Purists will hate me for saying this about this stunningly beautiful video, but I actually had a lot of fun watching it at double speed! I know, that's terrible. A big part of the joy of the ride is the 1880's pace. Thanks for posting.

You certainly are blessed with beautiful scenery. I see you know how to feel small when looking at some of those scenes. We have similar vistas here, although the world knows we live in Jurassic Park as well.... Thank you for sharing, I was surprised at snow so late in your spring. Is it always this way? Much better than unending heat I guess.
The snow was mixed with rain and at an elevation of around 10,000 feet. This high in the Rockies it's not extremely rare to have snow in May.

Jeez, I guess suntan lotion isn't a lot of use then. What we wouldn't give for snow in summer!
Actually sunscreen is more important at high altitude. For every 1,000 feet of elevation you climb, you’ll experience an 8-10 percent increase in ultraviolet intensity. At least that's what a quick look with Google tells me.
Oh! I didn't know that as the snow country here is all staked out for the 'haves' not the 'have nots'. Only the well-to-do or the reckless can afford a holiday in the snow country, which is approx. 600 odd miles from here or about 6 - 7 hrs driving. So that lets me out. Been once, froze my a*se off in a caravan and said never again.

Yes. He is following, looking for fires that might be started by the locomotive.

This is railroading at it's best. Steam is still reliable, contrary to the groups that feel the necessity to assist them with diesel. Beautiful!
Um, without boring everyone to death, I have learned that the Cumbres & Toltec is separated from a continuation of the line by a 100 mile gap and that the other portion (a sister railroad, if you like) is the Colorado Northern/Southern?? If that is so, what a shame that it could not be whole again. Just a personal observation.

When was this taken? 487’s whistle sounds like how it did awhile ago. It sounded like it was screaming a little while ago so that’s why I ask
It was shot several years ago. I recently improved the color grading, did quite a bit of editing to improve the pacing, and combined two videos into one. If they've made the 487 whistle ugly, that's unfortunate.
