They had to fly further north than expected because of a storm. I'm guessing they got waaay off track and that's why they haven't been found yet.
This is the episode where I started down the rabbit hole of Roman/Greek mythology connections to Yellowjackets. The shots of the Bacchanalia did it for me. Bacchus (Dionysus in Greek) is the god of wine, fertility, ecstasy, ritual madness, and a few other random things. He presides over the forest and has a cult-like legion of mostly female followers called the Maenads. Early depictions of Bacchus/Dionysus showed him having horns. Part of the rituals of the Maenads in celebration of Bacchus involved drunken orgies (Doomcoming), being possessed by Bacchus himself (Lottie at the seance?), poisonings (Misty), animal sacrifice (the bear?), murder (which we assume is coming, considering Pit Girl), and cannibalism.
There are soooo many parallels. I keep finding new ones as I watch and rewatch. It's an interesting link, and I'm not sure where the writers are going with it, but it's fun to find all the symbolism throughout. Like easter eggs.
Also, keep in mind what Travis says to Lottie about wanting to get as close to death as possible so he can "talk to it" (meaning the wilderness or the spirit of the wilderness.) We start seeing a theme related to that in this season.
Laura Lee and the man with no eyes both startled me in this episode. 😂

The fire melted the snow covering the tree above Jackie's corpse, then a gust of wind hit the melting snow and it fell onto Jackie's burning body so it cooked slowly like a rotisserie chicken. Nothing supernatural had to happen. Just physics.
