Arcane has no trans people and is thus transphobic. Until riot addresses this issue arcane will be a horrible show. Also there is no sex scene between cait and vi. Both are of age of consent(which should be lowered) and it not being included is to deny that lesbians can have fulfilling sex lives.

It’s like….we already generally know the lore but seeing it played out so well on the grand scale and seeing the characters develop. Ahhhh what a treat
I went into it knowing full well that it had to end in conflict (a la the “Battle” of MOBA).
Yet I still found myself upset that it wasn’t a happy ending. They developed the characters so well.

@@porhaltavaneppeexpect that for the most part the general strokes of characters are the same. Yeah it’s new stuff but that is mostly details. Singed for one has a pretty different backstory yet his motives and character arc still move in the same direction
Singed being the catalyst of a lot of the backstories on Runeterra is a wild thought.
Wherever he goes, tragedy is destined to follow.
The way he’s portrayed in Arcane you can almost tell he used to be a good man. Grief can really change a person.
He's like Orochimaru but in a much greater conflict. Orochimaru "at least" did his things in secret, Singed shaped the entire history of his and all nearby countries just for the sake of it.

Kid Viktor DOES try to make contact! The way he holds her gaze when starting the boat, only just briefly check that it works and then look back at her. He is definitely trying! But instead of him saying "look at me", he's saying "look at the thing I built".
Agreed. I work with ND children, and that is absolutely an I’m-nervous-to-initiate-and-don’t-exactly-know-how-but-I-have-a-cool-thing-that-I would-love-to-talk-to-you-about stare.

As an ACE nerd, that tone of voice Viktor uses says he understands but his focus is elsewhere.
It looks a lot more like, "why are you watching me topsider? I thought I was alone."
The biggest revelation for me in this short was Skye been introduced in the flashback and not been some random assistant. I'm really bad at remembering people. :-(
I mean to be fair there’s like, very little indication of it.

I mean she shows up as 'nameless assistant' in episodes 4 and 5, and flashback happens as intro in episode 6 - thats I think also the frist time in 'current time' where she's mentioned by name alas without appearing on screen - it's like something Jayce says after Viktor shows him the plant "I'll have Skye bring Heimerdinger.."
So she's not rly introduced in the flashback because flashback happens pretty late in act2
@@monochromeink.in the flashback you can hear someone calling her in the background, not really an introduction but it confirms that the girl was skye

My favourite scene is after he first augments his messed up leg when he starts running on the dock we see him catching up and outpacing the boats in the background in contrast with his younger self failing to catch up to his toy boat due to the same messed up leg.

Man the attention to detail in arcane is INSANE
symbolism and poetry like this is weirdly rare in modern media for some reason, Arcane was really excellent for it

That's exactly how I felt. After my first watch I was like "Eh, it was okay. A bit slow at parts."
Then a dozen video essays later I'm like "Ohhh, I'm just an idiot that can't pick up on subtle details."

Damn poor Viktor. In another world, in another life, him and Powder/Jinx would've been the best of friends and engineering geniuses with a status of respect and admiration. Sadly, it's another "what could have been" scenario.
I'm still predicting that they will interact in the future. There were some interesting parallels between the two in season 1 - Jinx studying Viktor's work, while Viktor studies hers.

I think my favourite scene in Arcane season 1 (besides the ending scene) is still the scene where Viktor runs for the first time
I have seen many people talking about how terrific it was when they saw him outrun the boat in the distance. A perfectly poetic way to show the beauty of his success, but also beautifully tragic because of what we know this success is going to cost him further down the line. Honestly, Acts 2 and 3 act 3 have some of the best cinematography and storytelling I have seen in a while in animation!
For me it's when Jayce stops Viktor from commiting suicide like when Viktor did for him back in the past.

Arcane absolutely _nailed_ the 9-episode format. Its writers & directors seriously understood how _little_ wiggle room they had for fluff, even with ~40 minutes per episode. Every single scene, action, and line of dialogue pushed the characters & overarching plot forward in some way.
The gap in quality between Arcane and something like the Disney Star Wars shows (Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Mandalorian Season 3, and Ahsoka) is colossal.
It hurts to say it but yeah, Arcane is better than Ahsoka. I don't like to admit it because I love the character herself but in that show she pretty much lost most of her personality. I understand that she grew older and became more serious but that much?
I also really love that the boat comes back for the metaphor later when he finally runs for the first time and is shown keeping up with and surpassing technology
It was honestly heartbreaking to see her get vaporized.
My money's on her coming back as Janna. You don't just name a character Sky and have her magically evaporate when you have a zaunite wind spirit with no established backstory.

Schnee once said "Arcane doesn't have bad scenes, it has bad *scene."* and, referring to that same scene "Arcane's worst scene would be one of the best in any other show."
The scene in question is the first Chem Baron scene. Scene scene. Scene.
I can’t wait to see how they reimagine not just Viktor’s machine form with Arcane’s more refined styles, but also Singed’s story with their much more thought out writing.
I feel like it's really smart of you to make both a long-form video for those that like in-depth essay videos, AND turn passages of it into Shorts that people scrolling through their feed can watch without a big time investment, while also leading people intersted for more to the main video.
That's really clever algorithm juggling imo
Most do it lol, the only thing is it’s been shown a lot of the times shorts don’t assist numbers in long form content sadly.
Well, sort of. It's actually really, REALLY hard to convert viewers from shorts to long form videos, they are pretty strongly separated. A short with hundreds of thousands of views might only drive a hundred views to a video it is promoting.
So it's less a clever optimization strategy and more an attempt to make sure the people who subscribe here at least *know* that I have a main channel for long form content.

I haven't seen a lot of people do what Skyen does, which is taking bits out of an essay that talk about one specific point, and make that a short

Knowing his lore, I’m so excited, but also not emotionally prepared to watch Viktor’s S2 arc. Gosh Arcane is just so good.
I feel like the first interaction with Sky can be read diferently too. I dont think if he was fully unintrested in her he would have looked up again, it also can be read as him trying to show her his invention, but in that case I dont know how that would paraler to his older self.
Inability to communicate leads to something Victor didn't want:

Singed left a really big impression on me when watching this series. I feel like he had such character, such charisma. He stole every scene he was in with minimal dialogue, and each time he had grown to be something bigger than what he was before.
I'd love to have you make a collab with schnee, who had made a lot of narrative analysis on Arcane as well. I know you're more about story telling through cinematography and animation and he's more about story telling in general, but you both display a level of depth and passion for your work that I feel would be great to see you both sharing opinions on both matters.
THIS is the type of stuff that makes me absolutely jaw dropped at how amazing arcane is. its not just good and entertaining, its not just well done, it is LITERALLY art. it is so masterfully done, truly a masterpiece

Arcane is the only show I've ever seen where character relationships are essentially played out by the same scene over and over, but in different contexts. Like the bridge, the lake, the council, Singed's cave, etc.
The grass was already there, ready to burn.
Singed just provided the sparks.

Every single scene in Arcane is so deep and full of hidden meanings, i've been obsessed with this show for almost 3 years and i still find new things about it

Amazing! Love how you discovered this. Did not catch this parallel whilst watching the show but seeing the two arcs, younger and older, side by side with your description of whats happening, it really does apply to both seamlessly.
Arcane is such a masterclass in everything
Every time I watch a video on Arcane, I’m just astounded at how masterfully crafted every scene is. It’s just so rich with detail and nuance.
Best part is when Victor is running there was a boat in the background. It shows the difference when he was still a kid chasing his toy boat.
I think we can go even further regarding Skye herself. In this scene she looks being quite "wild" and agile, exploring easily in nature, but yet she choose to work in a labo as a scientist assistant, which means she have probably dedicated most her life just to keep her love in reach.
So much pain in Victor's story. I wish to see happy end but we all know, "no rest for the wicked"

The storytelling in arcane is just top tier. And that's apart from the animation ❤
That lack of understanding and hyperfixation on his invention, shows quite blatantly to me he has aspergers or at the very least they made him aspergery, and what better thing to give to your incredible inventer
This was the day I realized that Skye was in the flashback.
Arcane is one of those shows where every tiny little detail is accounted for and accommodated; it will be another Millenium before we get anything at this level of quality
Writer here: This scene is what I like to refer to as a thesis. Similar to an essay, when you introduce a story element you want to give indication of what that story element is and what it’s about. A lot of writers do this for singular scenes as well, see the shootout in Barry episode one season one to see what Im talking about.

Personally victor is my fav character he reminds me of me weak, but has lots of brains lacks bronzes yes but sometimes brains is all that can matter and sometimes brains is way more powerful.

I also noticed that when he replaces his leg and tries to run there's a boat behind him and he outruns it, unlike when he trips and loses to the small boat when he's a kid
I also like the scene where he runs and outpaces the boat in the background. Much like the kid scene except he can now chase after the boat.
My favorite scene is hands down the guns for hire its definitely represents the desperation of how jinx/powder wants her sister back
And later in the series when he finally runs, catching up and outrunning the boats on the background, that scream that comes from his very soul. Its like he's screaming to the very world that made him so frail and weak that he beat it, that he won't die, that Viktor won't go extinct, and instead he'll evolve.

i watched this show for the first time a year or so ago, not very big into LoL, still not quite into it but this is such an insanely good show, and will all of the connections, it’s still one of my favorites

This really does get me wondering how Viktor will turn into his champion design. Bc the hex tech scared him into ditching once he saw it was too dangerous to handle.
His condition worsening due to the explosions in the cliffhanger, Piltover retaliating aggressively towards Zaun and Viktor not agreeing with it leading to arguing and eventually expulsion from the Council by Jayce, Viktor being desperate and wanting to help the people of Zaun (or end the conflict) so he turns back to the hexcore.
That’s just my guess. Somewhere in between is probably the creation of Blitzkrank as well?
I wonder if TB will do a breakdown of piltover and zaun via architectural design. That Bicentennial scene and Playground/ Dirty little animals always get me.
And how he does understand the doctor’s decision when he is a child but does understand when he goes back an adult
I love that he couldnt keep up with his toy boat bjt once he gets the hex powers he indulges in his speed and runs passed real life boats on the boardwalk. On top of that, he is walking to the right as a child and running left as an adult...could be symbolic
If they ever come to make season 2, Whether or not if its good itll still be a great season just through animation alone

Singed is just about as polarizing for the development and even creation of several characters as Leblanc. They both aren't exactly huge personalities, and are generally background characters, but are important to so many other character's stories.
In Zaun he creates or develops Warwick, Viktor, Twitch, and we can assume Zac. With the invasion of Ionia, Riven, Irelia, and many other characters that would have been important in that war.
At the same time, Leblanc is important for Talon, Katarina, Cassiopea, Briar, Rell, and many other characters. A few are even her direct creations just like Singed.
Powder turns into Jinx, Skye turns into powder. Like pottery, it rhymes.
