I never read this storyline, but just from this video it reminds me a bit of the first "Armor Wars" where Stark went on a quest to reclaim all his stolen tech, even crossing a few lines along the way. Stark's quest seems less selfish though with the basic difference being the justifications: Stark taking reponsibility for all the damage his tech might do in the wrong hands v. Superman feeling justified defending himself because of all the good he does and will do.
That was a different order of stupid, though, since, even though I don't remember it being overtly said, when he effectively erased / remotely destructed applications that used his tech, he hit a lot of friendly/innocent users. There was no indication anyone using the Guardsman armour was doing so in any anti-societal way, for example, and some of those people were likely in harms way when it was shut down. And IIRC, he ended up faking his own death to avoid the legal consequences.
@@nctpti2073 IIRC, Stark's reason for feeling justified in destroying all copies of his armor technology was that all of it was copied from data stolen from him, and he hadn't patented it specifically because he didn't want just anyone to be able to build things based on it (I liked the allusion to that in the first Iron Man film: "our proprietary repulsor technology").
@@arcadiaberger9204 It wasn't all stolen from him, though. The Spymaster did steal data from him, but Stane's hostile takeover of Stark International was legal, even if his attacks on Tony leading up to it were not. Bought is not the same as stolen. And that does not change the fact that, to remove his tech from the Guardsmen, he had to break into a prison, which also implicated Rhody and Steve Rogers (Cap), endangered all of the guards and led to a prison breakout. Meanwhile, Tony, himself, stole ideas from any villain he took down. One of his unibeam designs was based on the Unicorn's inventions, among other such IP thefts.
It would've been better if it was made apparent that clark was also thinking about the other kryptonians like powergirl, supergirl and conner and making the world safer for them.
Just a thought, what if the Kryptonite eventually corrupted the sun causing its rays to effect Superman in different ways. I think that would be an interesting dark universe story.
The fact Kryptonite just sort of shows up on demand has always been silly. So to that extent, the silly aspects of this just sort of fit right in, lol.
Lana going heel is very interesting and would love to see a continuation of that plot point. Also i love how the kryptionite engagement ring kept coming back in your head, so many questions indeed 🤣
About Magic and DC: Iremember a few of tidbits during my reading of DC comics. 1) Zantana was originally science-based as a branch the Homo Magi species of humans. 2) Batman explained to Alfed how Deadman wasn't an actual ghost, but a human tied to the Quantum field. 3) Neil Gaimen once wrote DC rules to Magic. The basic premise was that you either walked in the world of science or magic: once you chose, that is the world you tread. Magic always had a cost. And the last thing: Magic users were never going to be happy. 4) As of Doomsday Clock: Magic is the left over energy from creation: Similar to older unused code in a computer program. Only those that are on the outliers of creation can tap into it “rewriting reality”
First off, I love that intro for the Superman/Batman movie. It was so unexpected that I had to pause because I was laughing. Second, ruthless Lana is something I didn't know I wanted. Kind of wished it was her choice.
Really? Honestly it just make her seem like an ass, especially since the kryptonite gas would've doomed the human race and all life on earth, literally contradicting her whole point for doing it. If it was her choice she would look even dumber than she already did.
Frankly, I could never understand how the smallest chip could weaken and kill him as fast as a huge chunk of the stuff. Years ago, DC established he could melt it with his x-ray vision and make it harmless or blow it out of range with his super/- breath. Instead of at least trying to fight it, he collapses like a rag doll, moaning and groaning. He is easily mind controlled and defeated by foes he should have been able to rip apart in seconds. I know they wanted to power him down because they thought he had gotten too powerful, but they have gone way too far the other way. Read the classic Silver Age epic “Superman Under the Green Sun,” or the 90s classic “The Death of Superman.” That was the true Man of Steel, not the Wimp of Clay he has become.
I want a story where and Injustice-like situation is entirely avoided because Batman hits Superman with a magic amulet so he gets too high to turn evil and conquer the world
The only thing that I’m more sure of then Bruce not giving up his Green K …is that Clark better not even think about taking Lois’s Periwinkle K …Lol 🖖🏾
So it pretty clear with the Lana twist that this storyline was going hard on Smallville. We all can imagine Smallville Lana doing this same thing with the same minor coercion.
There is a 70s story where Superman either isn't affected by Kryptonite or somehow it all goes inert, but the event that made it happen also created a sand clone of Superman. I don't know what happened next because it wasn't in the big "Superman From The 30s To The 70s" book I used to borrow from the library but it might be worth a look.
Whenever I see people denying the existance of magic in a story where magic is very obvious and unexplainable by science, they always come across less like reasonable men of science and more like flat earthers who deny what's right in front of them.
As a super villain threat Lana’s button works fine, but is entirely contrary to her goal of preventing Superman from destroying her kryptonite caches. “You can’t destroy my stuff because I’M going to destroy my stuff!” How long do you need to be a CEO before you go all Strangelove?
To defend your Batman-voice: I realy love it.😉 And you are right - Wallers Anti-Superman-Squad is compeltly believable (and i. m. o. justified). better save than sorrow... And all in all this story (and especially your comments and voicing) was pure gold.🤣
Sasha’s Batman voice is like rule 43 (the opposite of 34): “if you can imagine it - there is a glorious heart-felt and hilarious imitation of it that you love for all the wholesome reasons”.
Superman often goes on missions to other planets, dimensions, and eras in time. Can he ever really be safe from Kryptonite, even if he successfully removes it all from this present earth? I hope they didn't overlook Jimmy's pad. He's always got some K squirreled away, lol!
These two are truly the World's Finest. Opposites yet the same, in a way looking for the end results, Justice! Love the Batman voice. Adding different voices to each character as you post these videos make the video unique and enjoyable. You must be amazing when you read bedtime stories to your kids.
This is a hilarious movie & would probably make for a great parody. Batman doesn't believe in magic meanwhile his teacher Raj al-Ghoul has lived for 100s of years and Jason Todd was revived. Various gods and meta humans are believable though for Batman. Lana's argument is really dumb I helped build kryptonite weapons to save jobs on the other hand how many times has Lex tried to kill Superman & how many times has Superman saved everything not to mention Lana specifically
I think Batman's skepticism of magic isn't 100% arbitrary when you consider that most of DC's magic users, as opposed to the more Honors Student crowd at Marvel, tend to be misfits and outsiders, sometimes even bordering on criminals. Even Zatanna's "Everyone thinks I'm a stage magician but I actually do magic for real" has layers of deception to it. After working with John Constantine, master tricker and living shitpost of a human being, I might come out believing magic was a thing less than when I started.
On the other hand, Batman's "I don't believe in ghosts" philosophy that he had at one point was very strange considering that he's teamed up with Deadman a bunch of times, not to mention meeting the Spectre a few times. It's still weird that Batman thinks Billy Batson says the word "Shazam" to turn into Captain Marvel via science. Or that Wonder Woman got her powers from the gods scientifically.
A lot of Dc's from this time that you review are things I read when they came out, but have since forgotten. But this one stayed with me. i remember the series had been very hit and miss to me to this point. More miss than hit. But this one I liked. I can only recall liking it and the Aquaman issue, but even so. I thought Aquaman in this was Artie Jr, as the internet called him? The legacy version introduced in the Kurt Busiek run. This because that was coming out at the same time, and because here he has Loreena and King Shark with him. Supporting characters from that run. I remember I thought this issue showed he could really work as a character if written right. But that was not to be of course. Suppose Lance's mother had been to free baseball glove day at the stadium, and used that on her kids. Would Lance have ended up being Glove Man? Amanda not seemingly knowing Bruce is Batman reminds me of All Star Batman [the Snyder version] where Alfred says 'working out he is Batman is not hard. But Master Bruce has made it that proving such is impossible.'
I hate how ubiquitous Kryptonite is! In the DC Universe, you can find the stuff on every street corner and 7-11. If it's from an extinct world, then Kryptonite needs to be rare - adding to its gravitas.
That's probably why in the post-Crisis reboot, there was only *one* piece of kryptonite and Lex Luthor had it. He used up bits of it here and there (like giving Bloodsport kryptonite bullets) until all he had left was enough for one kryptonite ring (that gave him cancer and made him lose his hand). It wasn't until much later in the post-Crisis universe that kryptonite came back in a big way, back to pre-Crisis levels. I think it was this very series (Superman/Batman) that was guilty of doing this. It's probably also why in the 70's, the pre-Crisis universe got rid of all kryptonite on Earth by having a chain reaction from something cause all the kryptonite on Earth to turn into lead.
I like the Batman voice. As to who I want Batman /Bruce with it's... Vicki Vale! I was talking to my brother about her yesterday. AS a side note, there's a really cool Kryptonite story in the Superman radio show. There's a guy called the Atom Man who could have liquid kryptonite injected into his veins and shoot electricity out of these gloves. He almost kills Superman!
It was a fun story and definitely one of those I don't entirely agree with the way Aquaman and Lana were acting but they made for interesting conversations. Your Batman voice is hilarious never stop doing it!
Haven't finished watching yet, but before I head out of the house and forget - please review the World's Finest Kids (I may be misremembering the name) with Tim and Connor taking on Poison Ivy and Metallo. It's so bad it's good!
I think instead of Bruce having a massive kryptonite stockpile he can just have a kryptonite ring. Brings back the importance of kryptonite since there's only one piece left that can actually be used against supes. Although metallo would need a new power source, maybe a mini-red sun generator?
I'm super curious how they explained this much kryptonite being on Earth (and so many different kinds). I thought Krypton was fairly far away from Earth and Clark's pod had to be programmed to go there. I'd have expected kryptonite to be more scattered across the galaxy.
They started going with the Smallville/Superman TAS explanation at some point (that being that a bunch of it was dragged here in the wake of Superman's ship's spacewarp wake; an extrapolation of a piece being embedded in it as seen in the original Man of Steel mini). I first remember seeing that explanation used in the comics in Kelley's Action Comics run: the origin of Russian Zod involved a kryptonite meteor shower "pulled" here by Kal-El's ship destroying a Russian space station.
I asked myself the same question re: kryptonite leading to radiation poisoning (ala the Byrne Reboot of Man of Steel's Lex Luthor getting a robotic hand because of it). I've got a fondness for Jewel Kryptonite as something unique but potentially dangerous when used by psychic powers (also, because it was relatively unchanged in appearance from the Jewel Mountains a real piece of home). Also an honorable mention to Silver Kryptonite that I only learned about in a blurb in one of those DC Digests - Spuerman vs. Kryptonite! - It was a pratical joke by Jimmy Olsen (what a pal!) celebrating Superman's Silver Anniversary Also, loving the hair! The colour and style really pop!
I love the Batman voice! I found your cannel 2-3 months ago and I think I have seen almost all your videos. The Batman voice drew me in, Lois and Jimmy made me stay. 😂
I think the Batman actor is suppose to be Daniel Craig (even though he looks nothing like him) because he's the only blond Bond that exsised at the time.
Brought the tpb of search for kryptonite back in the day to prepare myself for Superman:Earth One, also drawn by Shane Davis. Really liked it. It's a entertaining story with great moments. I never felt it was any more corny than any other Superhero comic.
I've loved the animated adaptation of worlds finest since I first saw it years ago and I've had this book on my mind as something I want to read for almost as long but this video makes this book look like a lot of fun so I just bought the trade. Great video as usual 👌
I think that you could’ve included Lana in the beginning of the arc as someone willing to help out. But then it ties back to Lana obviously being shady/manipulated
Liked this video! Would you consider doing a video(s) on Hawkman and/or Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman? Their character histories are...complicated to say the least, even when creators try to clean up or compress their history lol
I shall chose to believe the reason why some DC characters just don't believe in magic for some reason is because Doctor Thirteen is out there holding seminars and writing absurd amount of books about how magic isn't real and what magic users can do is totally possible to explain by facts and logic This trope always baffles me but at least DC have a guy that we can blame for all that

@@nctpti2073 Hah, good points.
It would've been better if it was made apparent that clark was also thinking about the other kryptonians like powergirl, supergirl and conner and making the world safer for them.
"Imagine a walking talking nuclear weapon"
Captain Atom? ... Firestorm?
Your Batman voice always rules 😂
Just a thought, what if the Kryptonite eventually corrupted the sun causing its rays to effect Superman in different ways. I think that would be an interesting dark universe story.
Leading to a new title, "Superman by Night"?
deadass, maybe lets not throw Supes weakness into the source of his life? Like
Even if they dropped the whole planet into the sun, it wouldn't make that much difference. Stars are BIIIG.
Krypton is vulnerable to fire. It burns .
This story was like 20 years ago, you can read it now if you want :D
I didnt know people believed superman had a secret identity. I thought some just saw him as superman 24/7
To the mooooon! I died.😅
How cool it must be for Sasha's kids that she does voices when she reads character dialog.
The red pixie cut wig is my new favorite.#wiglife .
I want a story where and Injustice-like situation is entirely avoided because Batman hits Superman with a magic amulet so he gets too high to turn evil and conquer the world
“Straight to the moon, Alice!”
The only thing that I’m more sure of then Bruce not giving up his Green K …is that Clark better not even think about taking Lois’s Periwinkle K …Lol 🖖🏾
I love whenever media be it comics or TV spoofs on other medium. Ones like this, Planet of the Apes musical in Simpsons, and Tights in Animal Man
So it pretty clear with the Lana twist that this storyline was going hard on Smallville. We all can imagine Smallville Lana doing this same thing with the same minor coercion.
That opening is actually perfect
One thing I found interesting about energy Superman era was he wasn’t weak to kryptonite
Your take on Batman rocks.
Warner Brothers should offer you a gig in their animation.
Batman voice is indeed silly and fun. And I’m here for it.
Ultraman found it during the “Forever Evil” story
How can anyone hate your Batman voice?!
Lore of Superman DESTROYS ALL Kryptonite! Momentum 100
I'll admit I haven't read this one but I do appreciate giving Batman more of a personality then just tortured soul just fighting crime or playboy.
As a super villain threat Lana’s button works fine, but is entirely contrary to her goal of preventing Superman from destroying her kryptonite caches.
“You can’t destroy my stuff because I’M going to destroy my stuff!”
How long do you need to be a CEO before you go all Strangelove?
YAY! The Batman Voice!
I always thoroughly enjoy the Batman Voice! Sasha you are the voice talent of our generation.
I love the Batman voice. No matter how stupid it gets it always makes me laugh.
This was good fun all around!
And really liked the short red do on you.. and the glasses and green eyeshadow.
Superman had a hell of 420
You very much bring the Brit Batman, to my mind, with your Bat-voice.
To defend your Batman-voice: I realy love it.😉 And you are right - Wallers Anti-Superman-Squad is compeltly believable (and i. m. o. justified). better save than sorrow...
And all in all this story (and especially your comments and voicing) was pure gold.🤣
Now I want to see a Power Girl - Toyman - Joker love triangle.
Sasha’s Batman voice is like rule 43 (the opposite of 34): “if you can imagine it - there is a glorious heart-felt and hilarious imitation of it that you love for all the wholesome reasons”.
Yeah, i'm with you Sasha, the "Batman doesn't believe in magic" trope also drives me insane lol
You must be amazing when you read bedtime stories to your kids.
i love your Batman voice. makes me laugh
Favourite Batman ship? What can I say---I grew up as a DCAU gal. It'll always be WonderBat.
What about Doctor Fate?
I'm pretty sure he might has another reason to distrust Zatanna.
**cough** --mind wipe-- **cough** .
@@CTheng Batman doesn't trust anyone, besides, Zatanna had good reason, Batman tends to defend criminals sometimes
Doctor Fate *sometimes* has wise and spiritual thing going on, but sometimes he's basically Moon Knight.
My favorite kryptonite is Periwinkle of course! How else is Clark ever going to cut loose and stop being such a square man?
I like plaid kryptonite and the way it makes Clark grab an axe and join the nearest logging camp.
Don't apologize for your Batman voice. Keep it and the narrations up.
Great episode! Silly but witty. I like this gum-chewin', shootin' from the hip type of flow. Very fun to watch
Anyone else notice the 'magic' kryptonite kind of mirrored Eclipso's chest symbol?
Because Krypton was in the other side of the sun. Krypton was the twin planet of the earth.
@@dupersuper1938
I totally forgot about Russian Zod. Was he created before or after Red Son?
@@Crabomax no…??
@@Crabomax wait what?
I asked myself the same question re: kryptonite leading to radiation poisoning (ala the Byrne Reboot of Man of Steel's Lex Luthor getting a robotic hand because of it). I've got a fondness for Jewel Kryptonite as something unique but potentially dangerous when used by psychic powers (also, because it was relatively unchanged in appearance from the Jewel Mountains a real piece of home). Also an honorable mention to Silver Kryptonite that I only learned about in a blurb in one of those DC Digests - Spuerman vs. Kryptonite! - It was a pratical joke by Jimmy Olsen (what a pal!) celebrating Superman's Silver Anniversary
Also, loving the hair! The colour and style really pop!
1:15 Green K, Red K.... Special K... :D
They tried to get rid of Kryptonite in the 70's and it ended up coming back.
Because writers and editors are loud.
Superman ate a chunk like it was a Snickers.
Actually Sasha my favorite James Bond actor , Sir Sean Connery ( RIP) is Scottish 🖖🏾
Great series. This is some peak Batman and I just love seeing him interact with other leaguers and besties with Superman
Superman-Batman also had the first Batman-Jim Gordon-Detective Chimp rooftop meet. We need more of those
I shall chose to believe the reason why some DC characters just don't believe in magic for some reason is because Doctor Thirteen is out there holding seminars and writing absurd amount of books about how magic isn't real and what magic users can do is totally possible to explain by facts and logic
This trope always baffles me but at least DC have a guy that we can blame for all that
Remember, as far as most of the DC Universe was concerned at this point, Batman was ALSO just an urban legend.
NOOOOO Sasha!!! I think you’re perfect with almost all of your superhero impressions, and your batman is perfect :)
21:01 I LOVE your Batman voice is HILARIOUS
