NASA’s $3.5 Billion Idea To Save Earth From A Supervolcano Apocalypse

  • Yellowstone National Park sits atop a massive supervolcano that’s considered one of the greatest volcano threats in the county. While experts estimate that a super-eruption might not happen for another few million years, NASA scientists performed a thought experiment to determine how we could prevent Yellowstone from ever erupting again. Their hypothetical idea involves cooling the volcano down by pumping cold water into a series of wells around its perimeter. If implemented, the scenario could potentially save Earth from a super-volcano apocalypse.

      The icecaps are slowly melting. There's a volcanic ridge on Antartica, holding 90-120 volcanic peaks which are mostly held dormant, due to the massive weight of the ice-layer on top of them. With that weight dropping, it'd require less pressure for one, or multiple of them, to come to eruption. Lava fuming out on the South-Pole would cause more ice to melt there, creating a chain-reaction.
      Next to Yellowstone there's also the Long-Valley caldera which seems more active than YS. Toba in Indonesia is also showing signs of activity. The Aira Caldea in Japan, and then there's something called Flood Volcanism. If something of this magnitude would happen, there's nothing humanity can do. This planet has kept itself in check for over 4.5B years. Humans only exist for a rough 2M years.. We're not even a flea in an unshaved sheepskin, in that perspective.
      Bottom line: Humanity has lost its respect for this planet a long time ago. Its all about money, power, and control now.

      Your entire accusation is bonkers, your reasoning is inadequate, and your logic is insane. I'm merely stating a few scientific facts that were recently discovered, and that humankind, atleast from the ruling-classes, have no regard for nature or this planet anymore, only money, and power.
      This is power: mother nature at her worst! The fertile soils around a volcanic area, that is wealth! The lush blooming greenlands that will grow any sort of vegetation to its very best due to the mineral-rich soil.
      People arent being educated enough about this sort of information. Thats not because of humanity in general, but only those who dictate what is to be educated! But that is a whole different sort of discussion.

    You could actually trigger a super-eruption by introducing large amounts of water close to the magma chamber. The water would be evaporated and thus introduce substantial gas into the equation. Gas is a major contributor to the pressures that cause a volcano to erupt, and which helps to provide the force for the powerful ejection of lava.

    • @makunahatata2406
      @makunahatata2406 2 года назад +3

If you were to puncture a hole in the volcano wouldn’t all that lava just rush to the opening? And wouldn’t it explode there? If there is one thing we should’ve learned about nature by now it’s to not mess with it.
