the end of the episode they're standing in the cafeteria where the guys on BBT have lunch. There's a short dialogue about how he'd fit in there. Then the camera pans out to see the familiar cafeteria from the BBT. it was very sweet.
That ep of YOUNG SHELDON made feel so awful for kids going through that type of loneliness in childhood. As was as this was, my brain near shut down when Sheldon said the advice his mom gave him is the same advice he and Amy would give to their kids, that made me leap off my chair and have me false hope for THAT's season 12 ending.

What about sheldon’s father? In TBBT it was conveyed that he cheated on Mary and sheldon caught them which was the reason of his iconic knocks and also his father died quite young.
In the episode of TBBT Georgie told Sheldon that after George died Sheldon went off to college anyway leaving Missy and Georgie to help the struggling Mary.
In big bang theory sheldon said he had not had his appendix removed. But in young sheldon he has it removed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Annie Potts as young Sheldon meemaw. She's a terrific actress. Here's a fact that absolutely flabbergasted me: Laurie Metcalf plays Sheldon's mother on The Big Bang Theory. The actress who plays young Sheldon's mother is Zoe Perry, LAURIE METCALF'S 36 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER.

Did you remember when Sheldon said: "That girl pregnant." He was being un polite, and his dad and mom was in the principles office, I think... The principal called Sheldon's dad was George, the father of Shelly, is called Bob not George.

I love how in Young Sheldon, Sheldon's fashion style is wearing a shirt and tucking it in his pants. And in TBBT, he almost always wears long sleeves and tops it with a T-shirt.
He also would only wear certain kind of pants that his mother mailed to him.
It makes me think how Sheldon's father George would no doubt have been good friends with Bernadette's father Mike Rostenkowski!
