  • The Skagit BU-199RS yarder is not the simplest thing to move around. These machines were constructed to spend their entire life on logging roads, and a lot of extra caution not only to bridges but also to the road body itself has to be taken everywhere you want to one-piece move them. Weight of this machine with lines and fuel is 245,000 lbs.
Axle load on each of the steering axles is 57,000 lbs and on each of the two driven axles under the hoist 69,000 lbs...

Machine which actually consists of tower, undercarriage, and yarder were built as a unit by Skagit Corporation. The BU 199 was in fact the largest yarder ever built by the company. In the late 60s when this machine was constructed Skagit Corporation was in fact a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Bendix Corporation, the reason for the blue-and-white paint scheme. Prior to that Skagit machines were originally painted orange and later went to yellow and black. The tower was probably a T-110 HD.
