Ezzard Charles was one of the most gifted, smart, fast and tough heavyweights of his time. He had beat Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott, before Marciano beat them. He had a solid left hook. He had excellent hand speed. However, he ran into Marciano and Marciano was a wrecking machine. Marciano had more punching power than any heavyweight, ever. And one of Marciano's training methods, which no other heavyweight did in the '50s: Marciano stood in a ditch, squatted, and threw rocks out of the ditch, tossing the rocks up from left to right, and then from right to left, in the motion of an uppercut each time. Do that for an hour a day, and see how it feels. Then try an hit a 300 pound heavy bag for an hour. Marciano ate pushups for breakfast and heavy bags for lunch. Threw an average of 80 punches a round, throughout his career (that's twice as many punches per round as champion middleweights). Incredible fighter. And he always found a way to win, usually by knockout.

To say that Marciano was a crude fighter technically is not really an insult or criticism. Everyone knows this. What made Marciano so good was incredible conditioning and heart. He was a classic pressure fighter grinding his opponent down over 15 rounds. He only started boxing at the age of 25 so he had to work with his natural talents a lot.

Ali was knocked down by 185 pound Henry Cooper and needed extra time between rounds just after he was knocked down.

Back then it was crude and rude by today's standards,,, but today's Fighter's can't compare to old school boxing. too many rule's and pussified rule's ..they use to box 100 rounds back in the 1700 and 1800's bare Knuckle's tell, me who was tougher? Old school was MMA? WWF? that's a joke!!!

If that fight took place today, they would have stopped it because of the cut. Refs were more carefree back in those days.

Ezzard Charles was tired and did a lot of clinching. Maybe the clinching was done to try and frustrate Marciano but it didn't work.

Marciano tinha uma bomba nuclear na mão direita! Ele era leve pra um pesado! 85kg a 90kg! Mas compensava com um punch fora do normal pelo seu tamanho!

marciano obviously was not technically good, but he used to attack for all the match, he punched hard and he had a stone body, so was a terrible opponent. He never lost, 49 matches, 49 wins, most of them by ko.
