I installed a non-soldered modchip in my OG Xbox. I believe it was an Xecuter chip? I can’t remember. It had a switch I wired to the front and you could switch the specific OS on and off depending if you were going online or not. I remember not realizing that and giving everyone tank guns and flying in Halo 2 matchmaking 😂 they perma banned me from matchmaking but I could still do custom games. Thankfully, my gamertag (which I still use to this day) was granted forgiveness when Halo 3 came out on the 360. Bungie was super chill back then :)

Sorry, a quick side note related to the Hollywood strike. I had an experience with Motion Capture and voice acting and have to say even though gaming industry is a colossus these days, voice over actors and mo cap performers are not fully considered 'equal' talent as traditional actors. What's really interesting right now is that the mainstream, 'regular' actors demand royalties for their digital likeness when it's used on new projects they are not technically involved with. Something MoCap actors could relate to... The disparities by default between the wages of (male) actors and the rest of the film crew are excruciating. The so called 'below-the-line' workers who are not considered 'talent' and yet are essential to the whole production process. In a similar fashion; every DP has a team of ppl who would prepare the frame/set/location beforehand and - in a way- they're the people who create the director's vision in the first place. It's almost as if every 'above the line' creator had an army of ghost writers for their specific job. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in the new Resident Evil games :)

128MB support is coming in one of the next updates, and almost all, if not all of the features not currently working are implemented but disabled as the currently enabled features go through testing a bit at a time. Something you might want to do with the fan upgrade is change the default fan speed, fan mods can cause the console to run hotter as the fan curve isn't the same as the stovk fan. Also the hdplus now requires the stellar it's no longer compatible without the chip as some of the processing has been moved to the chip
Looks like a fun project. I still have both of my modded OG Xboxes. Back in the day I even outfitted one with a modded non Xbox DVD drive to replace the original failed Thompson drive.

Are you installing just stellar or both it and the hd chip? putting in stellar on it's own is pretty easy to do. The HD chip is a lot more complicated, and I sent it out to get installed.
I mean its interesting, I'm just not sure what it offers over a TSSOP flash, which is what I did to all my systems back in the day. Its a little more leg work tracking down the BIOS hacks you want and enabling them. But you could just install a dual bios chips and a switch as well 🤷♂️
I have like 12 original xboxes down in my basement. I use to buy them broken then fix and resell them. I even have one I modded from back when the front faceplate with an LCD screen was the way to go lol. Maybe I'll have to dig one out and get back into modding again seeing they've came out with some cool stuff again.
ModzvilleUSA just released a video on this kit yesterday showcasing the fact that most of the advertised features are currently not present, and some of them were said to be cut but still advertised. One of the features that currently does not work is 128mb RAM support, as performed in this video. Another is compressed games
I am extremely interested in project stellar mostly only for the controller support. I currently use a wingman xb to acheve the same effect and it works great most of the time, but would be very nice to have it built in. I also hope project stellar eventually supports rebinding buttons through the menu (something the wingman xb does do, but requires weird awkward button combos with no visual indication if you did it right.) I also hope stellar will support all types of controllers, and not just xbox ones. I usually use a PS5 controller on my xbox and if input rebinding becomes a thing, I hope the touch pad button on the duel sense can be bound as well. If these things get implemented than I will SERIOUSLY consider getting stellar (I've barley done any soldering but from the looks, xbox mod chips are relatively simpler soldering projects.)
I'm only 10:30 in this video so their's a chance this is already mentioned in the video. I've found threw research and some experience that if you do a 80mm fan "upgrade" and you use the original fan connector usualy the new fan will need more voltage to provide the same airflow as the stock fan wich means unless you hook up the fan to a diferent fan controller or simply use molex(constant 12 v output) their will be drasticaly less cooling. i hooked up a 80mm pc fan(can't remember the name) to the original fan connector on the motherboard and with the top shell off and My v1.4 Xbox just running on the original dashboard The GPU Heatsink got to like 15 degrees Celsius Hoter after 5 minutes than when i have an original fan in a v1.6 with the top shell off and the tempuratures were still going up so i turned the Xbox off. I've also heard others have noticed this as well so i doubt it's an adnoral fan problem. My takeaway from that is it's a bad idea to install a new 80mm PC fan unless you adress the higher voltage demand for same cooling performance as the stock setup or better. I know this seems to be a common mod people do and yes it's quieter but at the cost of signifigantly higher temperatures wich i believe will shorten the lifespan of the xbox and posably lower it's performance as well. If you want quieter and still cheap and easy to instal i prefer geting a molex Y spliter and a very quiet PC fan and run it on the same Molex the HDD uses. It will not be optamal for fan noise(because their's no fan control) but it will at least be equal or higher airflow and thus good cooling compaired to stock and if the fan is a quiet pc 80mm fan it might be a little quieter than the stock fan even though it's always at max RPM.
That XBMC iteration looks very similar to the Aurora dashboard for 360, I guess they may have taken inspiration from that. As for 128MB games, some of the Chihiro arcade games like Virtua Cop 3 run well without any additional work to be done. I don't know if it'll run with the Stellar board, but it does on my Xbox with an Xecuter 2 bios.
I've been keeping the Project Stellar modchip in my drawer for several months already Not willing to swap it out with my XeniumICE modchip until after Dustin confirms support for 128MB consoles
I’ve had it in my Xbox but I’m just going to switch back to my Xecuter 3 until it actually gets features to be excited about. If the features are implemented but just disabled, then he needs to release updates more frequently. How is the Stellar supposed to leave the “beta” period if people can’t even test the features because hardly any updates have been released?
Yeah this keeps reminding me how I have a number of consoles I need to mod before things get difficult to find. A PS3 a 360 and an original Xbox. I forgot just how awesome things used to be they really were great. The original Xbox was way ahead of the curve and honestly with a few little tweaks here and there it's a pretty awesome system still.
Oh brother… this thing stinks. Give cerbios a try, it already has xiso, up to 16tb, compressed iso (CCI) and it’s free. This thing was overhyped and really undelivered so far. The ISO / CSO support is still missing as well. Currently the only supported format is traditional extracted iso like you created in this video. At the moment this thing is as basic as the most bastic M8 bios. I am pretty hyped for the CPU upgraded features though as I got lucky on getting one. Bought an x3 pro switch from germany and a cpu upgraded board showed up instead, no complaints. Would love to see you do a video on upgrading the cpu. Hit up Kekule / Chimeric Systems, He has some cpu interposer boards.
I have a Xbox to PS2 adapter and solder a ESP32 with Blueretro to it. Now my Xbox have bluetooth. Best solution to use wireless controller on the Xbox.
@winlover37I figured not, I believe only Nintendo made official wireless controllers for GameCube. However, Logitech made an awesome wireless controller for PS2, which Sony officially certified. I'm surprised there isn't one for the first Xbox. Edit: Logitech does (did) make a cordless precision controller, it's $150 on Amazon atm.
I wanted to use UnleashX with background replicating official menu in blue but in HD resolution images were stretched. It took some editing on PC to get it to look somehow right.
Can you do a video about this and a debug/dvt console… not much is mentioned about that. I’m just wondering if you can use larger hdds on debug units as I know the debug consoles is limited to 120Gb
I'd really like to be able to use 128MB with the Stellar System... Id recommend steering clear of buying until this 'release feature's has been actually released.
Looks like I'll be digging out my OG Xbox for some modern modding (ha). Only thing is I do wish there was a more streamlined method to gain WiFi capabilities using Project Stellar. Having to FTP through a hardwired connection in order to transfer data just feels so archaic....
A shame there are so many listed features that are not implemented yet. I just installed Cerbios on my Xbox and am converting my game collection to a compressed ISO library
OG modding back in the day was insane. I remember managing to run emulators a full apeed or occasionally bricking it as a consequence of me learning to program ahha. Great times.
I love the original Xbox and i had once had a chip-modded one. Sadly i have no experience in modding and i don‘t know any shop for doing it here, so i have a „normal one“ today. My problem with it is i have a great input-lag, so most games are unplayable on my flatscreen, even in „Games“-mode. Do you know this mod or an other could fix this, or better, do you know an easier way?
Funny, all my 128MB games are working... not sure whats going on. 8GB was an overwhelming amount back in the day for OG Xbox... PS2 40GB & PSX 160/250GB. Agree to disagree, I guess. 😅 Does make the 20GB PS3 sound like a downgrade.
Bought an OG Xbox a few months back and recently installed Rocky5 softmod on it which is the currently the best and most updated softmod for OG Xbox. I’d highly recommend people for go for that instead of buying these expensive modchips when you can find better options for free.
This is high on my list :) 18:12 i realy mis the Blades dashboard. It was a 1:1 of the Xbox 360 and looked stunning at the time. Good luck finding that one these days :(
Im buying every single item you featured in this video, John! I am also getting the HD mod as well. I had a modded XB back in the day that I could rip games to my HD back in the day when the XB was still popular. I am not going to uograde the ram though. If it cant optimize for the upgraded ram, I am not going to waste my time. I can easily get back to my MB to install more ram later when the system is upd Dated to itilize it.
It currently only supports HDD rips, but once disc image support is enabled it'll support cso (compressed iso) It's not enabled yet because MakeMHZ is only enabling features a handful at a time so that bugs and issues can be more easily tracked down and fixed, but I think either the next release or the release after is expected to have cso support, but don't quote me on that.
Don't want to solder anything. I think there is a ram upgrade and a cpu upgrade as well. Why not bring the server up again. That was good times. My Xbox back in 2003 didn't make any noise. Xbox live was pretty awesome. Xbox 360 brought the dashboard so you can voice chat. Bring emulation. Make it just as good. So i don't have to do any of this.
My comment seems to have disappeared so posting again without the link? Maybe that's why it was deleted? FYI you could test the cpu upgrade option by overclocking with the GXTX XboxOverclock tool and get up to 1ghz on the cpu if you lower the ram multiplier with hidden keys in the app, iirc it's the x and b key.
Talk about decision paralysis. There are enough modern games to play that I can’t seem to get to. If I now had all my old XBOX games at the touch of a button I would never know what to play
Glad I wasn't the only one having trouble with this mod. I sent my Xbox to some people who have done great work for me in the past, but for some reason, the Xbox now freezes up sometimes when I start it up. But when I can get it working, it's a beauty.
There is a very strong contingent of people who hate this mod chip. I don't know enough about this scene, I don't know why? Does anyone know? For me, I've never been interested, but this makes me very interested in doing this to my Xbox.
ModzvilleUSA just did a video covering it. TDLR, alot of the features are not even out/coming soon etc, so you are already buying in on blind faith. Other features like support for the newest XISO compression methods are not supported at this time. Cheaper chips like Aladdin XBlast & Cerbios will do most of what anyone thats going into the current Xbox modding scene wants out of a mod. Also there was some nasty twitter drama I'm not going to go into.
I bought an Xbox at good well that a ton of pre installed games like all the GTAs, House of the Dead’s, Def Jam Fight for NY, Star Wars, and a whole lot more but it stoped working at like 2 months idk why?
That's really cool, I was into the OG Xbox back in the day as well. While it is cool, I looked it the library a while ago and found most games are available either on PC or current XB systems so I never really dove back into it. I found the same to be true with N64, albeit on various systems.
I need to install a larger hard drive in my classic Xbox, but alas, it's software modded, so I'd have to change the serial number of both the system and the drive, which is annoying. Right now it's at 120GB, which is certainly better than the 10GB drive it had at the start, but I'm sure I could do so much better than that.
Still have my soft modded system. But i remember i deleted xbmc auto log in. So it looks ugly when u turn it on. Wish i could ftp back into it but for whatever reason it won't let me. Idk totally forget all that knowledge. Hell i learned python coding doing this.😂

ModzvilleUSA just released a video on this kit yesterday showcasing the fact that most of the advertised features are currently not present, and some of them were said to be cut but still advertised. One of the features that currently does not work is 128mb RAM support, as performed in this video. Another is compressed games
False advertising
Yep, so far it’s been kind of a let down.
Awesome video 👍
That XBMC iteration looks very similar to the Aurora dashboard for 360, I guess they may have taken inspiration from that.
As for 128MB games, some of the Chihiro arcade games like Virtua Cop 3 run well without any additional work to be done. I don't know if it'll run with the Stellar board, but it does on my Xbox with an Xecuter 2 bios.
Just got my modded Stellar 1.6 Xbox back and I love it. Have the entire library on a 2tb hard drive and that HDMI output is 🤌
9:08 you're supposed to plug the blue end into the motherboard
I've been keeping the Project Stellar modchip in my drawer for several months already
Not willing to swap it out with my XeniumICE modchip until after Dustin confirms support for 128MB consoles
😎 Tech Wave 🌊
Would this also work on a bricked Xbox? Since it is a custom bios.
That is amazing i didn't even know they were upgrading the old retro XBOX.
I have a Xbox to PS2 adapter and solder a ESP32 with Blueretro to it. Now my Xbox have bluetooth. Best solution to use wireless controller on the Xbox.
Xbox doesn't already have wireless controllers? Like the kind that work over 2.4ghz?
@@dapperfan44Not the original at least, not by default. Which sucks because I have a hard time with wired controllers nowadays.
If I remember xbmc could use the extra ram back in the day I think it might need a patch for it to work
I'd really like to be able to use 128MB with the Stellar System...
Id recommend steering clear of buying until this 'release feature's has been actually released.
Is there trim support for the SSD?
Whats the game being shown in the Final Thoughts between Tony Hawk and Halo 2?
Can you do a review of insignia for og Xbox. I’m interested and hope to get more interest in playing Xbox games online again.
Looks like I'll be digging out my OG Xbox for some modern modding (ha). Only thing is I do wish there was a more streamlined method to gain WiFi capabilities using Project Stellar. Having to FTP through a hardwired connection in order to transfer data just feels so archaic....
Spawn, how much time do you get to enjoy your legacy consoles compared to the current gen?
can you play the games that require double the ram like crazy taxi 3 and Virtua Cop 3?
Man this dude is still using that OG radio shack solder
A shame there are so many listed features that are not implemented yet. I just installed Cerbios on my Xbox and am converting my game collection to a compressed ISO library
I just want them to unlock the native controller option. But they have yet to do that sadly.
What temp do you use when you solder those chips on? Do you Pre Tin the pads ?
OG modding back in the day was insane. I remember managing to run emulators a full apeed or occasionally bricking it as a consequence of me learning to program ahha. Great times.
1:55 why does that look like Maximilian Dood?
Does make the 20GB PS3 sound like a downgrade.
Love my original Xbox!
Bought an OG Xbox a few months back and recently installed Rocky5 softmod on it which is the currently the best and most updated softmod for OG Xbox. I’d highly recommend people for go for that instead of buying these expensive modchips when you can find better options for free.
My experience - softmodding was very inexpensive but not free.
I think you should do the CPU upgrade.
I very much want to do this particular mod! Been keeping an eye on the Stellar stuff. 😊
You said that there is a Patch to Uncensor TThe Punisher. Can you tell me where to get it. I would love to play it uncensored.
This is high on my list :)
18:12 i realy mis the Blades dashboard. It was a 1:1 of the Xbox 360 and looked stunning at the time. Good luck finding that one these days :(
Nice video
Do a little research about the person who created this modchip and you'll never want to support them.
I can easily get back to my MB to install more ram later when the system is upd
Dated to itilize it.
I would do a whole bunch of mods for the 360, starting with a larger hard drive and better power supply 😊
If John ever get to BGA rework, I would also like to see a Frankenstein PS3.
Can you tell me the file format the games are used in the Project Stellar mod? xiso.iso or .iso ?
Thank you!!
It currently only supports HDD rips, but once disc image support is enabled it'll support cso (compressed iso)
It's not enabled yet because MakeMHZ is only enabling features a handful at a time so that bugs and issues can be more easily tracked down and fixed, but I think either the next release or the release after is expected to have cso support, but don't quote me on that.
I have steam deck, mostly ok. Don’t like that the offline mode is not working properly. Don’t think I will get the Asus ally
So i don't have to do any of this.
why did you solder that ram but not use flux just because your solder has it in it it helps it flow a lot better to put extra on what you are doing.
Can u install this is a Pentium 3 class pc? Seems like that might be easier at this point
I would Love to get my OG XBOX modded like that
Glad I wasn't the only one having trouble with this mod. I sent my Xbox to some people who have done great work for me in the past, but for some reason, the Xbox now freezes up sometimes when I start it up. But when I can get it working, it's a beauty.
JET SET RADIOOOOOOOO!
Is it possible to use this to convert disc games to ISO?
What does it do?
Does anyone have an amazon link to the Extra Ram chips he installed?
I'm not sure what this chip is getting me that I don't already have with my Cerbios flashed system - 8TB HDD and 128MB RAM.
I bought an Xbox at good well that a ton of pre installed games like all the GTAs, House of the Dead’s, Def Jam Fight for NY, Star Wars, and a whole lot more but it stoped working at like 2 months idk why?
I just ordered an original Xbox off eBay and I noticed it was manufactured in mid-2005. I'm wondering if that means it's a 1.6 model?
Most likely
Hell yeah ultimate xbox
That's really cool, I was into the OG Xbox back in the day as well. While it is cool, I looked it the library a while ago and found most games are available either on PC or current XB systems so I never really dove back into it. I found the same to be true with N64, albeit on various systems.
I need to install a larger hard drive in my classic Xbox, but alas, it's software modded, so I'd have to change the serial number of both the system and the drive, which is annoying. Right now it's at 120GB, which is certainly better than the 10GB drive it had at the start, but I'm sure I could do so much better than that.
My guy maxmillan dood with the cameo appearance in this video
still have my og xbox modded with a hd full of games
YES PLEASE!!!! I want to see a CPU mod!!!!
Plus replacing the hard drive with the SSD will make the Xbox a lot lighter.
Still have my soft modded system. But i remember i deleted xbmc auto log in. So it looks ugly when u turn it on. Wish i could ftp back into it but for whatever reason it won't let me. Idk totally forget all that knowledge. Hell i learned python coding doing this.😂
Borvwo!
Nice job;)
Hey SW, I want to see more gameplay. You can't show SSX tricky boxart and not play it.
where can I find that half life 2 patch
