Wow, Gavin refreshingly candid about how a musician might not enjoy playing a song on stage, or even hating it as time goes on. Musicians are great actors in the way they put up an excited and energetic performance of a song they've played 1000 times in their career because, much as they hate it, they know they are fulfilling the dream of people in the crowd. Yes "Roundabout" comes to mind. I've seen them play it in all its forms since the 70's and I still love it, but they must be dying inside!

The first question about time signatures is really a good question for musicians. Great musicians who write in odd times tend to just feel music in different time. The main thing I’d say is just write what feels good and don’t inhibit yourself at all to feeling a groove or structure. Just sculpt pieces of music until it feels like it works really. That’s the root of what makes progressive music so amazing and liberating. It’s really great and capable players/composers just experimenting.

You're a lot famous in Istanbul/Turkey it is actually your top 3rd monthly listener, but you've never came here still. Mr. Wilson came once before on his solo tour and that is just it. Istanbul wants to welcome you.

I have all Porcupine Tree available. In a way I consider you filling the gap left by Pink Floyd. I was frustrated years ago with the music about and was at a record store and they let you listen before buying. I listened to some of Inabsentia and immediately had to have the whole catalog. Cheers guys! From, the Rockies of Utah.🍻

Love the My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Cocteau Twins shoutout. My favourite Porcupine Tree moments are the more spacey shoegazey textures they often delve in to

"I think the answer to that is 'Closure/Continuation'" - classic comeback to that last query; nicely done :D I also loved Gavin's answer to that query about the odd metres; it was easy enough to for all levels of (non-)musician to understand yet it didn't patronise in the slightest. An erudite trio of gentlemen.

What Steven said about people engaging with music and how it's difficult now with how much we all struggle with Attention Deficits due to all the online social media internet stuff really resonated with me.
I remember 20 years ago, how I could listen to an album and be totally zoned in the whole album, noticing all the little details with ease. I don't have that now. I have to consciously wrestle and hold my attention on music to achieve that now and, even at that, my mind will wander so easily, unless I really focus. As a result, I can burn out on long albums.
One thing I've been doing to help is having the lyrics on screen, especially the Genius website, which actually shows where the Verse/Chorus/Bridge is, rather than just listing the words. There's something about being able to track the 'shape' of the song and the structure in my mind that helps me appreciate and follow and stay focused. Also, just reading the lyrics helps focus my attention by having something else to focus on that's still connected to the song itself.
Once I'm very familiar with the song structure I can follow it without the lyrics and appreciate it more.
Thankfully, I've been a music listener for long enough to show an album respect and give it attention and invest time in it, where as I think a lot of kids, will switch a song off unless it's constantly jumping out and flashily catching their attention.

I'm probably an odd fan in that I pay close attention to the writing/lyrics. It is modern poetry and PT has never been disappointed in that regard. It's something the British bands have always been good at over the years-Yes, Pink Floyd, the Who, - all the great bands had great writing and PT follows in that proud tradition.

In one of your concerts a couple of years ago I asked the question "Will Porcupine Tree ever get back together" and everyone just laughed at it and it got skipped over. Needless to say, I'm very glad to see this!
