    Bridgend was my town! left in 94 for the southwest and just bought our third motorhome and intend to live full time vanlife in it as we are now retired. Neat job. When you get to Portugal go up top a couple of times to check the sealant is holding firm in the high direct heat though.
    Will be interesting to see if this helps in a hot climate.

    Great video! We also fitted a Maxxfan deluxe. We had to take the power from the fuse box as it drew too much current from a light fitting, also you may need to fit a regulator to keep it at a steady 12volts. We did with ours and its been in for 5yearswith no issues. X

    I think you will find that the Maxfan is on of the best accessories you will ever fit. I do agree with a previous post about the current draw though. We wired ours direct to a dedicated fuse in the hab fuse box. Be careful wiring them via a light. We enjoy your videos and have been following you since Greece, keep up the good work.

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  3 месяца назад +1

      It’s fab isn’t it 🙂❤️ the fan takes 4 amps max , the fuse on the lights is 15 amps , all the lights are fortunately led , apart from the feed light , which is redundant , so the draw won’t exceed the fuse or wire capacity , we will swap the fluorescent one for led at some point 🙂 so glad to hear you’ve been on board with us for so long 🙂💖 safe travels ahead !

    We've just watched your latest vlog with interest and think that the Maxxfan could solve a real issue in the van when it gets warm. It would be good to know if they produce a smaller fan around 20cm x 20cm that would fit the bathroom. You spoke about air cooling. When we placed the order for our van in October 2022 we bought a "Totalcool" unit at the NEC. It was on offer and certainly not the £299.00 that they are currently retailing at. Have to say it's very effective. Good to see Wilf settling in! He really has fallen on his paws❤! Take care guys. Looking forward to catching up with you all at Vanlove Fest in July. Sid and Nicola.

We are having a max air fan fitted on 12th July.i could fit it myself,it's just the wiring I'm no good at.dont trust myself.if you are thinking of buying a cool air unit that you put water in or ice cubes don't waste your money,we bought one years ago called a trans cool and they don't work very well.might just as well put a normal fan on.we invested in an Eco Flow Wave 2.not cheap but works brilliant.you can run them off your battery bank aswell.a little bulky but we fit ours between the cab seats.No problem,we got ours running as we speak,we're in Andalusia and it's hot! Thanks for the vlog guys.

    To Remove the bathroom Heki Roof Light you need a T10 torx bit for 4 screws it will then come out leaving the surround in roof hole. Separate Vent Light into two pieces with handles using a T25 torx bit removing 4 screws. Clean carefully as this is acrylic use lots of water and do not scrub. A lot of dust will be between the two halves.

    Hi guys great vlog, cheers. We have a Fiamma max air in our MH and although really powerful, it’s noisy 😢 So couldn’t imagine sleeping underneath it. I might see if the new ones are quieter and install one 👍 Also Paul, can I ask, are your solar panels matched in wattage and wired into the same controller? I’ve recently installed a 150w but read that it can’t be wired with the 100w original because it will down rate the new😮

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  2 месяца назад +1

      Good morning Paul ! Ours is really quiet , but of course at full speed creates a wind noise, we intend to use one for extracting and one for pulling in, set around 20 to 30 percent to create an air flow , we sleep under our maxx fan with no probs 🙂 ref the solar , I did a lot of reading, and it agrees with what you mentioned, but… I had a 120 watt panel with the van when bought, I had no room for another 120 watt, so I got a renogy 100 watt with 20 percent efficiency , as an ‘efficient’ panel it has a greater output, and because the panel on the roof is older , it’s output is degraded, I do have room for one more panel so I will probably do that , but to be honest I wouldn’t worry too much about balancing them if you don’t have room, any addition is a good one , but of course , if you can, do so, it’s better .. also consider the max input of your solar controller 🙂 and I’ve gone the simple route and wired my panels in parallel , you can go series, or mix and match, hope that helps, a lot more info online, but as mentioned, hope my experience is of use 🙂👌

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  3 месяца назад +1

      Good morning Simon ! The standard motorhome fans are usually sky lights , which have a manual open / close and that’s it, the fans we fitted are electric powered and can either push or pull air , so with two fans we have one pushing out hot air, one pulling in cooler , so we have a forced flow of cool air , they can be temp controlled , close automatically when it rains and have tow large internal fans that give quite some airflow 🙂 we use safeguard for our vehicle insurance, just over £400 for the year , which covers us for breakdown too , and for travel insurance we normally use the post office , for which we are in the process of renewing soon , but prices have risen , so we shall shop around , it’s coming in at over £100 each 👍🙂 hope that helps

      Hi all I have 2 of these on my self build camper van. Setting the sleeping fan to out and the opposite to in works a treat. Hardly any condensation on windows at all. 30% in 20% out. Only thing that I don’t like is the blind isn’t really a black out. Any remote will work both fans so you don’t have to mount 2 remotes in the van. I love the fact that coach built vans are jumping on self build products. Happy travels everyone

    How are you finding the cheaper fan compared to the MaxxAir Fan? I fitted a MaxxAir in my last camper and it was brilliant, but the rear overhang on the cover stops me fitting it to replace the basic vent in my current Motorhome as not enough room at the back :(

      Good morning ! It’s great , with the added bonus of a rain sensor, it doesn’t have temp control , but really makes a difference running two , I’d be happy with 2 of these to be honest 👌❤️ perhaps marginally a little louder but no less powerful .. I’d recommend getting one 👍

    Hi, How are you getting on with the fans, are they noisy when driving with wind noise? I'd like one of the cheaper ones but wondered if its any good? Keep up the good work😉

      Hi Jeremy ! Impressed so far , no noticeable wind noise , seems really good , just no temp control , but does have a rain sensor .. 🙂

    Just watched your video on this install, what worries me is, have you worked out the current draw of that fan as you have connected it to the lighting circuit which doesn't draw that much currant.
    So is the original lighting circuit wiring able to handle the current draw.

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Paul ! Great question, yes the fan at full tilt is a 4 amp draw , the lighting circuit is fused at 15 amps, we have leds throughout , apart from the one light I’ve tapped in to, which we will change to led ( although we don’t use it ) the maxx fan is really economic on its power consumption,the lights we have range from 300 to 420 ma, so if we turned on all the lights and the fan, it wouldn’t be an issue as it’s well within the parameters, the second fan is wired directly in to the 12v circuit .
      The fan also has an inline fuse , so we have covered all eventualities 🙂👌👍 thanks for watching and asking a great question !

      Well done nice you checked everything out as you don't want to overload you wiring.
      And I must admit I'm thinking of fitting one of them fans me self.

      @Paul-pb3vq thanks Paul , it’s quite an easy job , just taking your time is key , of course I polished the roof whilst up there which made it longer 😂 but we’ve had comments where dealers have quoted around £1000 to supply and fit , the fan was £260 on marketplace ( brand new ) and go for 300 to 350 new , so happy with my saving 🙂

    Heard you mention Portugal. We had a month there in Sept, so many lovely places.. but may I suggest if your in the area... the hot pools in Chaves, the fantastic views from Castelo de Monsaraz , and the beach at Zambujeira do Mar. There are many many more... but I'm sure you'll find them yourselves.. safe travels

    Hi , I have a Dethleff Globebus I1 2010, its like seeing my van being worked on !!, I have had similar dilemma , have looked at upgrading to a newer van. But to spend at least £40k and not really getting much more. So seeing you improve has me on a mission !

    Adding a fan to a lighting circuit is going to add a substantial extra load.
    You need to be confident the lighting wiring can carry the fan load or it could melt.
    Also might want to update the fuse to the correct load for the fan or it could keep blowing.
    You could swap out the fluorescent tube for an LED version as well.
    The ice cooler fans will effectively blow moist air around your van, not something I'd want in my van but in a hot country it might not be an issue

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Andrew , thanks so much for the advice, really appreciated, the fuse on the lights is 15 amps, and fortunately every light in the van is LED , apart from the one I’ve taken the power from, the fan at max speed draws 4 amps, and we never use the fluorescent tube, but and upgrade to led is a great suggestion , as the current draw is quite a difference , ref the ice cooler fans, it’s something we will look into prior to our trip to Portugal 🙂 appreciate the advice, really helpful 🙂❤️
